 although I think there is still a problem over the carrier deck.
-
I just tried 2 airfield landings, both times I tried to put the wheels on the very edge of the tarmac and both times it landed exactly where I expected it to. That said, I need to review the trk files in slo mo just to make sure what I saw in pit is represented outside. That's always a good thing to do, save trk file and replay in slo mo. If it was bad, I'd find doing this impossible to do :smilewink: edit: further testing does seem to indicate something strange happening over carrier decks. Reported !

Did TACAN logic get changed again? Nothing from the Stennis
Druid_ replied to Nealius's topic in Mission Editor
when you quit, save a .trk file and post it here. Others can replay it and help you out if you are doing something wrong. -
@Nealius Looking at both those pictures and comparing your VVI to the horizon/waterline I would say your VVI has risen and not fallen. Since ground effect reduces your Rate of Descent by producing a cushioning effect I would expect therefore your AoA to rise as shown in your 2nd picture. Your rate of descent in the 2nd pic has also fallen. Admittedly there have been a few issues that required tweaking regarding ground effect and it is something we will continue to monitor. The high speed sucking effect at around 10ft is reported.

ok as promised, I have my curves set for more dry thrust control. The curves below will give you small throttle movements to 79% (so minute movements to taxi) then more throttle movement in the 79% to Max dry Thrust. My throttles don't pop into Burner until the last 1/2 inch of movement (I'm not using the Burner detent on my WH). Since I'm mostly using the 80% to 95% range especially for Approach/formation & Air to Air refuelling then with more throttle movement for each % of thrust I have finer control. Disclaimer: This is for a TM WH Throttle with no burner detent set (far too far back in the throttle movement range in my opinion) and is my own personal preference. If you however want finer control in the mid to top end range then this is what I recommend. Fly safe.

^ Ok will do but I am away with work away from PC. Back tomorrow. Its a large community so was rather hoping another helpful soul would chirp in. I also believe theres a thread or two kicking about on curves for F18 if one can be bothered to search for em.

Hi, firstly I agree in part with your analysis as it was my first impression also. PAM is something that is actively being looked into and there are a few ideas. One problem is that the aircraft has far to much AoA stability and the rate at which the IAS decays I believe is excessive and may be related to gear drag modelling. This results in escessive stab movement to compensate which is seen by the pilot in pitch movement. One thing I have found with the F18 sim is that you really need to optimise your throttle curves for better top end control. Linear just ends up with tiny throttle movements resulting in large thrust changes. Try setting a curve or making a custom curve. Don't know if you've flown RR engines on EPR where a tiny throttle movement to start taxi = lots of power and then shifted to a GE eng aircraft using N1 where you can move the throttles in a greater range for the same thrust making taxying a GE aircraft far more pleasurable. Setting good curves will greatly assist you from my own experience. I literally went from rapid throttle movements in PAM to much smaller movements to control ROD.

Hmmn, very strange indeed you are right even after I took control of your jet. Can't think why, took your .trk into Mission Editor and tried increasing carrier speed, changing wind etc. to no avail. Mine launched at clean A/C full internal fuel. I will add yr .trk file to my report and see what they find. Thanks

Verified and reported thanks. Can't reproduce this. I slowly increased power and at 99%N1 cat launch occurred for me. Maybe check your throttle curves?

[ALREADY REPORTED] Radio and Waypoint glitch
Druid_ replied to GMachado's topic in Bugs and Problems
no need to video. stop mission and save a track file before quiting or restarting. Then add the .trk file to your post. We can then just replay your track file to see what you did & what happened. Thanks -
Warning Caption After Deselecting Hornet Autopilot.
Druid_ replied to Tinkickef's topic in Bugs and Problems
Known Issue -
IRL aircraft have run out of fuel taxying in. Fuel leaks are one reason amongst many. Guys, if you find something unrealistic or plain wrong by all means report it. ED will assign a priority level to it accordingly. There is more than one programmer & they cover different areas of the simulation, so you never know. A low priority bug may get attention earlier than you think.

3 position switch desynchronized if switched too fast
Druid_ replied to El Bastardo's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
FIXED in beta update 5 :) -
This is a known bug and has been reported. IRL you wouldn't raise the flaps immediately after take-off as the aircraft could easily settle back down again. A few Hornets were lost as a result of this. Ideally and IIRC you want to wait until approx 4 degrees AoA and then bring them up as this is how the FCS schedules to 1G flight.

Don't bother, I thought it was working but for some reason when I ran it again just now it stopped at the last waypoint. I need to look for a ship:controller
-
Attached is a mission with a switch waypoint script on the final waypoint for those people who want the carrier to keep going without stopping once it reaches it final waypoint. Also included is a tanker who orbits. Good for Carrier training I should think. The script file is on the advanced waypoint action of the final waypoint of the carrier. Change accordingly Carrier Loop.miz

Good mission creators will set the speed of the tanker correctly. One of the problems in DCS here is that you have to enter the TAS (true air speed) into the mission editor and not the IAS (indicted air speed). So it's quite possible the tanker is flying slower than it should if the mission creator hasn't done the conversion from IAS TO TAS. It's also possible to script the mission so that it changes its speed for different aircraft. As for the tanker rolling into a turn as you are about to connect, bad luck but even IRL the tanker has a set airspace to work in and if comms are silent he won't warn the chick in tow that he's about to turn, you just got to be ready for it. DCS tankers btw limit their bank angle when hose is out (15 degrees aob) whereas IRL they don't (usually all turns are 25-30 degrees aob). Easiest solution in some ways is to have multiple tankers in a mission with each one being suited to certain aircraft types based on speed and altitude. Not exactly hard.
-
I always teach guys to pull alongside the port side of the tanker and Triiiimmmm to the correct speed. Then practice formating on the tanker approx 5m away from basket. Do NOT grip the joystick tightly, the aircraft is in trim so v.small gentle movements (try using just 2 fingers). Once there pick some references that work for you. Until you get that nailed it's going to be very hard to contact the hose and maintain it. Moving from a steady trimmed position from 5m to contact is a combination of quick glances at basket as you approach but mainly formating on the tanker. Walk throttles fwd and back to control speed (3 kts Max into basket) again small movements. Once you have contact resist the temptation to chop the power, maintain forward movement whilst immediately taking your eyes off basket and back onto tanker. Formate on tanker, pick new references and maintain. At least in DCS we don't have the basket moving away from aircraft due to airflow bow wave (usually means a touch of rudder at last minute) but it's a valid technique if your slightly left at last second.

3 position switch desynchronized if switched too fast
Druid_ replied to El Bastardo's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Someone attach a track file here and I'll take a look. -
Yep this^. Reported already, just didn't quite make it into Early release. It'll come.
-
I have tested the AP extensively and there are bugs and missing functionality. Its reported & will get some attention at some point. When its fully functional I'll prob do a tutorial video on it.

3 position switch desynchronized if switched too fast
Druid_ replied to El Bastardo's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
with flap switch at centre position I flick to UP binding it to AUTO/HALF. Then from centre to down binding to FULL. So far had no problems as you guys describe. I too generally go from Auto straight to full. -
correct, moving the tdc cursor to top or bottom should increase/decrease the scale. Tracked targets should also vary the scale accordingly. Its in the list of things to do.
