rofl September last year : Tweaked AIM-54 PN coefficients for smoother transitions and a slightly better effect at long range (to try and counter the disadvantages of the current terminal guidance compromise).

I've been thinking about going back to 2d myself, because of the better graphics. But, i think i'd really miss simple stuff like moving your head to the side to look down 'out the window' so to speak. It's just not the same in 2d.

I honestly don't think so. 1) At first aim54 really did have a very high chaff-eating number. 2) Then HB lowered it drastically, it was even better than the aim120 3) Then ED made this recent change to the aim120 4) I don't think HB did the same for their aim54. But, i haven't been keeping up with all the changes that much, i could be wrong/incomplete

I feel like something has improved though . I don't have to be super slow and careful anymore when moving bugged targets around in my radar beam. I can now bug a target and quite aggressively put it on the gimbal limit and it keeps the bug. It used to always drop the lock if i went half upside down and to the right or left, but no more. It's like they sprayed some WD40 in the gimbal motor or something.

Should have made it 4k though

It's becoming a bit of an exploit indeed. The notch seems pretty huge , and combined with the enormous attraction for chaff you can even quite reliably spoof missiles fired at you from only a few miles while maintaining lock with your aircraft the whole time. Vs the F14 you're better off notching the planes radar before it goes active , but vs any amraam carrying aircraft it really doesn't matter. Sloppy notch at any point (even 0.1 seconds before impact is spoofed. It's fun if you like every fight to be a dogfight with aim9's, but if you're an energy fighter who relies on having the better firing parameters/more energy , then it gets old pretty fast. But i don't want to b*tch about amraams, i feel much worse for everyone flying a russian aircraft because those missiles are beyond pathetic.

Switch Dialog not working

oh well that's annoying . Ok thx One thing though, i get the awacs calls even when my radio is off . The only thing that helps is to turn the volume all the way down. Is that a server setting or something ? edit* nvm , i changed the main frequency so i don't hear the awacs AT ALL anymore. It's the only way so that i don't go insane while flying. -
I've tried rebinding the command, in 'general > communication' AND 'F16 > communication' , i just can't get it to work. It's extremely annoying because that command is used to filter out awacs calls , so right now i'm receiving ALL calls from all players. Am i doing something wrong ? I want to only receive awacs calls that are meant for me. How do i do this in F16 ? (it works without problem in FC3 planes)
-
So, i seem to remember in the F15 you could press Shift + \ so the awacs would only call out specific info related to yourself. This does not work in the F16 , or i'm doing something wrong. Normally i'd just turn off the radio, but i've given SRS another try and the Awacs and players seem to be on the same channel. In short : How do i mute the Awacs without turning off my radio ?

So is ! It is basically an amraam (latest model of course) but two times faster and with two times more range, and with much better chaff resistance. The military only ditched it because it was actually TOO GOOD. They deemed it was too unfair to the enemy. I'm finally beginning to understand.

^ It's pretty amazing how a well supported post that probably took quite some time to type up, is instantly called a 'wall of text' simply because it doesn't fit your: "Aim54 is exactly as Aim120 but with 2x range and 2x speed" narrative. Bonercat, it seems that you really only want the AIm54 to be some sort of extremely advanced version of the aim120 . You really want it to be a 'magic silver bullet', and you will not stop until it is. (in DCS) The thing is literally a flying fuel-bag. Same size, same thickness and shape for god's sake. Look at it, it's a scud missile If it was so 'advanced' and 'overkill' they would have kept it, and not switched to the "crappier" aim120. https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-35_Lightning_II

Well from the two scenario's, i know which one i think is more likely : 1) Phoenix was aim120 on steroids, better in every way, so the US military ditched it because it was actually TOO good. Better than they needed ... OR : 2) Phoenix was a huge portable scud missile only suited for hitting huge and slow bombers and became obsolete because of the lack of huge slow bombers carpet bombing or nuking cities.
