And i also don't buy this: "Yeah the aim54 was a 120 on steroids, better in every way, but then they discontinued it because it's awesomeness was overkill so they settled for the 120". @northstar , why you left out the part where i said i destroyed him ? How is that 'ignoring' ? And a cruise missile doesn't go defensive.

Oh dear, the aim9 has been in use for a very long time as well. Better make the scud-54 also just as manouverable as the aim 9 . But of course keep the longe range and speed capabilities . I mean, the 54 only weighs 3x more than the 120 and is only 3x as bulky. So there is no reason it should not behave exactly as the 120, but with 2x more range and 2x more speed. That is what i'm sensing from the post above. Yesterday i actually got hit by a 54. I got exactly 1.5 beeps from my RWR. ... beep be- ... dead. I got them as well, but that's only because i'm the king of BVR . :flips table:

Aren't the 120 and 54 different missiles ? Why would the 54 , which should be a lot older and crappier, be exactly as efficient as the 120 ? It already has 2x the speed and 2x the range . Just asking, what makes you think guiding should be identical ?

Tacview, the ACMI for DCS World – Official Thread
Csgo GE oh yeah replied to Vyrtuoz's topic in DCS Modding
I was getting error messages indeed. However it seems to have resolved itself. I think it was a server-export-compression-something setting, because the newer tacfiles are working without problem. -
Yeah i noticed it does give a slight 'bloom' effect in VR . It's ok i guess, just wondering because depending on the lighting outside it can look either pretty good, or really flat. It's not terribly important though, i was just curious

Ok then, WHICH aircraft should I Concentrate on?
Csgo GE oh yeah replied to Cowboy10uk's topic in DCS 2.9
Hornet of course, seems like a no brainer. Lots of A-G options, and pretty good at A-A as well. Very complete -
The HUDS have looked the same since flaming cliffs , and with that i mean the hud lighting (the green) Normally in HUDS you get sort of a 3d effect. (i've seen it in cars and such) . In DCS it looks bad, is this effect so hard to duplicate maybe ? (video below has timestamp, just click it it's not only about kangaroos)

No i don't expect a range nerf. I only stated that because of the range difference i feel that the phoenix doesn't fit in one small, (% wise) aspect of DCS, which is pvp multiplayer. So again, i do not expect the range to be nerfed. And i also don't think you guys are introducing bugs on purpose . But i won't lie i was very suspicious of the F14 when it first launched and i read that missile thread . At the very least i thought the idea HB had was "Better make sure it's at least not too weak" . Kind of staying on the safe side , for F14 module owners that is. I mean who wants to put out a module with long sticks that gets pummeled by a mig 21 too easily. Anyway, I just hope that the most annoying bugs are behind us.

Sadly i find the contrary to be true. Even the slightest, most carefully phrased concern about a bug being a problem in MP is in my experience instantly met with very vocal resistance from F14 players. Even the through mountain flying, or no active warning phoenix missiles were met with "but jester isn't perfect" excuses on various discords and forums. But It's a very common issue in all games, DCS is no different in that regard. Every once in a while some new weapon/vehicle whatever is introduced as an add-on to generate sales, and it's always broken at first , and i always feel like ´the sniper guy´ in this ancient video. @IronMike With what i said above, i hope you understand that to me some things looked very convenient so to speak when the F14 was released. "Make module 2x range 2x speed missiles + OP bugs = sales" kind of thing. On the other hand people are also buying all kinds of modules like the "YAK 52" so who knows maybe i'm paranoid from playing all sort of other games. Generally speaking DCS is not really a multiplayer game yet , i sometimes forget that. The title of this thread was not very tactful indeed . I wonder how the Eurofighter is going to affect MP. I'm already triggered quaking . Ree.

I honestly don't think you read my post at all, but just came here to hurl insults and be butthurt. You come here and go about how the phoenix isn't perfect , completely ignoring my previous post where i said : ""But that is what most F14 players do unfortunately. I literally see them take off, get to altidude, spam from safe distance and RTB. This doesn't do a WHOLE lot for them most of the time, but it does disrupt the good fights other people are having. Then about the 'higher reach'. Yes, they are meant for more reach (vs bombers as far as i've read but that's besides the point), and because of this reach discrepancy, it is MY OPINION that it doesn't fit in multiplayer very well. Why are you so salted about that ? You may not agree , fine but you could be a bit less bitchy about it couldn't you ? About the bugs you seem to be like "oh well it's just bugs" , but in my opinion all these bugs were quite serious and very detrimental to online gameplay. If you don't agree, again that's fine but there really is no need for the insults. Your tone is extremely unpleasant. Maybe that's why some people (they are around, trust me) might think there's no room for a differing opinion about bringing a 2x range + 2x speed missile into multiplayer complete with game breaking bugs. You should try to not get so upset when people don't exactly agree with you.

Take 3 tanks, center is used to take off and climb then dump , other 2 are used to gain some speed at 35k :d . Then when you are up high and fast dump the other 2

The range and speed difference of the phoenix would (to me) feel like i was using an exploit or something. I (personally) do not want to take the aim54 into PVP because of the above. All missiles in DCS have their imperfections, but a 'non smooth' trajectory or the fact that you have to guide it until active (seems normal for aim120 as well?) do not compensate for those two huge factors (2x range and 2x speed) And why would i want an 'i win' missile for pvp ? Not everybody is like that. When i'm flying pvp i want to test my sense of space/energy, timing ,and wits against another person. I do not want to be lobbing missiles from complete safety and hope wait untill one hits and RTB. But that is what most F14 players do unfortunately. I literally see them take off, get to altidude, spam from safe distance and RTB. This doesn't do a WHOLE lot for them most of the time, but it does disrupt the good fights other people are having. So the phoenix missile, in my opionion doesn't really fit into pvp very well in the first place. Then, if you add the past en current (quite terrible OP bugs) that just seem to keep happening , well i think that's a shame. And @IronMikeabout the balancing of the server admins. That's not completely fair. Servers want people in them. Banning a particular plane or missile could very well cost the server players. A very real example, was when the phoenix would give absolutely no active warning. The missile was rightfully banned on that server until the issue was resolved, but that change was reversed because a few regulars F14 peeps (it's not a very busy server lately) started complaining . Their reasoning literally was "if you see 14 nails you should run anyway muhahahah" . I can only roll my eyes at such comments but from that point we had 60nm phoenixes in the air that never gave an active warning. If a server admin has to choose between a filled server with a not so good experience for everybody, versus a less populated server with a better experience they will most of the time choose the former. So you can't really put it all on server admins i guess. There's only a few people playing multiplayer DCS , and only a handfull of populated servers.

It's like nobody is actually reading, but instead automatically blurting out : "Tomcat is not i-win button!" :d Which is interesting because like that it sounds more like some of you are trying to convince yourselves instead of me, because i never said anything like the above I did say that the range difference is a problem in multiplayer. It makes for very stale fights where the F14's are just lobbing 60nm phoenixes from beyond range of all other aircraft, and all the other aircraft just steer clear of the F14 , and nobody gets anything done. But so be it, this isn't a multiplayer centered game . Not that i wouldn't very much like it if DCS would become bigger in multiplayer in the future, but i don't think it's going to happen. The game just doesn't lend itself for PvP multiplayer. Co-op though, sure. Anyway, what i did mention was the past of really serious bugs that always somehow seem to be in favor of the F14. (no track magic phoenix// phoenix going through mountains//phoenix chaff debacle//phoenix no active warning//jester calling out every enemy missile as soon as it comes off the rail//tank damage model) And what annoys me is that the f14 guys never see any problem with it, even when the phoenix never gave ANY active warning f14 guys were like "ah not a problem, as soon as you see 14 spike you should run away anyway" . So, with all the (in my opinion) pretty serious bugs for multiplayer in mind, when i read the first few topics describing yet another game breaking bug in favor of F14 was i was like 'ah man here we go again' . By then other threads had popped up where it became clear that the mirage also had the same thing. I already said i spoke to soon, this time.

Make the noob-54 "U" again in RWR please :D
Csgo GE oh yeah replied to Csgo GE oh yeah's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This thread is about people quickly changing slots to deny the shooter the kill . -
Cycling through TWS targets can be buggy . It'll sometimes only pick up tracks if you first manually bug it. Let's say 2 aircraft, same altitude, same distance , both being picked up by your radar. THere's a good chance that you can only cycle one of them for some reason. Untill you de-bug your first target , then bug the other target and debug again. It's a little hit and miss.

I do indeed not like the F14 at all. It's fine for single player but the range difference is kind of bad for multiplayer because it's hell to balance a mission around that range difference, or at the least it's difficult to make fun missions that doesn't end up in F14's just spamming from way out of reach every other aircraft . But, my hatred towards the F14 started with the missile 'scandal'. (that huge thread) Then it was the damage model (taking insane amounts of hits without getting any damage) (and it still takes way more damage then any other plane) Then the chaff resistance which was altered to be on par with aim 120 because god knows why , (but turned out even better because when reversed HB forgot to reverse theirs when ED did. Then the missile never gave an active warning in TWS for a while I also don't like that clown in the back auto-doing everything (auto chaff, auto flares, auto radar) And now this ... But, seeing as the mirage also has this and it's not only the F14, my bias (i guess) made me be to hasty this time. I really do hope that this gets fixed real soon.

Maybe you borked some files while overclocking and failing (lots of BSOD's)
-
Multiplayer makes your cpu have to work a lot harder. Is it overclocked by any chance ? Maybe your OC is not entirely stable ?
