Well no, I try to identify a threat, approach and once in range, fire then break away. But in particular the server I play on has a lot of near-peer type threats so if Pete doesn't see a target and I end up getting accidentally within AAA range then bad things happen. But damage is very inconsistent which I guess is realistic based on what combat vets have said so whatever, but sometimes I can absorb a chunk of fire, and other times I'm going down in flames from a single shot. My primary irritation here is that I'm losing absolute control the aircraft. I should be able to auto-rotate or use the aerodynamics of the aircraft to try and dive down and slide or something. The silly out of control wobble is just frustrating. But I've yet to find the AP 30mm useful at all. Having to be pinpoint precise with the nose gun is just no where near as effective as having HE. And to utilize the rockets I need to basically get direct hits, and always within range of return fire which regularly puts my aircraft out of commission, whether I break hard and level or break hard and dive down to try and get behind tree line. I prefer FLYING the hind to the shark. I just want the weapons to be better and the damage model to be better lol. Basically I want the apache

ugh it's just so frustrating taking one 12.7 round while I'm at like 2000ft , not hearing anything, and just poof I'm on fire and spinning literally out of control. Can't auto rotate or use the winglets to dive down or anything. Back to spawn to come out and try again, but the only thing I can use that's semi-effective is the ATGM which has just slightly longer range than the gaz hot3. The nose gun is *almost* useless. I need to let it sit for awhile before I get mad at it. Just go back to flying the ka-50 etc.

The age and style of gunship is just exacerbated by the stuff I mentioned in the OP, especially the AP ammo instead of HE for the 30mm cannon, and lack of frag damage with the rockets. I hopped back in the ka-50 and the 30mm is very effective even without the properly modeled frag damage because the concussion damage is enough to give it a slight area of effect capability, so at 4km I can lob rounds and hit trucks or light armor and take it out. If the Hind's 30mm cannon had HE ammo, with how stable and accurate it is, wew lad, it'd be really destructive.

It’s difficult to go back and fly the other helos because I’m enjoying the hind so much, but I do switch back because of some aggravations with the hind. Here’s the main list for me: 1) 30mm nose cannon needs HE rounds 2) you need to implement a frag damage system to go along with your concussion damage system. The majority of the gunship experience relies on area effect weapons 3) I know you’re working on petrovich but he really needs a couple big improvements: iff, better target Identification range, and wider scan area. 4) I know damage model is WIP, I’m just saying module quality will increase a lot with improved damage. Taking a couple rounds and then having the aircraft start wobbling uncontrollably while it dives for the earth isn’t great. It’s either that or my pilot dies and I have no idea that my pilot is dead. I did have a left engine get damaged once and cause reduced RPMs which required a rolling landing, that was awesome. 5) a few specific bugs like multicrew desync causing tail boom to fall off, and AP/ trim bug 6) quality of life improvement to change radio presets via knee board or ground crew comms at base I think that’s all of them.. There are other imperfections but this list affects me every time I fly the hind. It’s a great module but these improvements will make it legendary edit: 7) trees block rockets and missiles

Can “short up” be “scan wide” like a radar sweep within maybe a hud-sized box around where you select, and then make it a “long up” press to scan narrow like it is now? I just want an option to have Pete scan a larger area. Human gunner can be unzoomed and scan quickly, or even be out of the sight and scan, both of which are much faster than what petrovich can do currently

Saved me the trouble of doing tests, thanks

Chain gun: Effective engagement ranges?
S. Low replied to Hummingbird's topic in Military and Aviation
Regardless, I really hope they get the frag damage implemented otherwise the 30mike won’t quite be what it’s supposed to be. -
Engineer: drill this like this me: probably won’t work engineer: I want it done me: ok.... *doesnt work* I imagine this is the interaction between pilot and crew chief

I'm not sure if the track will show it or not. At the end of the track I've dropped from 70fps to 5fps. Sometimes it happens on the gaz when I start, other times it waits a few moments. I don't even know where to begin with this. I swapped the gaz with the hind and the hind ran fine. So is this a gaz bug? A mission editor bug? Or have I screwed up some logic that is causing a serious issue? gazelleframelosstrk.trk

I would love to get these aircraft in dcs.

After the Gazelle, buy another Polychop Helo worth the risk?
S. Low replied to marcoscosta's topic in Polychop-Simulations
I found this video useful and am enjoying the gaz now for what it is. The pilot who did fly a gaz (341) as part of training says the FM needs some work, but the main culprit that keeps people from enjoying the gaz is the cyclic bug and a misunderstanding of light helos. So you get the acknowledgment that the FM isn’t accurate and needs a good bit of work, but the module is still fun as long as you adjust the saturation levels of the cyclic. Personally I also made the rudder pedal Y saturation more sensitive. And you fly with micro inputs, and should rest your arm/hand so that you’re only using your wrist and fingers to use the cyclic -
Transition from free flying to ground effect is quite violent.
S. Low replied to Frag's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Well I can’t say if it’s all 100% modeled correctly but yes the transition from ETL to GE is going to require a power increase and then a power decrease. You need to modulate the collective as casmo would say. Heres a good video on it: https://youtu.be/obENn8hraoc -
Thanks for letting us know

I seem to be loosing my wings way too often. 🤔
S. Low replied to swartbyron's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Their response is going to be “damage model is wip” We’ve got basic damage and external modeling for now. Is what it is -
I don't see this in known issues or posted yet. I've had this happen at least 4 times doing multicrew, once right after takeoff, and 3 times in flight at various flight times. The tailboom just pops off and we crash. I think two of the times my gunner was also disconnected from the server. I have a track file but it's too big I guess.

I heard through the grapevine that ED has more helos in the works. They were previously working on or talking about working on the cobra. After the Apache releases into EA soonish, they may start production of the ah-1. also they know that people want the Blackhawk so I’m sure it’s planned down the road. Money talks. They’ve kinda exhausted their jets aside from the phantom and full fidelity redfor. In my mind I believe a good plan would be to set a schedule for updated modeling of their various jets and old helos to make some money interspersed between working on a bunch of helos like the cobra, blackhawk, little bird

I have to say you should buy the mission and not the airframe. Normally I’d just say go get the Huey because it is simple to operate and teaches you all the basics of whirlybirds , but I’ve been convinced to change my thinking. if you come from janes and are in to gunships, I don’t think you’ll enjoy the Huey as much as the ka50 or the hind. The ka50 shark will prep you for the Apache and I’m assuming you’ll want to jump on that. The ka50 will fly mostly like a jet too once you understand the autopilots and trim, so most of what you’ll be doing is managing your optics and weapons. It has several campaigns and lots of content, updating cockpit and great audio. Honestly I think ka50 is where you should go if you love gunships edit: to clarify, if you want general utility like transport plus gunning then go for Huey. If you want utility with extra challenge in landing go with mi-8. If you want scouting go with gaz. If you want Hunter/killer gunship go with ka50. If you want aerial artillery and fun multicrew go with hind.

I absolutely use English cockpits. I don’t think this has anything to do with realism. But if someone wants to self restrict then go for it, though it’s not very realistic to fly an aircraft that you can’t read I don’t think. i prefer to map controls as similar to the real controls as possible. They are usually very well designed and thought out as to the positioning

Are you asking to do a long term hover while you use the optics? You’re going to have to use the auto hover I’m sure. Manual however requires constant focus. my control curves are: cyclic x/y axes +10 curve , no dead zone, no saturation changes collective: default, no changes Pedals: -15 curve, +4 deadzone, no other changes I didn’t like the gaz when I first bought it a year or so ago. Just tried it again last night and I’m enjoying it Even with the curves though I was flying with just index finger and thumb on the cyclic doing gentle inputs, unless I did a harsh maneuver like a j hook. I can hover just fine

DCS Mi-24P feels very twitchy
S. Low replied to Hummingbird's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Cyclic x/y axes curves +10. (No stick extension) Collective no curve Rudder -15 curve It feels good here, seems realistic. Sensitive but not too sensitive for a big bus. Also note that the shark has full on autopilot whereas the hind autopilot channels have less control -
Not going to put this in bugs because I forgot a track file and not sure if it’s bug in general. Was doing multicrew flying last night using lantirn pod. I was rio. I had target in an area track, pilot pickled, I lazed. Pilot was looking at flir on screen as well. Pilot could see bomb explode on target looking through flir, but on my screen nothing happened. Pilot could also see smoke from target by looking out cockpit but for me it wasn’t smoking or destroyed. We dropped another bomb on the same target and this time I did see it explode. Any ideas on that first bomb? A DCSism or a desync with f14 multicrew? I’m new to using f14 multicrew

Damage model is WIP. Be glad we have damage at all.
