  1. It's obvious modern aircrafts are a lot easier to fly and use weapon. It's an opinion of every real life pilot. Flight computer will not allow you to make any seriuous mistake and kill yourself, pilots say "you don't fly, you vote on maneuver using the stick" , long range air and ground weapon is super easy to use and guide itself automatically to the target in the air or on the ground. WW2 fighters were very hard to fly or fight, every air combat was close maneuver dogfight, every shoot was low powered machine gun aimed manually using whole plane without any aim assistance. Cold War was in between, still mostly manual flight control and extreme Mach 2 performance to tame and high wing loading, still moslty manual aiming with dumb or early guided imperfect weapons, still mostly close range dogfight needed to achieve the kill. Just compare aircraft destroyed per 1000 flight during in example carrier landings. F/A-18 with computer control close to zero. F-8 Crusader from Vietnam era, some significant number. F-4 Corsair during WW2, a butchery, more aircrafts lost during landings than from enemy fire. That's how it was. To vertically land a Harrier you needed some serious pilot skill. In F-35B computer landing perfectly even without pilot input at all, it's fascinating but it's like watching a movie, fun but only one time.
  2. The '80s just are much more suitable for a flight simulator where you maneuver, do things, use pilot skills, maneuvering, dogfighting, aiming, avoiding fire, navigating and so on. The technological revolution after the fall of the Soviets made computers do almost everything for pilots, what remains is to admire the views when electronics and automation do almost everything, instead of the pilot. It maybe fun for the first few missions when you are momorizing which buttons to press in specific order, to destroy an enemy from a great distance without ever seeing him, but after a few flights it you can fall asleep. Just compare what F-16A, F/A-18A, Su-17 or MiG-29A had to do in '80s to destroy enemy warehouse and what they had to do in 2007 with JDAM or something.
  3. Yes, yes, yes my favourite fighter of all times. But some earlier variant which actually made 104-0 record making his hands dirty, F-15A or C from Israeli-Arab wars or Operation Desert Storm when Eagle ruled the skies! For sure not another 2005-2010 spAMRAAM when proud Eagle became only a cheap outdated brother of the F-22...
  4. Fantastic map and lot of possible scenarios. Edit: This Soviet MiGs and Sukhois from the video posted up look fantastic, Soviet empire + Warsaw Pact was force to be reckoned with in '80s.
  5. Full fidelity Su-25A, flying along Mi-24P in Afganistan war or NATO vs Soviets in Europe. Rolling in with guns, rockets and bombs in AAA fire!
  6. Navy J multirole with powerfull doppler look-down radar to make it interestiong for the RIO and to operate from the aircraft carrier. And silver paint air superiority F-4E for Vietnam or cold war gun kill.
  7. I would love to see F-16A or F/A-18A from '80s in lightweight versions and manual close range weapon. Or any other fighters or strike aircrafts from this era, dumb bombs and rockets, winders, guns and dogfights (instead of spaming AMRAAMs or JSOW without effort) is my type of fun!
  8. Map looks really good. Very different from what we have.
  9. I would prefer such map over practically any map we have in DCS. Rumble with Soviets and Warsaw Pact over Fulda Gap. Or maybe i would fight for the Soviets in Mi-24P, MiG-23MLA and MiG-29A!
  10. '80s F/A-18 would be even more fun than 2005 since it would require lot more skill to be successfull. Without computer controlled long range automatic guided weapon you would be going a lot closer to the enemy both in the air and on the ground for the kill. Antother thing is Hornet's maneuverability would be a lot more important and actually usefull in '80s scenario without AMRAAM, JHMCS and JSOW.
  11. And Mirage-2000C, Viggen, Huey, Gazelle
  12. Very much needed. Especially considering how much effort Razbam put to model this great quality pilot body.
  13. It doesn't have to be of great quality, just a common pilot body adds a lot especially in VR. With empty cockpit i'm constantly being reminded it's only a game.
  14. When i think Hind i see Soviet mechanized assaut. With all its glory but also some limitations. Analog Hind with some modern computer on a pilot's head would ruin my inpression. Very questionable it would be realistic at all. For sure not in Soviet times when Hind was feared and relevant.
  15. Look at any move with an air combat, it's all about close air combat or close ground bombing with pilot skill and manual weapon, even if it's not realistic in today's technology. Just wait for Top Gun 2. Why there were dozens of air combat simulators and no ballistic missile operator simulator typing some coordinates and pressing the pickle? Because his job is boring, automated and doesn't require any skill. If the fight in Top Gun 1986 would be like fire AMRAAM from the distance and return to boat, it wouldn't encourage anyone to join the naval aviation. That's why F-16A would be a day one buy for me, or MiG-29A, Mirage F.1, MiG-23, A-6, A-7, F-8, MiG-17, F-4 Phantom. 80's Pre-AMRAAAM Block 30 would be nice as well, better performance at cost of simpler weapons and avionics.
  16. Legacy Viggen proper for Cold War servers would be great, it's Viggen's natural enviroment anyway. And the changes would be minor. BTW I love how Heatblur maintains relations with community, always classy, understanding, honest and respectfull, with such attitude they have a bright future ahead. My type of company!

    Mirage F1 hype

Mirage F.1 coming to DCS? What a news! Such a great jet. I love how this is legacy technology without AMRAAM but just Magic/Sidewinder and guns air combat. My type of fun!
  18. Wise and impartial words. I wasn't even alive in '50s when the Buff was a dangerous bomber. My dad either. I still want every module in it's prime. Mustang from '40s, Buff from '50s, MiG-25 from '60s, F-15 from '70s, MiG-29 or F-16 from '80s. I like to watch Mike tyson's fights in it's prime from late '80 even if i wasn't alive back then, not post-prison '90s overweight Mike surpassed by other boxers and surely not today's sad farce with Roy Jones... Similarly i want a slick muscle '50s dangerous B-52 when it was a top dog, not modern B-52 "helpless transport plane with cruise missiles" or i want a slick lightweight agile pure F-16 from '80s when it was a top dog, not fat overweight outdated F-16 from 2007 surpassed those times and partially replaced by way more capable and modern F-22, EF2000, Rafale etc.
  19. Yes, I would buy one, but only some early variant from '50s. Why? Two reasons shaping the gameplay with such bomber: First thing is in early '60s B-52 main weapon became AGM-28 Hound Dog with range of 780nm, late 1970s B-52's main weapon became AGM-86B ALCM Air Launched Cruise Missile with range of more than 1500nm. DCS map size is roughly 400nm x 400nm. Mission would be like takeoff (at the very corner of the map) -> fire -> touchdown.... Second thing is could '50s B-52 defend itself against or avoid MiG-15, MiG-17, MiG-19, Yak-28? Arguably yes, it would have a good chance due to small speed difference, primitive short range interceptor radars, limited interceptor range and very limited armament with most basic short range missiles and guns. Could '80s B-52 defend itself or do anything against MiG-29, Su-27, MiG-31? No. It would be shoot down like a transport plane without the slightest chance. Totally one sided boring "war on terror" when i fly without any danger like on training doesn't intrest me in the slightest, tossing cruise missiles from 1500nm from the corner of the map either. I would be interested in trying to get through enemy interceptors to drop the bombs with my dangerous silver B-52 like in Dr. Strangelove when it was still possible, not "flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong"

    F-15E?

It's even worse, unmanned drones are the future.
  21. F-16A gameplay would be fantastic, 100% close maneuver air dogfighting with guns and winders! Modern F-16C = AIM120 long range BVR and smart cruise missiles at cost of losing significant part of maneuverability. The problem is you could theoretically dogfight in F-16C, even if it is not as nimble as early variants, but only in scripted artificial enviroment, i.e. setting some mission when you intentionally load planes with guns and winders only, for fun. But in more realistic scenario like SP missions or campaigns or MP servers you will never be close enough to dogfight against AIM120 armed enemy. Or you will die in a second. I hope when current F-16C will be finished we will have some pure dogfighting earlier F-16. Long live ED!
  22. MiG-29 with concave upper fuselage looks like a perfect fighter!
  23. Is this sure? Is ED going to make full fidelity MiG-29 9.12 like Tomcat, Mirage or Hornet? Or this is some community speculation? When 9.12 came into service it was the last time fighter pilots were Chads using their skill to chase each other and maneuver in close combat to kill. Instead of being an extension of close to omnipotent electronics and long range guided missiles. Day one buy for me if that's true!
