  1. Just fyi but that is how I have been running my Aero and fairly pleased with it. No worries with modding anything. Hopefully ED corrects this for the Aero in the next Open Beta update, will see.
  2. Sounds promising thanks for the update. I am just waiting on release version here.
  3. Yeah I am thinking it is more the Normandy Map than anything, that combined with running in VR. I kept lowering resolution and have it somewhat acceptable now however there are still brief moments the fps will plummet into the single digits and an all out stutter fest. Thankfully it only lasts a few moments and then comes back up to 45 fps. Both The Big Show and Beware Beware (both running on Channel Map) ran a consistent 45 fps for the most part with some much higher graphics and resolution settings. Maybe Normandy 2 when it releases will be better. In the meantime I have three missions under my belt now in Epsom so going to keep trying to play through it best I can. Epsom has been out a while I think and I can only imagine how bad it must have run in VR a couple of years or so ago.
  4. You don't need Open XR in order to be able to read cockpit text. You just need to run the higher resolution and adjust your settings to give a constant 45+ fps. I set mine to run locked at 45 fps in Varjo Base to give me a pretty smooth experience and some additional head room. I run Varjo Base at the High setting and Steam VR resolution upwards of 80-90% depending on aircraft and map used.
  5. Well whether it is worth the high price is a very subjective thing depending on the individual. For me it was. And yes I run Varjo Base along with Steam VR. It does not have a lot of vertical FOV, but imho makes up for it in the image clarity department.
  6. You can be up and running in Steam VR in no time. Lot of folks apparently like getting way into the weeds with things hence the Open XR Developer Tools their party software and all the additional settings one can set in it. I personally just run my Aero with Steam VR and very much enjoy the simplicity.
  7. Well I gave it as good a shot as I am willing to give. Epsom campaign is a total dog in the performance department. I greatly reduced graphics and resolution to try and get this to run ok for me in VR and it is just a total stutter fest of a mess. Yes I also tried removing extra units with the F10 Other menu and still performance was horrible. And if I am not mistaken this came out a few years ago when even 4090 GPU's weren't even a thought - and I have one now. The Big Show and Beware Beware were much smoother with much greater detail with my gfx settings with the Channel Map. Epsom I will have to virtually shelve, not worth it. That is ok time for me to get back in the Hornet saddle to stay fresh with it as well.
  8. To confuse us lol.
  9. Gave the first mission of Epsom a try - whoa going to have to make some big changes in my resolution/graphics settings before I can run this campaign, VR performance with Normandy is really poor. Channel Map was much better with Beware Beware and The Big Show.
  10. Thanks much for the feedback! Will have a go with it.
  11. Like I said - I found 14 pages of briefing notes to be a bit overwhelming. My first two campaign I mentioned had like 3 or 4 pages of briefing notes. I will watch this hour long video when I get time tomorrow thanks.
  12. Ok so I have now flown both The Big Show and Beware! Beware! campaigns and have thoroughly enjoyed both. I have the Epsom Campaign and thought I would do it next - however just reading all the 14 pages of briefing notes for the first mission alone has me feeling quite overwhelmed. Any other good recommendations for campaigns for the Spit? Other than these three not much turns up in the searches I have done. Or is the Epsom Campaign not quite as intimidating as it looks?
  13. This looks - amazing.
  14. @BIGNEWY . Will this be fixed in the next Open Beta Update where Varjo Aero users no longer need this wrapper to use their Aero in Open XR with DCS?
  15. Well I finally received my nice Virpil order on Saturday from the Virpil USA store - which is not far from me so once they shipped it was only a day to get it to me. Nice new Virpil CM3 stick base, Alpha Prime metal grip , and 200 mm extension along with a desk mount for it all. After several hours now doing some campaign flying in the Spitfire I must say wow, I really love this thing. So precise and so smooth - and the biggest feature which motivated me to get it - the adjustability of the springs and the clutches from the outside of the base! Very nice indeed!. I think I have pretty much settled on the standard spring and soft center Avia cams. Have the springs and clutches adjusted to where it just feels very nice to me. I will likely experiment more with the adjustments and cams down the road but right now just want to keep on flying with this baby. Needless to say I am extremely pleased so far with this setup. I would have to say that CM3 gimbal design is one of the best out there currently.
  16. Not me, I still have to have my 2x MSAA and that even in the higher resolution Aero. It just makes things look so much better to me.
  17. I would not consider Pico a serious contender until they opened up a NA market. And yeah provide a native display port connection and quit with this compressing signals through USB crap. If they want to do stand alone fine, let them do a seperate standalone device in addition to a native PC-VR device. Like the original Rift and Quest devices.
  18. Thanks much I am sure that will be a big help! I think I have been being a bit too timid with my engine when climbing.
  19. Ok so next time I tried it was the charm, have now successfully completed sortie 4. I must have somehow missed the AI climbing like crazy once we got over the channel. I managed to keep them in sight this time, albeit they kept increasing the distance between us. No matter how hard I try I just can not climb at the same angle and speed as the AI can. I try to maintain an angle that gives me app 165 Mph but even at that the AI just keeps increasing the distance between us.
  20. I am not having a lot of luck with sortie 4. First few attempts my flight just kept circling the airfield well past the time to set course. Then one time it worked and my flight set course appropriately, however after we got to the channel to cross my whole flight just - dissapeared and were no where to be seen. Anyone experience this with this mission? Or if someone could check it for me would be very grateful. I am going to keep trying but I have no idea what happened to cause my whole flight to just dissappear like that...
  21. Also Pico 4 limited to certain countries, not available in NA.
  22. I am sure Meta loves this news as the only other mid to low range device is their Quest 2.
  23. IIRC those same settings can be made in Steam VR as well.
  24. That is my line of thinking. By making that change in Steam VR you are telling it to be the default Open XR runtime rather than Varjo runtime when a game is calling upon Open XR to run. And that comes from adding in the Open XR nomenclature to the DCS shortcut.
  25. Yes I believe so. Obviously you put the nomenclature --force_OpenXR in the DCS.exe shortcut properties. I wanted to have two shortcuts for DCS, one for native Steam VR and one for Steam VR's Open XR runtime, so I created another shortcut to DCS.exe and renamed it to DCS.exe.SteamOpenXR. In the shortcut properties for it I have the --force_OpenXR.
