AIM-120 tracking a secondary target
Csgo GE oh yeah replied to Hornet_Driver's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
No. It will still keep TWS'ing it's way to the target you shot the missile at. -
Heatblur's AIM 7 is an active missile ? I had no idea.

Well, after much testing and after the placebo effect wore off, i have to conclude that it doesn't matter what you throw at DCS, it will always run like sh*t. As far as 3090 vs 3080 (with 8700K @ 5 ghz, and 32 GB of RAM) , the only difference is that you shave 1 or 2 milliseconds of your frametime in VR. But , that doesn't translate at all to a 'performance increase', because it's still a stuttering heap of misery. It's a sad state of affairs.

AIM-54 Changes / new API fixes are live in today's patch
Csgo GE oh yeah replied to IronMike's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It should give an RWR warning at some point , also when fired by a rio. But, it doesn't. -

phoenix fired by a RIO in TWS does not give any RWR warning. -

PD-STT apparently isn't giving any warnings . And , phoenixes shot in TWS by a rio also won't give any warnings until impact if supported all the way, missile is behaving as a SARH. -

So am i reading this correct ? Phoenix still has 'magic ins' ? Also what's the range (in degrees) of it's onboard radar once it goes active ? Watching some tacviews and it appears to be 180 degrees in all directions. That's not right is it ? -
yeah i notice light flickering when i do that unfortunately

Well like i suspected, doesn't make a difference. None of it really ... 3440x1440 vs 1920x1080 , no difference really. 2x Msaa vs 4x Msaa , again no difference really. And you know what the weirdest thing is ? The only instance when it touches 60 fps, is at the end of the F3 flyby view, with a plane that is nothing more than a dot, and nothing but blue sky around it :D So, the blue sky actually seems much more taxing than the dense forest ? In 2d that is. In VR this is not the case, there it's just the other way around. Probably something weird with the cpu going on when flying straight up ? Altough i can't imagine what, when there's no A.I , only me flying in empty caucasus. What on earth is going on in this engine . Video's are still being encoded by youtube so quality will get better so you can actually read the FPS hopefully. 1080P, 4x msaa : 3440x1440 , 4x msaa

On, most definately probably i think . It seems to 'lock' fps at 45 most of the time

More VRAM helps a lot with DCS VR performance
Csgo GE oh yeah replied to RealDCSpilot's topic in Virtual Reality
Just a short test i did right after installing it. Frametimes are a bit better. Going from 20 to 18 , or from 18 to 15 ... In that range. While i was flying though in noticed that 'used' (or allocated) Vram was 19 GB . I'm not kidding you . I just refuse to believe that is what DCS is actually using. BUT , let's assume it's half. Sure i play at ridiculous settings (300% supersampling with HP Reverb) , but that's getting really close to 10 GB. So in very short (30 minutes of testing) , it's a LITTLE smoother. And i'm not even sure if that's placebo or not. Normal FPS is a little higher, but the low dips seem equally low as with the 3080. I also did some multiplayer. Pressing F10 did not take as long. (it was quite fast actually, almost instant) . Pressing F2 to see other allied aircraft was faster. Altough, after pressing F2 some more, there was still a 'hickup'. Frametime in multiplayer was also a bit lower though. But, there were only 21 people on the server. I should test again with 40 people to see if that has a negatvie effect. (i'm 99% sure it will :( ) Overall the game felt a little smoother, but honestly if you're contemplating between a 3080 and 3090 for DCS, unless you're swimming in money, i would advise against it. Even though i'd really like to believe it makes a bigger difference. This card is quiet though, and it looks REALLY sweet. (gigabite "vision") . I still might keep it because lots of people want to buy the 3080 from me. -
Resolution and supersampling do matter, but not as much as you think (maybe). I play at 300% supersampling (also with reverb) with a 3080. I think you can easily crank up your supersampling , because right now at 100% your CPU is most likely the bottleneck So if you're aiming for 90 fps, i'm pretty sure you can forget all about that. But at least you can crank up the visuals, and still be at 45 fps . And you should definitely overclock the living crap out of that 8700k if you haven't already.

Since it turns out to be quite impossible to get some usable information about the amount of Vram and it's relation to DCS performance , i guess i must test myself. I already have a 3080, tomorrow i will also have a 3090 and will see (friday) if it's actually worth buying a 3090 over a 3080 for DCS. If any of you have any specific in game scenario's you would like to be 'tested' please post here. I'm not going to spend days testing, and i'm not some professional test guy so if you have requests please keep it really simple and low effort.

Since ED can't answer any questions about Vram needed for this game So upcoming weekend, i am going to test it myself , with a 3080, and a 3090. If any of you have specific scenario's they'd like to compare (3080 vs 3090) just post it in this thread. -
sigh ... now the F14A shows up on RWR as "U" . Same as it's missiles (well at least the missile is showing up AT ALL , finally) , and same as some ground radars. Great. Anyone have any idea when this will be fixed ?
