  1. He usually gets me on approach ... I'm seconds from touchdown after flying a long, constant, slow course for a couple of minutes down the glide slope and suddenly BANG! Just easier to keep him out of the way!
  2. Get him to 'Anchor here' before you start your approach, then when you are on the ground get him to land ... the idiot also crashes into you fairly regularly too! Are the bars locked? There is a switch above that nav panel to unlock them.
  3. Thanks Freefall, thats much clearer! Except I tend to steer the a/c around rather than the TGP just to get you close enough!
  4. Center the TGP which puts a small diamond in the HUB. Get that over the target and the select lock or track - sorry I can't remember the keys but I know which finger to use!
  5. Thanks Rainmaker. All we need now is some decent boom lighting from the tanker. I thought in RL that NVGs reduced depth perception, probably fairly important when doing AAR ... perhaps just in the early ones but not really a problem on a 2D screen ;) Anyone seen any videos (helmet cams?) from the receiving aircraft???
  6. Thanks guys, I guess TACAN and NVGs will work, but up close the lighting of the end of the pipe seems to mess up NVGs and there is no way to light or see the top end ... its doable, but seems unrealistic. EtherealN: As to having tankers low over possible enemy SHORADs, the AAR planner needs a courts martial! I would assume they stay over friendly land or sea and have a dedicated CAP - a heck of a lot of assets to risk unnecessarily. SimFreak: I guess the answer is AWACS talking you on in the combat zone. It would be good if you could request the tanker flash his lights or turn on a light over the boom ...
  7. Tried fiddling with this and it didn't seem to do much ... Also, why does the tanker seem to call disconnect for no reason - sitting there, in the green and suddenly 'disconnect' - I thought in v1.10 that it was supposed to say 'transfer complete' - which I only had once!
  8. Always best to switch master arm off in AAR ... too tempting to squeeze that trigger in frustration ;)
  9. I notice from watching a few DCS AAR videos that people are constantly adjusting the throttles by fairly large amounts, you can see the engine needles jumping around or the throttles move - seems to work. Is this the 'RL' way or do pilots try and find a sweet spot and only need to make tiny adjustments?? Interested because I seem to have a real problem staying on the hose often connecting/disconnect 5-10 times before full.

    Water

I prefer the medium ... water just isn't that shiny 99.999% of the time!
  11. diveplane, a lamp on the boom would seem sensible ... the whole setup seems unnecessarily dark! Given that enemy fighters have radar, the requirement to do the whole thing in the dark seems unnecessary at 16,000'.
  12. Cheers, I tried with NVGs only but got too much flaring when close and can't see the nozzle ... perhaps I'll just have to play around with the various lighting options and see what works best.
  13. Thanks JG2, I'll try and find the switch! The TACAN is ok but not precise enough for a dark night ... and you have to get very close to get the lights on via a pre-contact call. I suppose you could use a combination of NVGs/TGP and then switch to lights when close. Perhaps they could add a comms command to ask the tanker to flash his lights! Inseckt, I'll try and find some YouTube vids, thanks. EDIT: Most seem to be from the tanker using NVGs but have lots of flaring.
  14. Any hints/tips regards best lighting? * How do you find a blacked out tanker in the new 'dark' nights? Can I get him to flash or show lights? Or do you have to use NVGs? * When I approach the tanker and get close, the tip of the probe is illuminated by my lights but not the colours at the top of the flexible bit even when connected - so I cant see whether to speedup/climb/descend or slow down ... is there a floodlight to light up the entire probe? In NVGs I obvious have no colour but could work it out I suppse. Thanks
  15. Nate, thanks but it made no difference on my system.
  16. Remember that it is 12k' above the threat not at 12k' ... so if you are flying in the mountains, you may have to fly much higher!
  17. Yes, me too!
  18. Not really true ... if we are saying that the JTAC code is in error and dropping leading zeros, then 'he' is still giving you a 6 figure ref, with associated accuracy, just reading it as a 4.
  19. Just to confirm, putting the extra zero in after the 3rd given digit worked ... :)
  20. I had this happen to me ... I'm west of Batumi, getting co-ords for a target just east and when entering the data into the CDU I get a mark out in the sea, next time I'll try putting the zero after the first 3 digits! Could do with a decent fix really!
  21. Absolutely amazing! Great work ED!
  22. I thought that too ... the ADI looks flat!
  23. Losing both engines and all instruments flying over a SAM I thought I was safely above and gliding back to base ... and landing successfully.
  24. I thought that crash was on take-off?
  25. Thanks hassata. I loved the old TM Foxy configuration software and really hate the new WH software. I think I loaded it once and never since! I have to say the new WH is fantastic! I loved my old Cougar but it had its faults. The WH is worth every penny IMHO.
