Nvidia 8800gts + 2.6 AMD Dual Core =
VMFA-Blaze replied to 3Sqn_Fudd's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Bro: you just spent all of that loot on an upgrade why not spend an addional 20 bucks and get the whole package ... Then you'll be able to judge for your self... :rotflmao: But I'll give you one small hint anyway, The damage model has improved a lot with the addon... ~S~ Blaze -
I running a Samsung TFT 32"... I've had it for 6 months, this is most likely the best picture available. And the size is awsome, when you fly Lock On or what ever game that you choose to enjoy the Screen is almost life like, Its well beyond movie quality Allso, it was also jointly developed by Microsoft and Samsung to use with X Box applications, so that should give you an idea just how good this one is ... It has a very clear and bright picture I throughly recommend it.... ~S~ Blaze

Building a new rig for LOBS and Vista
VMFA-Blaze replied to VMFA-Blaze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, but the TIR issue should be sorted out though before the release of the Vista.... And it is good news to hear that the Creative card has a new driver... I see that you have an Ageia Physx pi card installed in your system, you have very good taste in hardware.. But will this actually work now with the available software? Or have you installed this for future applications? I must say that I'm very much interested in that card myself.... As it stands now I think were now going to have to wait now untill the software developers cach up to the newest hardware .... I know that and again I've heard through the grapevine that Ed is considering writeing in dual core format, but this is most likely a long way off .. I'm installing a 7900Gt GPU for now allthough I'm very much interested in the 8800, but I'm going to wait a little while to see how it stacks up with the release of DX10... ~S~ Blaze -
As far as we all know ED has stated from a number posts from several months ago that they are in the process of developing a new engine.. And it will be implemented after the Lock On series is completed... And its not just this developer thats working on a new engine, Maddox games will also have a clean new engine with the release of BOB.. Then theres a new developer thats working on a release date with a brand new engine, GT and this flight sim is about WWI and is called Knights Of The Sky, the engine being implemented is called Strick. And also lets not forget Fighter OPs, even though this Sim has an older engine as a basis it has from my understanding been allmost entirely rewritten for this new project... So as you can see Flight Sim Developers I'm sure are quite aware if these on going issues and have it seems begun to move in a new direction... ~S~ Blaze

Building a new rig for LOBS and Vista
VMFA-Blaze replied to VMFA-Blaze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Ok I'm going with Windows XP Pro with the Vista upgrade, I ordered it from Newegg, that was the best price... And I also ordered a Zalman CNPS9500, This one got the best reviews on Frostytech... I was informed that my MB has been shipped so it looks like I'm starting the build on the weekend... ~S~ Blaze -
Building a new rig for LOBS and Vista
VMFA-Blaze replied to VMFA-Blaze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Excellant idea "MY MAN".... I know that your right about all of the problems that are about to erupt with the advent of this new operating system.. As far as upgradeing though, for me it was time.. I was haveing issues trying to run some of the newer simulators and the next generation of simulators is just around the bend, so it had to be done .. Anyway this new processors should be ok for the new simulators and at least another year or two... ~S~ Blaze -
Well there's the very steep learning curve thats required to be able to really get involved in this community... And then there's the large amount of capital that you have to expend evey 2 years or so on new hardware... I mean that in itself narrows the field, most 14 to 18 year olds don't really have the time or money to invest here... But I personally have been witnessing a comeback of the flight simulator over the last 5 years or so. I know that here in the states were experienceing an ageing population... As the gamers begin to mature there interest become more sophisticated and they begin looking for more sustance in their gameing experiences... They also begin to aquire more wealth, allowing them to spend more money on there hobbies.. There are certainly more Flight Simulator appearing on the horizon than there have been for years... But the issues here are the amount of time it really takes to produce a High Fidelity Simulator is vast, there are at least three or four that have had to put back there release dates because of the lack resources available for completion .. So I'm in total agreement with previous statements concerning the priceing issue's. Why not raise them from 40.00 or 50.00 USD to 100.00 to 125.00 USD, I think that this is only fair considering the amount of effort that goes into this type of product. This should financially enable the developer's to hire more staff and maybe then we'll see a more rapid development rate... This will increase the amount of product that will be available and even maybe allow developers to release their simulators on DVD's and have more advertising plans ect.. What about Software Developers tying there product in with the Hardware? This also might help increase volume and add to their bottom line.. Look at the Fatal1y line thats now being offered all over the internet. This was a very well thought out idea and should certainly add momentum to the entire gameing industry... Here in the Flight Sim Community something along these lines could also be developed I'm sure.. Anyway these are some of my thoughts on this matter :smilewink: ~S~ Blaze

Building a new rig for LOBS and Vista
VMFA-Blaze replied to VMFA-Blaze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well, while I'm waiting for parts to arrive that are needed to start building my next system, I decided to run the Windows Upgrade Advisor on my old system, and found the same listing that you mentioned regarding Natural Point, It seems that Windows Vista has no information listed for TrackIR 4 ... Hopefully Natural Point will get this sorted out before Jan. 20th 2007.. There were simular issues with the release FSX beta, and it took some before I was able to use my device in that simulator... Another device thats not yet recognized is my Creative X-Fi Audio processor, this is another thing I really hate to have to do without in the next system generation.. On the good side and I know that this is very controversial, is the fact that My Cougar HOTAS is recognized, I know a lot of guys in this world were very concerned about this myself included, seeing as I just spent about 1K getting this controller system optimized to my likeing.... WHOOOOOH!!!! Things here are really becomming quite interesting indeed..... :megalol: ~S~ Blaze -
Building a new rig for LOBS and Vista
VMFA-Blaze replied to VMFA-Blaze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks bro, I know what you mean, I've heard the same thing.. I'm not sure but i think if you have only 1 gig of ram you can only run the Vista basic, with 2 gigs you can run the premium edition??? So anyway I have Corsair XMS 2 GB DDR2 twin 2X Matched Memory Pair, it has the Platinum Heat spreader with the green led's on the top.. Iguana : I was thinking along those lines as well did you checkout this site http://www.frostytech.com they listed the ZalmanCNPS9700 as the best fan that they ever tested.. :smilewink: ~S~ Blaze -
Got bored and turned to the dark side.
VMFA-Blaze replied to Pilotasso's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Yeah... I went to that side about 3 months ago.... The avionics for the F-16 are modeled a lot better then there flight model and of course the graphics aren't to good... I added the high tiles mod as well as DrStops pits Block 50, MLF... The mods do help a little, and I enjoy the the avionics, its actually fun once you get the hang of it.... Still Lock On IMHO is better, but until the F-15 radar is fixed and ED brings out the F-16 I'll fly both of them.. The graphics in Falcon are really holding it back from being any true competition here, even though I do like it... ~S~ Blaze -
I'm now building a new system for the next level... I've got a question and I've been all over the Internet and haven't been able to get an answer.. I'm going with an intel Core 2 Duo E6600 with an Asus P5N32-E SLI motherboard ... This board by the way for some reason is very hard to find right now.... I did finally order it from Mwave and they do have it in stock, so it should arrive sometime this week .... Well I haven removed the processor from the plastic yet (I don't want to take a chance on damaging it)... So I had a look at the instructions which by the way are not very detailed... IT just doesn't explain if I'm going to need to apply thermal past or is there actually a pad that's been applied to the back of the CPU... Could someone that's already installed one of these please enlighten me as to whats going on ....:detective_2: ~S~ Blaze

Rudder pedals for the Cougar?
VMFA-Blaze replied to Odin_Norway's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The Vaio is great in this sim as well as any other sim that you might want to play... Lock On doesn't support toe brakes now (but who knows, Ed might decide to add this feature in the future)... Actually you can purchase Vario and add the F-16 upgrade later on if you decide to... One thing though these are high quality pedals and are actually custom made (not mass produced) by one man in Germany.. So takeing that into consideration, there is a waiting period ... Check out Frugals web site, theres a thread that is specifally set up for order satus and information regarding Simpeds... I've had mine for quite a while and really love 'em..... ~S~ Blaze -
Lock-on flamming cliffs new sim?
VMFA-Blaze replied to Dice's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Come on, really !!!! I mean no disrespect but I was sort of a Nub when Lock On was first released and you had your fingers all over it... :surprise: Aren't you actually the father of the Wart Hog..:notworthy: Anyway I'm glad to see you back Dice, how are things in the Air Force these days.... ~S~ Blaze -
After reading the specks of the Asus P5W DU Deluxe a little more closely I've had a change of heart, this board really isn't what I want for Flat Out Gameing and I personally think that a better choise will be the Asus P5N32-E SLI as I prefere to use Nvidia, so I'm going with the 7900 for now and when direct X 10 comes out I'll go with the 8800 in SLI or what ever is available at that time as I think its better to wait in this case... Of course prices should be more reasonable at that time..... ~S~ Blaze

Both XP Home and Pro will support Core Duo but I recommend going with XP Pro OEM as it will allow you to add the Vista Preimium upgrade, and its really just marginally more expensive... I have read various posts from different gammers stateing that XP Home is all that is required for operating Core 2 Duo, But personally even though I have 2 PC's with a home network installed I'm looking for the higher security features that come with Vista preimium and the addional fuctionality's of this OS... ~S~ Blaze

Yes my System is beginning to show its age... The other night I was Trying out one of the missions in FSX. Well it actually turned into a real slide show and then froze (and this is with all of the tweaks applied...) (Present System specks, AMD 64 3200, Asus K8V Se Deluxe, Kingston DDR400 1 Gib, XFX 6800 Ultra, Antec 480 True Blue PS... I've heard from the grapevine that B/S will bring your system to its knees.... Hummm ! I think I've been here before.. Well its time for another upgrade so I broke out the old credit card and went shopping.. :sly: I know that a lot of guy's always recommend Newegg, but personally over the years I have found that they're not always the best.. What I like to use is a comparison shopping sight like Bizrate or Pricegrabbers.. So this time I used Zip Zoom Fly as they had the best prices for most of the items that I bought.. Intel Dual Core Duo E6600, Asus P5W DH Deluxe( this board got high rateings from Anantec), Corsair Dual Channel DDR2 800 2 Gib.... And from Newegg (because this was the best price, Windows XP Pro OEM with the Vista Premium Upgrade the cost is actually 20 USD S/H..:hehe: The graphics card that I went with is XFX 7900 GS, this is really very cheap in comparison to the original price ... The new 8800gtx for DX10 I passed on, as DX10 will not be included in Lock On B/S, and DX10 is not backwards compatible. Anyway I might decide to eventually go with the cross fire system... But for now there is a possibility the Dual Core will be utilized by ED in the future and this CPU can be used presently, as you can disable one core and still get very high FPS... It just stands to reason.... ~S~ Blaze

You actually mean that you had doubts about the purchase... With how many post's 2,044... :megalol: How are you Bro.... ~S~ Blaze

Yes I'm going to have to upgrade ... My system is 2 yrs old ... AMD 64 3200 Asus K8V SE Deluxe XFX 6800 Ultra 256 I Gig RAM Antec 480W True Blue Track IR 4 I'm running FSX on... Graphic: Ultra High Aircraft: High Scenery: High Weather: Med High Traffic: Very Low These settings are some what acceptable without TIR 4 With TIR 4 this sim becomes a little unstable, but I don't know if I want to lower the settings down any more then this. IMO its not worth the effort to try and run this on lower settings. I'm going to wait until Vista gets released and replace the processor, mother board and GPU and I'll be adding 2 gigs of memory at that time... So that should be around Jan. 30th 2007.... And I'm still researching what hardware I'll be getting at that time.. I do know that this time around I'm going with Intel Dual core for my processor, but I'm staying with NVidia and Asus... Anyway I'm fine for the moment, and I think that its a better option to wait for the upgrade.. As far as your system EscCtrl, you should be good but you might consider adding another GIG of RAM.... Also you might want to go to http://www.Simhq.com and check out BeachAv8r report on FSX his system is similar to yours... ~S~ Blaze

VMFA-Blaze replied to SebTom's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The editing here is outstanding...... The Vid has some awsome action sequences, and at extremley high resolution..... Its also very funny..... this is an A+ ~S~ Blaze -
Save your files first so that you don't lose any more data... and then install the O/S..... Personally I have a network set up with file shareing, and have all of my Lockon files there... If I have any problems and have to reinstall the O/S... I just pull up all of the Lock On keys ect.from the file shareing folder... This has worked for me 3 times this year  and has helped relieve some of the head aches of reformatting .... ~S~ Blaze
