Yes, it is a cleaner cockpit, I imagine they can figure somewhere to fit the thing if there was interest in it. I just want to show that commercial GPS could be shoehorned into this, as in real life. I don't know that it's used much for navigation. I'm in middle of reading "snake pilot: flying the cobra attack helicopter in Vietnam", and the author discusses the need for front seaters to be sharp with map reading because it was they who called in artillery strikes, called in downed birds, or called for airstrikes and whatnot, so being able to radio in accurate coordinates was paramount I don't know modern doctrine for the Hind, but I can imagine it's much the same& in that sense having a gps mounted in the front seat makes a lot of sense. The ns430 seems to be gaining traction lately, first with c101 and now gazelle. I hope ED will take this opportunity to implement one of their own modules into a new airframe where something similar has been used in real life

That sounds great, but in my original post, I mentioned Syria map tho. No need to deploy outside of Jordan. It would be nice to use them on their own home turf. Having been in both Israel and jordan, it would be nice to fly there even tho I don't know how many airfields are modelled there The RJAF has also been active in Syria, albeit with f-16s, it's not all that contrived to find a use for the c-101 there

funny, i had considered cutting my teeth on "how to build a campaign" on a hypothetical situation of an iranian-supported insurgency led by former leaders from the Dhofar rebellion rising up following the (IRL) death of sultan Qaboos. This campaign would feature joint ops with the Emiratis across the border, and also missions to counter training camps, staging areas, and water-borne supply lines Unfortunately, the Omani area on the PG map is very small and flying from one airfield to the other, staying within omani airspace, is a very short flight. this was to be done with the f-16, or with the c-101 acting as a stand-in for a hawk or other airframe the Omanis really did use I bring up jordan because they did fly the c-101, and still train iraqi pilots with them

i dont think theres a citation, and im not sure i agree with the 70-85% figure however, i do believe that adoption of VR is much more tightly clustered in two populations: flight simmers & racing gamers this is based on three observations: 1) the vast majority of gaming is not well served by VR. racing& flight are though. When the player is seated it eliminates some of the shortcomings to VR, and those two genres benefit greatly from the immersion that VR provides 2) Racing and flight simmers tend often to be very dedicated to their niche, often seeing it as a hobby rather than a video game. Both often are willing to shell out $$$ for high dollar, very specialized peripherals and sometimes create elaborate setups to support their simulation. Additionally, they arent dependent on the VR hand controllers, another weak area for VR 3.) Gamers is a very broad term, and where do you cut it off? console gamers? mobile gamers? casual gamers? by gaming genre?

Question about the NS 430 integration into the Gazelle
ngreenaway replied to kotor633's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
i see. i wasnt expecting free, but since i didnt see it in the store, even tho a couple other new items had been added i wasnt sure what the plan was thank you for clarifying. it would be nice if they add it to the store before the next stable update -
With the release of the Syria map, it would be nice having a Jordanian AF c-101 counter insurgency campaign. Comments, ideas anyone?

Question about the NS 430 integration into the Gazelle
ngreenaway replied to kotor633's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
I asked on the patch notes section, and haven't seen an answer: Is this a free option? I went to the ED store and didn't see the add-on available for sale the way it is for c-101,l39 or mi8 -
Is the ns430 for gazelle free? I don't see it in the store alongside mi8,l39,and c101 If it will be a paid add on, when's it coming to the ED store?

thats why i wasnt a day one purchaser, more like an hour one purchaser, if even that ugra had me at israel/syria. if i could have only one map in the game, that would be it

How much hard disk space does dcs syria map require?
ngreenaway replied to huchanronaa's topic in DCS: Syria Map
give credit where credit is due, they are doing less harm with their updates and keeping stable more on parity with OB... ill concede a single data point doesnt make a trend, we'll see tomorrow -

In a word: Nope That disclaimer, while well intentioned, is pretty awful. ED already has a disclaimer on early access, so people are informed on what they buy: Early Access is an option for you to play this module in an early state, but it will be incomplete with bugs. The time a product remains in Early Access can vary widely based on the scope of the project, technical hurdles, and how complete the module is when it enters Early Access. Eagle Dynamics and all of our third parties strive to make this period as short as possible. An Early Access module can be played on both the Open Beta and Release versions of DCS World. Once the module exits Early Access, you will automatically have the Release version. Laobi had a more succinct (as he often does) disclaimer at around 07:30: The rules this forum operates under are sufficient, and no new rules-especially ones restricting people from voicing their opinion- are going to improve things Additionally, allowing positive things to be said of something while disallowing negative things not only skews the perception of the product to prospective buyers it also has pretty crummy optics for ED and the devs if only pre-approved opinions are allowed to be voiced It seems some simmers are like my wife sometimes: never really happy unless they're complaining about something If people couldn't voice their displeasure, the dev wouldn't be able to gauge what's really important to the player base...such as how many people want Cyprus for some reason or another The clamoring of the torches and pitchforks mobs got ED to adjust the patching schedule to something that seems to really work well. Some things are part and parcel to these fora: People complaining things get released too early and half baked People complaining things aren't getting released quickly enough People asking for modern red for/full fi fc3/ (insert random airframe here) People bickering over OB or stable, or dev resource allocation for hornet vs viper And of course, what is EA, how long should it last, how quickly should a module come to full release, and what should be included in EA Those discussions aren't going away, and with as annoying as they can sometimes be the alternative: a new rule to shut down certain opinions won't make the forum any better. Quite the opposite I'm really excited for this map. I think ugra has done an exemplary job and as I've said elsewhere I think this will set the standard for what people expect out of maps in the future But if it runs choppy in vr or MP I would expect people to be able to voice their concerns about it

huh. oh, wait, wrong clue

i originally put this in the mi24 section, but because ns430 stakeholders read here, i crossposted it Will the hind be getting a vr- friendly NS430? Image below shows a different Garmin GPS unit in use I can't zoom in enough to read definitively, but in this Bulgarian mi-24, there also appears to be some gps to the right of the sights this seems to be a reasonable way to mount the ns430, similar to how aviodev & now polychop implemented it
-
maybe same reason the copilot in the MI8 has more navigation instruments, i suppose the second pic i included seems to be a reasonable way to mount the ns430, similar to how aviodev & now polychop implemented it

That's some thread necromancy, this one's been dead and buried for 4 years now
-
I wouldn't. Plain Jane unarmed c-130 for me like 99% of the fleet But it's not gonna happen, regardless
-
If this runs smoothly in VR, I can see this becoming my favorite new map It may very well set the standard of what people hope to see in future maps as well!

That's fine, you should be up to speed on all that...in about two weeks!

Question about the NS 430 integration into the Gazelle
ngreenaway replied to kotor633's topic in SA-342M Gazelle
Sweet! How did I miss that? I can't wait...first aviodev with the c-101, and now the gazelle gets it in 3d?! Good stuff, looks great
