@Dragon1-1, I should've worded that better. I didn't mean have the nozzle angle operate along with the throttle position. I mean have the angle control integrated into the thrust lever as a thumb switch or something. But, of course the angle lever would still be there as a backup in case of a thrust lever switch failure. @G.J.S WOW, that is crazy. I wondered if there were some type of thrust bleed that would direct a very small amount of auto valved thrust based on pilot inputs, while in VTOL arrangement. But, I had no idea and couldn't really find any data about it. Thanks for that answer.
-
Do pilots of the, AV-8b constantly have to adjust the angle of the thrust nozzles while performing VTOL? Or, is the angle set and held based on the current weight of the jet? If the pilots have to constantly tune the angle of the nozzles, why is it a separate control input? Why would the noz angle input, not be integrated into the throttle? Also, how is it that the Harrier reacts to rudder input when it's in a stabilized hover? Since there is no airflow across the rudders surface? May be stupid questions but, still gonna ask.

Well, I like flying all of my modules pretty much equally. So, I don't map my HOTAS controls to match the actual air frame. I try to map them controlling the same features and sensors across the board. But, i.e. when you control the antenna in the Hornet & F-16 with an axis, they have a different behavior. The Hornets ant elev will stay consistent with where you set it. But, the Vipers ant elev will stay synced with the axis, therefore snapping back to center when you release the axis that I'm wanting to use. So, I was just wondering if I could change the input type of this particular axis over to act as switches for the F-16. But, have it remain as an analog axis for the F-18? And it store those settings made in SimAppPro, to that particular plane profile. Like the old Logitech x56 app did. I was just curious about it, before I make a work around and use a different mapping strategy. I can't really find much info on Sim App Pro.
-
I need to set a couple axis inputs over to switch type inputs for different aircraft. Is there a way to save the type of input an axis switch is set too, for each aircraft profile in Sim App Pro? For example, I need the slider to work as an axis in some aircraft. But, I need it to function as a switch in other aircraft. So, is it possible to save the type of input that controls are set to emulate, to each individual aircraft profile? And, not have to open Sim App Pro and change the type of switch input, every time I use a particular aircraft?

Make the speed and sensitivity of TDC/sensor cursors for the F-16 and the F-18, independently tunable? i.e. In the Hornet, if the curve and saturation isn't tuned way down, the sensor cursor is nearly impossible to control with precision in A2A. But, when a curve is used and the saturation cut down to try and correct the erratic movement. That then makes slewing Mavs or the TGP painfully slow. It's the same way with the antenna elevation/TGP zoom

Needing Knowledgeable Input On PC Build
rwbishUP replied to rwbishUP's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
@speed-of-heat I tried it, it actually does use resource from the cpu. It's a small amount, and I can't feel it in play. But, still I'm not willing to give up any headspace for flashy lights. I set up profiles for DCS & XP to just kill all aesthetic effects on launch. In other news, I now have to replace my HOTAS! I use an x56 HOTAS, that I've heavily modded. I went ahead and grabbed the; WINWING Orion2 StrikeAce EX Throttle Combo WINWING Orion2 ViperAce(EX) w/ shaker Joystick Combo I know there are mixed reviews and such, but the only HOTAS I have to compare it too, is my x56. And I know it's better than that, also had to factor in my budget and after doing comparisons, going over reviews and looking at my budget. I just went with all WinWing. plan to upgrade rudder pedals later in the year, Lord willing I'm still kickin. Thoughts?- 31 replies

@speed-of-heat no kidding? I knew RGB effects had a little performance draw, but always thought it would be completely negligible! I'm not a big RGB fan, but I couldn't help myself. And I wanted a higher performance case fan setup. I will setup a lighting profile for DCS, probably just to go dark. Thanks for the info.- 31 replies

Thanks to everyone who helped me in picking the right hardware for my PC build. Anyway, I finally got to run DCS on the new box. And I couldn't be happier. It ran so buttery smooth, even with max graphics settings and drawing multiple demanding modules. It's like playing a new sim compared to the perf of my last PC. And I haven't even moved DCS to the new Samsung 990 Evo m.2, it's still running from my budget m.2! Still waiting on 6 rgb case fans. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction and turning me on to AMDs 9800X3D, it was definitely worth the switch.- 31 replies

Needing Knowledgeable Input On PC Build

So, thanks to every ones help & recommendations, this is what I ended up pulling the trigger on. Checked all dimensions to be sure I would have plenty of space for components and airflow. Had to substitute a somewhat different 5080 card and ended up going with a liquid cooler that had a fairly good customer rating, and a different M.2 module since some of the parts were on back order for unknown time. Wanted to get everything from one retailer for the discount and I'm happy with my past purchases from them. I just hope that I don't get the crazy FPS drop and stutter when I'm near explosions. @TimberWolf, I hear ya. After getting the advice in this topic about the AMD build. I've been looking at outside forums and reviews and it sounds like AMD is going strong right now. Even though I get sick at the idea of dropping so much money on a computer, my hands are tied I guess. It's unbelievable how pricey these components are, I was torn between going big on premium HOTAS and flight controls or building a new rig right now. I can rebuild and repair my flight controls if I need to for a while, so I decided to start with my PC.- 31 replies

Needing Knowledgeable Input On PC Build

Addressing the replies above. Yeah, its is ridiculous how big the cards have gotten to. I was floored when I got my 3080 and saw how big it was. Seeing how I like fabricating and making stuff kinda unique. I'm now thinking about doing a custom case design, with A LOT of fresh airflow. Or, there's a good chance I'll go ahead and switch to a quality liquid cooler now. Yeah that's a good suggestion about the 4tb drive. I'm using a 2tb right now for, DCS. And, I'm down to 640gb of free space on it already. DCS needs to be it's own operating system, lol. I will definitely look into the 9100 Samsung drives, and if it's gonna give me a benefit, I'll make the change. I'll check on the lane sharing of my GPU and NVME, I would have never known that was possible. If that were to have been a performance issue for me, I would have never dreamed of figuring it out! I'm trying to get all the suggestions, because I want to do a reliable build that will give me good performance for a decent amount of time. Without having to be upgrading constantly or worrying about sinking money into a new build after just a year. My rig now, I built in the end of 2018 and I intentionally overbuilt, for the time. And, thankfully it has worked out pretty good. Of course I've upgraded my card to an rtx3080 and cpu to i9-9900, that I bought from friend upgrading their system. And, even with the older specs, it's still really solid and has good performance. But, it's definitely time to update.- 31 replies

Needing Knowledgeable Input On PC Build

I got ya. I haven't picked out a case yet. I've only built 1 custom pc, before that I just used prefabbed store bought rigs. I've never been big on aesthetics, just airflow. I really like the big atx case I have now from NZXT. It gives me a lot of open air space and the way I have all my fans routing. It's really efficient when it comes to the airflow circuit. So I'll probably just use it until I get around to picking another one up for my current hardware. I don't overclock, so hopefully the heat won't get out of hand or I'll definitely switch to a water cooled solution. Or I could do an oil filled case like one that was featured on, Linus Tech Tips once.- 31 replies

Well, @Dragon1-1, @TimberWolf, @speed-of-heat. This is what I just finished putting together on pc_parts_picker, I use it just to get a basis of my parts. I went with the heavier supply because of my, peripherals. But, I made the changes that you three recommended. And if ya'll think this would yield good performance. Good Lord willing, I'm gonna go ahead and start ordering next week and make me a heck of a comfortable place to sleep on the couch .- 31 replies

Thanks again for the useful input @Dragon1-1, @TimberWolf, @speed-of-heat! I'm making the changes right now, and no. I don't care at all about having the rgb mess. I just selected that RAM because it was the first option, lol. I would assume not to have any fancy lighting in my case.- 31 replies

Thanks for the input. I was reading posts from other ppl about the 9800X3D. I've had only two AMD based systems and had less than preferable experiences with them, but that was quite a while back. But, if the community is vouching for AMD and having good luck with them. I would be willing to make the switch. DCS is the primary reason for my PC. I do use it for my 3d design work and to play some other titles like, XP12, BeamNG, Ground Branch. I'll go do some comparison of Intel vs AMD architecture on those titles. If I see that AMD cpu gives good results. I'll definitely make the changes and go with it!- 31 replies

So I'm hopefully getting ready to build a new pc. I'm not trying to break the bank or build a super computer. I just want something that will let me play DCS fairly smoothly, for a little while without having to low ball all of the graphics settings. Could someone with pc hardware knowledge take a look at the components I picked out for my build? And, give input on whether or not, I would get pretty reasonable performance in, DCS? Or on what you would suggest changing? I budgeted myself on between $3-$4k, so a 5090 is not in my wheelhouse. This build puts me around $3,400 before I start price comparing and deal shopping. Thanks

I love the F-4, it's an incredible module. But, seeing as I fly 100% solo, it sits in the hangar 99.9% of the time. I really hope it's implemented in the near future, but so far, ONSG. -
@gulredrel I definitely wouldn't count on it, unless they now try to sell them to us as DLC. Thank goodness we have one or two options brought to us by the great mod packs from, @currenthill.

No fix this week neither, I assume? -
I know, that's what I currently do. But, it would be uber nice to not have to go out, open your kneeboard page template in PS or something, then unzip the mission, insert it, repack the .miz. And if there's something you forgot, want to add or change. You have to do it all again. Opposed to just backing into the ME and throwing it in there real quick.
