First time I did a shot and trap with the wings folded was on the AO servers. I made a "hold my beer" call on their Teamspeak and I'm not sure anybody thought I was going to make it, but I did! :D

I had put in two different t-shirt orders... I received one of them. (Texas)

The AGC was essential from the moment they undocked the LEM to the moment they landed, and again from the time they took off to the time they docked. The landing, never mind the whole mission, would not have been possible without the AGC. Manual is a bit of a misnomer with regards to the LEM control philosophy, too. The LEM had no direct actuation of RCS. It was entirely FBW through the AGC. If the AGC went offline, they fell back to the AGS (abort guidance section, a backup computer). If neither was available, they floated in space until they were rescued or died. There was no manual control available. When Apollo 11 touched down, their final modes included rate based attitude, and commanded vertical speed. The same modes every other landing occurred in, even those without computer alarms. The only time there was a computer issue was during the Apollo 11 landing, and the FBW (including the DAP, digital autopilot) was functioning the whole time. Had it not been, an abort would have been mandatory to save the crew. The DSKY was blank for extended periods (updating it was a "low priority" job and was disregarded), and they couldn't keep an updated display up, but that was okay, Houston radioed up what they needed from the missing display. Fortunately, due to the functionality of the scheduler inside the executive (a primitive scheduler akin to an operating system on the AGC), the computer understood the priority of operating programs and was able to maintain state and execution operations in order to keep the crew alive and touch them down.

A letter from several Chinese DCS palyers - 19 August 2019
mkosmo replied to Eagle sur Pekin's topic in Chit-Chat
I know everybody wants to rise up with pitchforks, but the EULA has no such mandate, and in fact, expressly allows for youtube productions such as this. -
Lowering the nose with an acceleration greater than 1g will produce negative a negative g load.

For those wondering why IR can't penetrate clouds, think about the thermal capacitance of water.

Still no luck with the last OB.

Server not talking to WebGUI
mkosmo replied to Calicrook's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
This has been an issue since an OB build last month. -
Can you verify that thread ID? It's a touch higher than the existing thread IDs.

I wasn't having any luck with the local UI, either.

Not a bad idea. Just like with the pilot stick, it would be helpful in the sim where we don't have the same freedom of movement or ability to blindly use our fingers and muscle memory.

1960 arrived today. Install was smooth and easy.

The suspense is unreal lol. What dimensions will it be released in? If it's all vector, could we get an SVG so we can scale to however we need it?

Anybody know how long it's been taking to get theirs to the US? I got a ship notice 9 days ago, been impatiently waiting since :-)

Around my parts, I pay significantly less than $100 for gigabit synchronous service.

Dedi web GUI not responding
mkosmo replied to Ron Attwood's topic in Multiplayer Server Administration
Same here, both through the DCS website and the local web interface. There is certainly a listener running on 8088/tcp, though. -
It may have started there, but they're clearly non-sequential.

F-14A of 70's Vs F-14A of 90's Vs F-14A Iranian
mkosmo replied to Satarosa's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Articles out there suggest that intelligence reports that they are. With some quick googling, it sounds like they have increased their airworthy fleet numbers, while simultaneously increasing the capabilities of the platform. eg. https://nationalinterest.org/blog/the-buzz/irans-air-force-flies-american-made-f-14-tomcats-24750 -
Intermediate Experienced DCS User w a few MORE F-14 Questions
mkosmo replied to redmantab's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
1- watch your AoA. Remember, no FBW to smooth the edges of flight if you're throwing the stick around. 2- Probably the TID repeater switch on the right? That display can show either the HSD or the TID. To change colors of the top display... Click on it in the middle to add/remove the night filter. The HUD is handled by the white ring to the right. 4- You activated missile prep before? No missile prep means you don't get a hot trigger. 5- That entirely depends on the situation. Cookie cutter answers may not apply here. 6- Yes, it's a long range interceptor. -
The Odyssey+ and I have been enjoying DCS together quite well. And no, you won't use the TrackIR while using VR.

Instead of blindly yelling in to the void, why don't you post a screenshot of the Paypal transaction details as settled? -
Changing Pilot Names and Aircraft Numbers Using On The Tomcat
mkosmo replied to Chopper A-10's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Go open the textures in the paintkit, find the canopy, and edit the names. Also, find the board numbers you want to change and change them. It's not rocket surgery. You can then either export as a TGA or DDS (I use the Intel DDS plugin), create a livery folder with it, define a description file, and you're off to the races. Lots of examples to go by already in the structure of the game and the paint kit. You may also want to browse the F14 skinners thread. -
Oh, sweet. I didn't actually see that, so I was planning to expect even later than that!

It seems to be doing a dumb thing of trying to start nose-level and then nulling out the rate and holding the altitude. No idea if it's correct. I'm sure one of the real-world guys can let us know. I wonder if that changed between AFCS/DFCS, too?

With the hoggit bumrush, I imagine there may be a little wait for most of us, I imagine. This isn't something we could expect a small vendor to have 100 of on the shelf without already having most of them ready to ship.
