KA-50 extern sound is wrong in 2.5.6
Richard Dastardly replied to Crash *'s topic in Bugs and Problems
Having said that, there are times when the internal rotor sound can completely overpower anything else - in a steep tight turn for instance. -
KA-50 extern sound is wrong in 2.5.6
Richard Dastardly replied to Crash *'s topic in Bugs and Problems
Internal rotor sound is certainly better. -
I don't use any with a VPC Warbrd base, not for anything except the Gazelle & some slight tweaking on the Huey anyway. I find the Mi-8 easy to anticipate & easy to squeeze around, has a stable feel unlike the Huey's feeling of balancing on a pole.

A blade is a wing, so Q and wing loading affect it just like any other wing - you just have to consider how ithe air around it is moving in a hover. I'm terrible with TOW though - if I can't get it airborne with the engines at the top of yellow then obviously I need a rolling takeoff, ahem. I still dump it into the ground occasionally, usually it's me doing things I really shouldn't be doing rather than anything like VRS.

Seems ok with the lights off - that was me leaning forwards to take a screenshot & losing eyeline down the sight - and to be fair the internal cockpit lights on this have been a bit mad for ages. I mean, who needs NVGs when you can just turn the cockpit lights on... That was a previous version, obviously. One of the devs flies this thing almost exclusively, it's a pity he's not anything to do with developing it.

I'm gonna put a small amount on bloom - I've yet to find an implementation in a game that wasn't overdone & usually I just turn it off. I did try enabling HDR but I don't think it actually works yet.

My OB install is currently 2.5.6.43503 - the latest OB downloadable version is reporting as 2.5.6.43453 - is that a mixup at the ED end or should I update to that lower version?

While that is true, monitor colour profiles and calibration should get all monitors reasonably close for a gaming use case. You probably won't ever get 3 completely colour matched unless they're aimed at professionals with a suitable price tag, but luma levels should be easier. Calibration is a little time consuming and to do it properly you need a tool, but eyeball calibration with test images is easy & good enough for general stuff.

At least have it check the DCS system FFB setting & stop any special stuff if it's off...

Yes, I had similar - turn the headlights off for one.

Can certainly get quite interesting at times... I leave my gamma at default ( 2 is it? ). Looks ok to me. Outside of Mi-8 schenanigans, obviously... Only flown the Mirage aside from the Mi-8 at night, feels like the cockpit has ( quite ) a bit too much bloom & not enough scattered light - moon is shining through the RH side of the canopy, there was a vague change in lighting when my head stopped occluding it but not noticeable without watching for it. If the instrument lights are really that glowy they should be illuminating the cockpit somewhat. That PC light would do horrible things to night vision :p

DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
Richard Dastardly replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
At least there is one extant, but given it's not run it's engines for over 30 years it might be quite expensive to model... -
Would also need a new flight model. Rhino as a completely modern aircraft isn't likely to happen, any more than Typhoon/Rafale etc. Mapping? new textures etc? depending how it was unwrapped it might vary between neading very little or a huge chunk unwrappd again. Would be fun, if anyone would fly it over the C model. I like having a human tomcat RIO but it doesn't happen much.

For some reason, the Dora. I can take off in the Anton fine...

DCS: Mi-24P - What we know + Discussion
Richard Dastardly replied to MrDieing's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Wonder if we could get that cockpit variation too. Originally I thought the P model a strange choice, but after more experience I think I will take a big cannon over a little turret - and I get thoroughly lost in Hind variants but do the V carry anti-tank missiles?. Considering we spend most of our A2G time popping vehicles rather than troops it does seem like a better package. Ofc if they want to do a V too I'd also get it... Havoc as well. -
Commnity Skins - made official
Richard Dastardly replied to philstyle's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
The 3d package will do a lot of the work for a paintkit - adding small common markings & writing is fairly tine-consuming but honestly not really more than a more complicated paintjob. I'd like a lot more community paints added just so everyone in MP is on the same field. -
Zombie as a DCS trailer soundtrack....really?
Richard Dastardly replied to Boosterdog's topic in Chit-Chat
I actually thought it was chosen as a somewhat ironic commentary on people's obsession with war-fighting even if they've got no involvement in it beyond watching the news ( I'm well aware what the song was written about, given several near misses probably more aware than quite a few people here ). Hats off to whoever picked it if that *was* a consideration, you troll you :D Far too many people everywhere are still fighting old wars. -

Richard Dastardly replied to NineLine's topic in DCS 2.9
Oh please, that thing actually shot a few planes down - it'll be a Blackburn Roc, obviously! -
And we were getting the Corsair before anything Pacific was announced - 3rd parties will do what they want  I'm kinda assuming this is a begging forum for ED rather than everyone :)

DCS: Mi-24P - What we know + Discussion
Richard Dastardly replied to MrDieing's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Except for speed, armour, ATGM, much bigger gun than the Mi-8, systems, etc. I mean sure the original was a new cockpit jammed on the front of a Mi-8  -

Several levels of irony in that choice ( the obvious being it's an extreme anti-war song ). I was quite amused :) Great news about the Ka-50! is the new cockpit going to come with revised bindings so our switches work properly? -
FC3 FM are using the same model as full fidelity now, iirc, so you'd need full flight data.

F111-Aardvark ~ Why you LOVE IT & why we need it
Richard Dastardly replied to Bartacomus's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Well, it doesn't have TFR, but all that does is remove the pilot from the equation :p Tornado & presumably F-111 have somewhat more sophisticated radar than the Viggen, might be worth it for the right mission. -
DCS: Mi-24P - What we know + Discussion
Richard Dastardly replied to MrDieing's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Models are the quick bits though - systems takes waaay longer than modelling, even with experienced people working on both. And now I think about it the AI one is a V rather than P. -
The timeframe for Europe is already set, post D-Day. Russian planes are allies in WW2 too, but when you're picking a group of aircraft for the western Europe front it's a bit hard to get them in somehow until almost VE day... I like the way there is at least an attempt at focus for the WW2 aircraft rather than the randomness of the jet choices. Italy was on the Allies side by then too. That Ju88 made flyable would be fantastic. IIRC from the original Europe flyables list what is left is a Typhoon and a Me-262, but I guess plans might change. I wish the Spit we have was a Griffon model, but it is what it is I guess. 190 F-8 is a minor mod to the Anton; just getting a decent set of payload choices for the A-8 would be a nice start.
