  1. Buddywhatshisname at Hardware Canucks did some "creative math" with the posted benchmarks of everything that is out there now against what AMD is saying about the 7900 XTX against the 6950XT... performance somewhere between 4080 and 4090 is the projection. We'll see - sounds optimistic.
  2. Yes. Migration to DX12 should have happened 5 years ago.
  3. NVIDIA peeps, update your drivers. Apparently the latest driver gives a big uplift on DX12 - but of course that doesn't help us on DCS (DX11). How much tech debt is Eagle Dynamics dragging behind itself again...?
  4. Map datum issue? Does it do the same for you on Caucasus?
  5. @Eagle Dynamics Could we get a fictitious WWII version of the Caucasus map? I don't know if it would be a heavy lift... Delete all the existing modern airport statics and textures... Throw down some grass/dirt field textures and old looking statics in their place... encroach the really wide open resultant airfield spaces with more trees so it's a bit more realistic looking. Tweak the remaining, obviously really out of place statics throughout the map... Go to EA. Refine with user feedback... No need to delete/modify the towns and cities other than removing stuff like modern comms towers and such - the obviously out of place stuff. Could refine it further in the future for historical accuracy. For a free map based, WW2 experience on a server a lot of people don't care so much about historical accuracy as long as it looks like a WWII environment... you know? More about convincing game play. Just a thought.
  6. Even just the Caucasus map in a WWII variant would be good enough IMO - and a relatively easy lift for @Eagle Dynamics. Well, easier said than done I suppose. I'm not up on the historical battles that may have been fought in the Caucasus region but just having a map set in the correct time zone is fine enough. I'm not one for "re-enactment" so don't care that much about repeating history in a simulator. I get why some people like to do that though. Normandy and The Channel are fine but more varied terrains are more entertaining for making hypothetical experiences IMO. Mildly quizzical why Caucasus WWII doesn't already exist TBH. Let's not go down that rabbit hole here and ruin this thread. Annnyyyywayyyysssszzz.... LA-7 - day one. I love prop planes, especially tail draggers, so I'll be buying this as soon as it hits EA
  7. I don't have a VR setup. I don't know if this could make things better under AMD but lots of people are saying using OpenXR makes a huge difference to the performance under VR. Maybe try it if you aren't already using it.
  8. I think right now the best card you can buy for DCS is the cheapest card with 24GB of VRAM. Only the grey applies to DCS, the price/perf difference of a 3090/Ti to a 4080 makes no sense. The only 40X0 card to buy is the 4090 just because it is a halo card and you "have to have it". I spent all my toys money on race car parts so no 3090 for me this season. I'm looking forward to see what the next gen AMD GPUs can do. I speculate the $/perf/W ratio will be an inflection point with the AMD cards and even with un-optimized games/drivers they will be a better buy. Kind of like how with this generation of CPUs the AMD is the way forward (full disclosure - I'm an Intel fan boi).
  9. The search in user files is pretty atrocious.
  10. If I was buying "today": - Wait for new 7000 series AMD CPU - something 6/12 to 8/16 C/T would probably be my pick depending on price to performance bang f.ior the buck. Implies AM5 mobo ofc. - 3090 (Ti?) - prices are dropping daily so stock will dry up shortly I guess. In the real world I'm not sure there is much in it wrt the 3090* vs 3080Ti. 5-10% uplift max? $/bang will dictate. I'm out of the loop on when the next generation AMD GPUs will drop. If it's less than ~6 months away I might be inclined to buy NV today and sell to replace with AMD later. Depends - 64+ GB RAM - storage to taste. FWIW, I run OS+Steam on a 1TB M2, DCS on separate 1TB M2, DCS OB on a third 1TB M2. Kind of overkill given I never use "regular" DCS. With 64GB CL14 RAM, fast storage, 11700K and 3070 I never see stutters but this is in pancake mode and I typically have my heavy SP missions running on a separate server machine (10700k, 64GB, M2, yadda, yadda). I'm generally pro Intel but AMD is the way forward today IMO.
  11. Developers, Product Leads, Scrum Masters will arrange their tasks and organization as they see fit. We are just talking and day dreaming over here. Don't be a bunch of killjoys.
  12. I voted for an adversary to the i-16 that we have now. A He-111 would be good for an early WW2 theatre as well if it ever comes to be but, another comparable fighter to the i-16 would be ideal I think. Knife fight in a phone booth. Thinking on-line "arena matches". Hehe An AI He-111 is enough for my purposes; include the opposition co-hort and maybe some ground assets to liven up a map. Doing some recip props might give the team a chance to do something different and technically easier. I have a fetish for training planes. Another map would be cool. Spanish Civil War? Cold war, Gibraltar and east maybe including northern Africa and the Europe? A F104C and F104G variant would be ok as well. At this point I'm guessing there is enough declassed data on most F104s that they can pick and choose a bunch of variants to widen their product's appeal to more customers. $0.02

    Pain! When?

Acquired old 'Baa Baa Blacksheep' TV show. Painfully dated and repetitive plots but the Corsair sements are enough of a fix for now.
  14. I don't get why NV doesn't do 16GB cards. Not enough addressing space? Always a missed opportunity IMO.

FWIW, given an option I'd prefer to have an English cockpit - simulate that the pilot can competently read what's being displayed and not simulating some rando trying to steal a foreign military aircraft. IIRC, Octopus-G added an English pit to the i-16 as part of coming out of early access. I'm ok with that approach - it's fine details at the end and bigger fish to fry in the meantime. TBH, I'd be ok if it never came with an English pit also but appreciate that it did. I wasn't expecting it. It's not something to get excited about. I buy the modules for the quality of what went into them so for me it is what it is.

Once you learn the workflow do you really ever read the label on the gauge?

Texture refinement and other eye candy should be the last step in bringing a module to market. That's "easy" relative to the programming. The external model could be a bunch of cubes at this point. The video shows good progress I'd say.

Would love to see any of these come to DCS
  19. You might be doing it wrong...
  20. FWIW, I used to play on a PD3200U. Fantastic monitor! For productivity... Still have it hooked up to my primary Linux workstation, Like it so much I bought one for my wife as well. There's nothing wrong with it as a DCS monitor but it was not great either (tearing). Get a gaming monitor is my reco. Something with higher refresh and [f,g]sync so you have more options. There are decent ones with good colours out there. It doesn't have to be photo-retouch accurate. It's a game, between the semi-borked lighting in DCS and screwing around with the gamma it's not something I'd be super concerned with as long as you buy something with decent colour. I'm playing on a 43" 4K TV now... I find it too big (physically) with TrackIR. I'm thinking about something x1600 or x1440. Haven't decided if I want to wide screen or not. In that thread linked above I like the view of the 1920x1200 for the extra vertical height. Maybe 3480x1600 is where I should be looking. $0.02
