I'd put DCS on the back burner since 2.5 because I've a modest system and absolutely cannot stand aliasing. However I've decided enough was enough recently and dived back to see if I could get MSAA at at least 2x playable. Sure enough I found that the shadow setting is what is killing FPS when used with MSAA. So I'm fine with no shadows and can run at a semi reasonable 30-40fps (I still remember running Flanker 2 @12fps and marvelling at that.) I've 16gb of RAM - the Black Sea is perfect with that amount. However the Persian Gulf is unplayable for me, constant mem swapping to disk. All that said the Biggest Single upgrade you can make for DCS is an SSD. Nate

If the updating was smoother over a shorter period of time it would be very good, but as it is now it is too jarring and unnatural. You can disable it in the Options. Cockpit Global illumination - IIRC the option seems to be counter intuitive, On = Off. Nate

I wonder can we adjust the responsiveness of the TDC cursor when using buttons? It is horrible to use right now. I find the acceleration of the cursor far to slow. Nate

Wouldn't mind c0ff or Chizh, just to get the nuts and bolts architecture of DCS, and maybe how it has evolved over time from Flanker (if Chizh was around back then) Also the vision for the future DCS architecture. I see hints of a general Server/Client model being pursued, but overall it'd be nice to know a bit of technical detail as to how it all hooks together (not that I'm at all technical when it comers to programming). Couldn't agree more, Jaggies and Shimmering textures in the distance have ruined the look of DCS for me. Seriously considering a 1080ti (or one of the upcoming cards) just to run 2x MSAA at acceptable speeds. :( Nate

I had an issue with FRAPS crashing 2.5.1 (but not 2.5). Also see if you have anything else running that uses an overlay on the screen. My logs would end at the exact same place as yours. Nate

OK after a bit of further sleuthing I've discovered that a fresh windows profile will run 2.5.1.......... Since none of the modules were activated on the fresh profile, I've uninstalled them to test on the main profile. No Dice. Hmmm what about running apps on the main profile? FRAPS hooks into DirectX does it not? Oh yes it does! I can confirm that FRAPS v 3.5.2 (of 2012 vintage) will crash 2.5.1. Updating to FRAPS 3.5.99 doesn'twork either. Took a while but I'm up and running for definite now. many thanks for the help along the way. Nate

Damn, no it's still broken. I'd reverted the wrong copy of DCS world to 2.5, so I was in 2.5 not 2.5.1. I can now verify 2.5 runs perfectly and that 2.5.1 crashes every time before initialising the main menu, with both versions side by side on the computer. Nate
