The hind will take a bit of experience to land quickly. Here’s the rundown of what I was doing: Like most helos you need to descend at an angle as a best practice, not straight down. Figure out straight down landings later. Eyeball your landing area. Runway, pad, etc. Come in low around 200 meters on approach. Reset trim. Turn off yaw ap if you had used it. Do a break turn like a jet and pitch up to bleed airspeed. Manage collective to maintain and lower altitude. You should get down to around 50kph or so as you’re turning back in to final. Lower gear. Rolling landing or squat landing? If rolling, land like a jet. Gradually increase right pedal as you get slower and lower. You shouldn’t need heavy pedal since you’re landing in ETL. Be prepared to use right pedal before coming to a complete stop. When wheels touch slowly lower collective down and apply brakes. Keep stick back and to right. Come to full stop before trying to taxi. Release brake gently, monitor torque. Push stick forward and taxi. If landing in place, pick your spot at a 30ish degrees down. If your spot is far out and shallow you’ll need to fly forward a bit and maintain speed and altitude. If your spot is too steep below you (like already almost beneath you) then fly around again and create more separation. If your angle is good, pitch up and slowly lower collective about -4 or 5 to start, but as you near ground effect you want to be -2 or 3. PEDAL. Angle your nose left or right so you can see your target spot. Your forward speed should arrest down slowly with altitude and you’ll near 10-15kph as you near ground effect. As you transition to GE you’ll at some point need almost full right pedal to combat the torque. Manage your collective up and down a squirt to keep descent slow. Ive had the hind seemingly “bounce” in and out of GE when trying to land so those last 10 or 20 meters are a bit shaky. Set her down pitch up slightly, back wheels first, slowly lower collective, mindful of how much right pedal you need. When nose comes down apply brake and hold stick back.

Huh weird. Well at any rate I’m glad not updating drivers works for ya. If I don’t keep mine updated then invariably something happens.

cannot reproduce Pedal Input or Trim bug
S. Low replied to S. Low's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Ok that answers the last part about the tune menu for the axes, I never noticed it before but apparently it’s normal. But as I stated I’m doing the quick play weapons range mission, which is a hot start on the ground. And each time I load in I’m randomly getting controls helper on, and off. Each time I load in I’m randomly having pedals locked/trimmed fully in one direction or the other, or not trimmed at all. This cannot be normal behavior Yaw AP is off at the start -
Problems with Pedals? (Slow response)
S. Low replied to Lurker's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
It sounds like he ^^ might be getting the same rudder input bug that I described in my post here. This needs stickied at the top of the main hind topic listing so we all understand how the trim works, pedal dampening works, and the collective brake works. (Though I still think the rudder input is bugged). -
I saw the thread in the regular topic listing was marked as solved and a FAQ was posted, but I don't believe this is solved. I'm copying pasting what I just posted in that thread: Someone suggested checking on/off the Rudder Trim and Control Helper options multiple times in the menu to see if it worked after. It actually did work with the controls helper (presumably thats the option where you start with the controls at the top of the screen). But it didn't change the rudder trim. I start with pedals solidly left, and it is not in stable flight as suggested. I'm banking to the left due to heavy pedal input from the start. Trim reset fixes this. This was on Syria - Free flight. LOL ok so some more testing right after the above, I did Syria weapons range. This time the game started me with the controls helper back on, and my pedals also off center while on the pad. I immediately torqued around and crashed while sitting on the pad. I saved the track. I clicked Fly Again. THIS time I started but I held my hand brake. Didn't need to though, because this time I started with the Controls thingy off, and my pedals were centered! WHAT lol. Ok, save track. Try again. The Controls helper thingy is BACK UP TOP and my pedals are depressed to the left again. I'm so confused. Here's the last track. It wouldn't let me post them all. Edit: Went back to menu for a few minutes, then tried Syria - Weapons range again. I selected the ATGM hind. I held the brake lever while clicking out of the briefing menu. Controls are at the top, and my rudder pedals are still trimmed to the left but not nearly as far as other times. ????? Edit 2: Went back to main menu, controls, removed my -15 curve on my pedals. Went back into Syria Weapons Range, ATGM Hind. Didn't hold any buttons or levers. Pedals aren't trimmed this time, controls helper windows are gone. Quit out, clicked fly again. ATGM. LOL PEDALS trimmed FULL to the right at spawn. No control helper windows at top. My game is haunted. I went into the game and was looking at my axis curves for my rudder. Almost every time I clicked on the "tune" for my rudder axis it had my rudder input wayyyyyy over to the left even though I wasnt doing this. Touching the pedals then restored the position. The game is setting my pedals off for some reason. hindpedaltest 4.trk

Well... i don't understand. Why aren't you updating your nvidia driver?

Yes. I'm up to 466.77 now. I had one that was a couple days older apparently.

correct as-is Very low grip on the rear wheels
S. Low replied to malcheus's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
I think it has to do with the forward tilting rotor. That's my guess. You can hold handbrakes until takeoff -
I updated my driver. SSAA 2.0 is up to 50 from 30. SSAA 1.5 works again and doesn't erase the aircraft anymore like it was on the previous patch. SSAA 1.5 puts my FPS around 60-70. I think I'm good then.

The rudder yaw that keeps from flying straight
S. Low replied to FoxxyTrotty's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
"Why is aircraft yaw so difficult to control? When you first enter an air-start mission, the controls are set to a stable setting to avoid going out of control. You can then reset the controls or adjust based on their starting position. Also, if you have the Yaw channel of the Auto Pilot engaged, let it control rudder input in straight and level flight / hover and don’t fight against it." From the FAQ just posted. There's SOMETHING off, somewhere. Because the airstart puts you into a hard left yaw and not into a stable flight setting. Just like how some of us are getting our pedals "stuck" after start up or take off or somewhere. -
Shark trimmer is different, you hold it then release. Hind is more like Huey/mi8 where you press and release the trim button like a regular button press to set it. Though I can't describe to you the exact way each of these aircraft trim types differ. You could probably hold the stick back about half, and significantly to the right, then trim and release and you'll be in a good spot to start feeling out the take-off if you want to take-off in trim.

The rudder yaw that keeps from flying straight
S. Low replied to FoxxyTrotty's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
If I hop onto Syria free flight I'm seeing I think part of the rudder issue that we're getting. The pic example 1 (bottom pic, sorry I loaded them in wrong order) shows the pedals as soon as I take control. My physical pedals are neutral, I don't have Rudder Trim option enabled (it is not checked, it's disabled), and the Yaw AP isn't on when you start this quick start mission, yet the pedal sticks to the left. I can move my pedals but they adjust from this trimmed position. When I press trim reset, the pedals return to neutral in game. So what my guess is, is that some of us are getting these pedals to trim like this by mistake. Whether it is a bug or not, I don't know for certain. -
I think it's the SSAA (and it was causing issues a couple weeks ago with a bug requiring people to bump up from 1.5 to 2.0). If I leave everything the same, but turn off SSAA, and turn on MSAA to 4 (Syria Free Flight quick start mission) my FPS will be around 60-70 when I take control. At MSAA 2 the FPS is 70-80. But if I turn off MSAA and turn on SSAA to 2.0, the FPS goes down to 30-40. But before the hind I had SSAA at 2.0 and was getting much higher frames.

Hah. I suggest controls to a guy that has set up a guide for them. I’ll see myself out.

The thought of editing missions always gets my ocd flaring and then I just don’t do it. Would be cool if we could get a pack of template missions (sparse, medium, dense) that already have several airfields on both “sides” populated realistically, that way when we go to make our own missions we just add field units and set behavior of craft on the airfields. Is that doable?
-
I know for a fact my preload was like 150,000. But I was getting 70fps before the hind. I’ll just post my stuff when I get home but now I’m curious, what benefit is there to a higher preload
-
You set this mission up? Can you check what your starting altitude is, starting speed, starting fuel state? Maybe there’s an issue in the setup can you get the quick play free flight missions to work? also your collective controls could be reversed. Check the inverse option and try that Edit: also if you’re new to helos, don’t bind the “throttle.” That shouldn’t be moved in flight
-
Also landing is very neat, takes finesse and is quite different. The forward tilted rotor makes the thing not want to stop, so you need quite a bit of pitch to stop forward movement. And then you have no visibility so you really need to approach the pad at an angle. I can see why it was landed like a plane. I was able to do that no issue lol Lmao

Yeah I found that wheel/parking brakes were all but required with the hind. But the instability is radically different than the Huey, shark, and mi8. All of those I can lift off fairly quickly and make corrections. Although the mi8 has some of this instability in takeoff it seems easier to tame. The hind is the first one where I have to really really go easy on the collective for take off. It’s new to me. Though the hind is an attack helo , takeoff and landing aren’t the focus. Huey has to be able to get off skids quickly edit: and to be clear, I’m smooth on the collective on all these birds. I’m not yanking it up and expecting wizardry

Will do so this evening

Did an nvidia driver update come out last night and some of us missed it? Worth checking . Oh and I’m not talking an 8-10 FPS hit. Mine was like 30. I even started lowering some more settings but it didn’t matter

I thought I was being gentle but... wait you’re walking me into a joke aren’t you lol
