4 minutes is minimum alignment time, in "Vipers in the Storm" I read that that the F-16 jockeys usually waited 16minutes (12? not sure, but quite a while, but their step time is usally 30minutes before engine start, so...) for alignment, but may shorten this down to 8minutes, eventough the system is ready after 4 minutes too. They went to the 2nd Gulf War (1991) with updated avionics and already had GPS updates, their procedure said minimum 8 minutes anyway. But they only dropped on coordinates, so this might be more important, than in a CAS mission. Would be intersting to know, what influence the alginement time has in DCS beyond the 4 minutes. Anybody knows?

What is your preferred combat helicopter and why??
SNAFU replied to - Piloto da Morte -'s topic in Military and Aviation
Would be intersting to get hands on the study, which outlines a 2 seat attack helicopter is more effective than than 2 single seat attack helicopters. I guess such a study was carried out, just like "how many bullets does the average soldier fire, before he is killed, so why give him more?"... Considering that it takes only a few month to assembly a Ka-50 but at least 18 years to "assembly" a pilot, it might be of advantage to have twice as much potential attack helicopters available, if they are single seaters. At least in a major conflict. -
I have the same issue. If you use the search funtion of the forum, you may find some topics concerning this bug. Different solutions were found, most common was deinstallation and reinstallation of all. Will try this also, if I find some time.

Thanks Nameless1 ;) Already ordered that one, sounds interesting. I was always looking for a book from a former Hind Pilot in Afghanistan, maybe you know one?

Nah, someone should hack and shut down Facebook and the ED Forum, then available working time doubles... ;)

That`s why I miss the <51th> server in DCS:World. Looking forward for FC3 and hoping your server will be available to DCS players again, can´t find a better public online-DCS experience. :joystick: PS: I experienced the same behavior in other communities building Server-Maps/Missions for IL2. Most prefered maps, where usually the most unrealistic or easiest ones, in which you do not have any kind of challange. Guess that`s human being. ;)

I vote for DCS:Chopper, something like this or this or But no need for another K-50
-
This would be my wishlist for DCS Rotary: MH-53 UH-60 Uh-1 Mi-24

Well, methinks you worry about something else if you break the sound barrier in an A-10C, Ka-50 or P-51. :joystick:

Try the Devel`s Cross Campaing. There you have to loiter the home plate and kill the time, before you set off to WP 1.

Well, I don´t know if that is fiction in the movie or based on a real happening, but it is possible. The light destroyers were not made of more than a thin tin can steel and 0.5cal APs should penetrate the hull easily. If you hit a boiler, which is under full pressure and this boiler ruptures, the expending steam should tear the vessel apart. As far as I know german planes over the Channel dived from the top and aimed for the funnel with their guns knowing that somewhere near the funnel the boilers are located. Well, sometimes they were successful.

Thank you. I am looking forward to test your mission. :pilotfly: I am still learning the A-10C, so excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean with "MGRS"?
-
Ok, so it is in the decision of the pilot and there is no mandatory rule, he has to jettison. I read the book "Strike Eagle: Flying the F-15E in the Gulf war" and from the same author the one about the A-10As and sure a man fired upon will not always act as he is supposed to. Just wondered what the standard training procedure is. I understand there is no standard procedure and the pilot has the freedom of choice. In the end he might be blamed for either one. ;)
-
Given your strategy failed for whatever reason and a SAM is launched at you. Are real A-10C pilots adviced to jettison their load in that case, provided the mission is not Hollywood? PS: Ok, adviced is the wrong word, is it standard procedure to emergency jettison the load in such a case? A fully loaded A-10C has reduces chances for evasion methinks.

Probiers mal mit "forward long", mit kurz schaltest nur auf Point tracking, mit lange machst du den Punkt zum SPI. Du bekommst nur einen Release Vektor wenn du das Ziel zum SPI machst, vielleicht fehlt dir der.

Well, I will NOT pay for FC3, but as long as it has the level of DCS as we know it, I will buy it. But maybe I`ll FC3 anyway, just to support ED, who knows.

Its been a whils since I was spending my time with mission building (BS 1.0) but I remember an option besides the waypoint settings, in which you could define the valid targets. Helicopter were on of the targets you could set in these options.

That looks promising and a realistic scenario for immersion. Good we do not have Spangdahlem in the DCS world, flying all the way would be a little too realistic, even for my tast... ;) I am just about to get into the A-10C and still struggeling with the basics. Anyhow, I am looking for more missions of this type, so thank you in advance.

I almost said "good to read", didn´t play DCS for a long time now, but started getting to know the A-10C in the recent days. I was really surprised by the mulitplayer performance, or not existing performance. Barely a puplic server in central europe online, and if I want to fly with a friend, it is impossible due to warping around, ping outs, CTDs and hung games. First thought that my system would cause this all, but my friend faced similar issues and now I read here, that more are epxeriencing this? I remember far better online experience with DCS.

Currently CloD is great for low-alt-airquake-furballs, sightseeing and it is really fun to blow up trains and ships - if you have the suitable hardware (with 4GB RAM and 1GB VRAM you will have to tune down a lot). It is also great if you have profound C# knowledge, but unfortunatly that is all for now. I didn´t even think about launching the sim for about 4 months now but logged about 400hrs in steam, but I spent 98% of this in the FullMissionBuilder. Finally I decided the sim is not in the steady state yet to built and trust on - similar like DCS - why built missions if they will not work anymore after the next patch? Anyhow, a memory leak is limiting every online play to one sortie, then restart game, before your RAM reaches a certain limit and has no depth, no context to history (mulit-engine-planes accelerating the memory leak and large AI formations or groups causing a general lag of all units). So online play in CloD is currently easy to summarize in something like "look how good I can shoot you up, while you warm up your engine" and generally "my *** is longer than yours". The dev. are working on a general overhaul of the graphic engine and a beta-patch is overdue for "two weeks - be sure". Well, besides CloD is available for 12€ in some online shops and is worth this - at least to support the poor guys in Moscow, hiding from the mob. ;) I suggest to wait and check the 1C forum a week after the next patch is realesed and listen to the general complains. If the beta patch fixes the memory leak you can have at least the online-gangbang-fun, if not, well abandom all hope for "Battle of Moscow". For the while RoF is for free and great in single-player, if you do not find enough multi-player action. (If you are 6-8 hrs ahead of the CET, I can´t tell, thats when I am still hanging around in my office.)

Uh-1? It is certainly a legend and would fit into almost all theaters or not? Uh well, Korea maybe not...

I assume you are in South Africa and therefore Central Euorpean Time Zone? Few people online in RoF is very relative. RoF has a very good offline-gameplay therefore more player are assumed to do their flying offline, but in the evening you always have a several populated servers - from the standard airquake around the lake to coop servers. The good compromise is the "Syndicate" server, which has balanced missions, descent players and is quite popular. I am alos trying to get back into online-flying and RoF is the only real choice I see. DCS seems to be limited to 2 puplic servers with a few players on and on which I got teamkilled in 2 out 3 sorties. So I gave it up. BS1 and FC2 could be worth a try, I always liked the 51th server, but I lost my settings and my spare time is very limited - so I prefer to get my flying fix with RoF. ;) Can´t play IL2 1946 anymore due to CloD syndrom...

Jupp. Du verbindest mit einem Server, stellst selber einen Server oder errichtest ein LAN und spielst dort Missionen mit Host + Client. Einfach mal ausprobieren. ;)

Yes, I would generally rather think into the direction of light-weight and cheap turbo-prop CAS planes like the AT-6B. I would guess they could do the current job of the A-10C sufficiently well and how many Tucanos (?) do you get for the price of one A-10C? The days of the mach 2 jet-fleets are gone or fading imho.
