Hotas Warthog, Logitech X55 or what else?
reece146 replied to panph90's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've been pretty happy with the T.16000 Hotas. It's plastic but decently ergo and the switches themselves feel really good/strong/reliable. It's definitely budge compared to the equipment others have listed. I've been using it since the new year after being away from flight sims for 20+ years. I don't have anything new-ish to compare against. I considered the X-52 but after reading the more "clueful" reviews on amazon decided against it - I don't have the patience to play "QA Lottery". FWIW, my buddy also bought the X-52 recently and he is happy with it but I have not seen it. My only criticism of the 16000 is that I wish the centre detent on the rudder pedals was more pronounced and I wish there was a pinky finger on the stick itself to use as a nose wheel brake trigger. Minor quibbles. I was looking at the X-52 just for dual throttle but so far haven't missed that feature (been flying Spits, Stangs and Sabres mostly, haven't gotten deep enough into the F-5 or F-18 to need/want it yet). IIRC, T-45 is set up for carrier ops - more rugged airframe and the equipment required for carrier ops. I'd expect a completely different avionics suite as well (plus nose shape). Maybe the air brake design is different also (been a while). That said, I'm intending to get this beastie and skin in Can colours. :)

Good vid - interesting how the A-10 and Harrier kick the crap out of FPS compared to the others. -
The most uncomfortable pitchup issues
reece146 replied to Cintra's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
A couple weeks ago I had a similar problem to the OP - constant nose up and no amount of trim would put the nose down to fly straight. It seemed to happen suddenly and only with the Spit (no issues with the F86, P51, or F5). I went into the controls config multiple times looking for conflicts but saw nothing obvious... Then I remembered that I had added another USB card to the computer so that I didn't have to constantly switch between the steering wheel for car racing and the joystick for flying. Went back into the controls settings and my steering wheel and pedal setup was assigned to the roll pitch and rudder axes in addition to the joystick. They remained centred at all times but still assigned. I disabled them totally and the problem went away. It's weird but... that was the fix for me. Dunno if this will help the OP but if anyone finds this in a search in the future it is something to try. -
Fun! Dig it.

Yes, this works - recently burned through all four underwings and landed on fumes on the internal tanks. Remember, the inboard tanks don't have an indicator when they are empty. You can only tell they are empty by the internal fuel gauge starting to move. IIRC gave ~2hrs flight time at mostly WOT.

New to DCS so maybe I missed something obvious in configuration... I have a TM T.16000M stick and it has side to side twist built into it. Is there a way I can bind a view left/right into the twist stick? This is meant as a simple aid to helping with SA/orientation while landing and such until I get a VR setup (hence not interested in TrackIR ATM). Any insights appreciated. Thx

Sorry - dumb question... Is this available for download? I trolled the user files for your user name and didn't see it. :)

Beautiful skin. This would look great as a civilian skin for the TF - remove the USAF markings and maybe make the red along the back go straight down the back and make the vertical stabilizer red as well. Just a thought.

Speaking of inboard and outboard pylons... I was touring around the Caucasus with four underwing tanks shooting touch-n-goes, exploring, etc. The inboard tanks don't indicate when they are empty in DCS? Is this a known thing on the F-86 in general? Have to pay attention to the main gauge starting to move to know when the tanks are not providing fuel? <was switched to inboard - no way the flight time could have been that long without drawing from those tanks> Curious... I mean, even in the 1950s... how hard can it be to wire up? :)

I guess this page is wrong then? Says over 600 were built with AB. https://militaryaviationchronicles.com/cold-war/perhaps-the-best-f-86-canadairs-sabre-mk-6-turning-60/ I was generically researching/learning about the Sabre from a pure interest sake and stumbled over that page so thought I'd ask about it. I haven't been able to find anything else that agrees with that page. Re-reading the page/paragraph there may be a grammar fail there.

I'm keen for this aircraft - been a favourite - model looks great. Would like to see it get some code love. :)

Is there a mod out there for the F-86 to give it an afterburner like the Canadair Mk VI variant? I don't know much about mods - is this even possible

Subscription model software sucks. Adobe, Stadia, Amazon e-reader, whatever - it sucks. Also, anything in the cloud sucks too. DCS's closest similar platform would be iRacing I guess. I have avoided iRacing not due to interest but because I can't guarantee that I will have enough seat time to make use of the money spent every month. Assetto Corsa and local leagues/servers gives a casual sim driver like me more than I need without the monthly payment. But it's free to play you say... till the terms and conditions change and that model, book, program that I've been using has been withdrawn by the publisher/company due to market pivoting, bogus digital rights management issues, censorship rules, or 'just 'cuz' of some company principle's whim. Don't say it can't or won't happen - do some googling for examples. I could get behind a 'pay what you want' for the base program and/or an optional monthly payment via Patreon or some other platform (in-house?). For example I support Wikipedia, Firefox, Elementary Linux, and a bunch of other enginerds with Patreon/Youtube presences monthly. I do this because I like what they are doing and don't mind sending them some money every month to support them. How much I send is up to me and I can change or delete the payment at will if I want. It's totally optional. So, keep the payment schedule as it - it's what ED is used to, make optional monthly payments available for those that would choose to support ED this way. I'd expect a non-small number of regular fliers would flip a few bucks a month to support ED. I would. $0.02

Fantastic! Downloading now. Thanks a bunch!

Looking forward to it. Circumstances could be better - stay safe!

Did the Top Gun Voltige skin ever get uploaded? I can't seem to find it on the downloads page (or maybe I'm blind).

Could This PC Build Run DCS
reece146 replied to Deadlypox's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have an RX580. In a word: sucks. Ymmv if you are willing to turn down a lot of graphics. Look at the Nvidia 1660 imo. Or something even better if you can swing it. -
I'd been waiting for a sale to pick up the Yak and the Christensen Eagle. Made my day! :)

WWI aircraft would great. I'd buy them.

When you've been in the industry several decades you know it's true a lot of the time! Not always, but... a lot...
