  1. is there a flying iron discord channel?
  2. You must teach me this sorcery
  3. Perhaps hold off on the video card. Im quite happy with my RTX2070FE, not much more than $400 at the moment. You'll really appreciate having the 32g of ram. I wouldn't take the thrustmaster warthog even if you paid me the $400
  4. Always an autostart. Never did a manual start, no interest in it. I have too much going on,all competing for my time and there's no way I'm going to be able to learn & retain the start sequences of every module, especially when it may be quite awhile between times I may fly a particular airframe. Start sequences are perishable knowledge. Also, I fly exclusively in vr making checking my notes a bit more difficult and a lot more immersion breaking Generally I spend the time in an autostart setting up my nav radios and other settings that are easier done on the ground than in-flight, along with familiarizing myself with my flight plan, tasks, st cetera
  5. I'm right there with you I don't see a justification in adding weapons were never used because the operators never owned them ("but I want them!" Isn't a justification) In any case, it would be nice to see aviodev's position on the matter I'd like them to tie up the remaining loose ends to this fantastic module & then focus they attention to detail like the eye of sauron on some other module, tho I think I'd prefer the mirage 3 to the f1
  6. we all have concessions and compromises we have to make to compensate for things that exist IRL that cant otherwise be replicated in DCS. For instance, while zoom is unrealistic, on the other hand we dont have things such as sunlight glinting on a canopy on a target aircraft which would make spotting easier Im not a hardliner, but i dont like an expectation for the dev to put weapons on an aircraft that were never there. If none of the four c-101 operators had gbu-12s, it doesnt matter if it is the same hard point: they were never carried. This is also overlooking any onboard systems needed to use the gbu-12s. its all well and good they had the capability to hang bombs they didnt have under the c-101, but that still wouldnt be useful im generally of the opinion that if someone doesnt like an option, they dont need to use it, but if theres nothing wrong with OP asking for the GBUs, then likewise theres nothing wrong giving a dissenting opinion- i hope the GBUs arent put on the aircraft Why? its an erosion of individuality of airframes. Part of what makes each airframe unique and interesting isnt just its capabilities, but its limitations. figuring out how to make each aircraft be functional and useful on a battlefield in spite of its limitations is part of the joy of learning these aircraft. Whats unique when they all carry the same systems? If you want to fire PGMs, fly a PGM equipped plane. DCS has several, and theyre pretty much interchangeable. In this, they lack a certain sense of character. Wanna try fighting with one hand tied behind your back? Fly an older aircraft with a realistic loadout. if you invent fantasy loadouts, where do you stop? What, then , becomes the argument against amraams or targeting pods? I certainly hope the dev sticks to only weapons that were used operationally on the c-101.Aviodev has shown they can do fantastic work, id like to see what they can do with another airframe rather than figuring out how to shoehorn in weapons this aircraft never carried
  7. I certainly hope it doesn't become so equipped. Why load a weapon the aircraft can't use? It lacks a laser to guide the bomb Second, if you were to draw a Venn diagram with the four c-101 operators in one field, nation's with the gbu-12 in the other, you wouldn't have any overlap
  8. I can't wait to relive the halcyon days of Jane's Longbow
  9. Thank you! for now I just swap seats
  10. Yes, there really wasn't much to this newsletter in terms of news...but some weeks are like that, I suppose, when there just isn't much to report on
  11. i dont know, ive tried to install it a couple times and never got it to work- it just doesnt come up as a selectable option. i can try again and see what happens
  12. sweet! will all your ships be a part of a single bundled mod at some point?
  13. Which is precisely why youve priced a beer at $0,50 ea
  14. Those go with the viper, duh! Snakes in a snake!
  15. I use only vr unless I'm doing something with the mission editor or want to make a quick graphical or control option change without fly-testing anything
  16. Why apologize? I seem to remember heatblur putting out feelers on the tornado some time back. It would be in good hands if they produced it Me? I'm just looking to see if I can mount ka-50 rotors to the top of a tornado, and graft it's cockpit to the front of the whole monstrosity so we can have DCS: black sharknado
  17. I thought tornado was considered "not it" for quite some time now
  18. I'm not sure, but I think Syria doesn't have mi8s IRL, but in that case the mi8 is a perfectly fine stand-in for the mi17, as far as our purposes go. Both can dump barrel bombs with equal ease
  19. Up until last week, stable and OB were the same exact build, so no....stable is not far behind. I'd expect a stable update soonish These aren't the dark days of the 2.5.6 rollout where stable got no love for 6 months & OB got broke and broker with each passing week Stick with stable, you'll be bombing Syria soon enough
  20. I think mi8 doesn't either...or ka-50, but I'd have to fire it up to know for sure
  21. Good eye!
  22. According to the FAQ, king Hussein air college, the air base in Al-Mafraq is included which is 45miles southeast of the southern point of the sea of Galilee and 12 miles south of the Jaber border crossing into syria An air college seems a likely place to see an aircraft like a c-101! Additionally, Jordan was active in Syria in 2014-15 and while it was likely primarily f-16s involved, we could notionally do coin missions with the c101., Especially in support of the Southern Front, &later the Revolutionary Commando Army Jordan maintains good relations with both Lebanon and Israel, so conceivably we could see joint operations missions, or perhaps have airfields in either country be used as an emergency divert if the aircraft can't make it back to Mafraq Jordan isn't a major player in the Syria map, but of the four real life operators (Chile,Honduras,Jordan, and Spain) this is our chance to fly the c-101 with the least number of "make-believe conditions"
  23. A small request: in future versions, can the aiming dot on the cockpit glass be "erasable" , as in added or removed on the refuel and rearming window? Often I enjoy flying this unarmed, and in vr, sometimes that dot brings back memories of the "optigrab" for the movie "The Jerk"
