  1. Damnit. I know I will not be able to hold out for a boxed version now. Once all the stories start pouring in about how awesome the beta is and stuff I will most likely crumble and download. You guys are so cruel and awesome at the same time. Hmmmm. Only other option I have is to block my browser from being able to access this site. :D Hardest part is that we have no idea when the release date is to be able to determine if I can wait it out, or not. Maybe I will just buy a retail when its released as well. Or wait for it to be discounted in store..... Fine I will pre-order when I get home. See I knew I could work this out.
  2. Son of a bitch, awesome sauce. But, I want a boxed version of the game. Is it possible to pre-purchase that as well and get a beta download? Edit: Wow, damn I am slow. Box art looks great. I want a box. Can you send me a box if I order the download version. :)
  3. I have the shkval zoom on the upper button behind the side trim wheel. Lower is for descent. Zoom in/out is the mini stick. Dpad shkval. Lock target is upper on front of throttle, auto hover is the lower on front. Pretty much allows me to not move my hand at all while targeting with shkval. And all with only one hand. Stations is a cycle command using one of the green buttons. When I had targeting on the stick, I could not access all the buttons needed without moving my grip a bunch. I probably need the gate size buttons, but I find I do not change it much.
  4. Is it DX11  Seriously, what is it? Surprises is what starts all wars. << Fact :music_whistling: You wouldn't want to start a war, would you?
  5. Especially at 1:53 :joystick:
  6. Hmm, small arms fire did that much damage to the "flying tank"? Seems unbelievable that landing 3/4 down the runway with no flaps or air brakes would not result in ending up in the grass. Nice video though. Good flying and shooting.
  7. I use the Dpad on throttle for shkval slewing. that way I dont alter the alignment of the chopper. Much easier to keep the throttle stationary while slewing than the joystick.
  8. And in typical chinese knock off fashion, they create a fake that is being replaced in the originating country. Why not just buy the used planes and save a few billion?
  9. Oooh, the only plane I have ever used the controls in. :pilotfly: I have been online with more than 10-15 people in a single mission. But new engines are always better I guess.
  10. Heh, didnt have that at work either. You must engage auto hover, then when you press and hold the descent mode button, the chopper will descend at a safe speed. Not sure what may cause slipping without a trk file. Maybe wind?
  11. Damn I love that plane. That was some serious low flying. :shocking:
  12. Not sure how steam works, but if your computer gets wasted, you will need to get the game back on your system somehow. Now, if you back up to a separate drive, you will obviously just need to reinstall.
  13. Nice idea, but how do you make the collective stay in place?
  14. Watch the training videos first before patching if possible. Then patch. Or you will need to install the training video mod. Oh, get modman as well. Then you can get mods.
  15. Looks like some original footage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Sdvh5eFMqg&feature=related Not sure about the bomb drop footage at 2:06 Pod bangs into other bombs on release.
  16. How long does a 6gb or, whatever the final game size will be, take to download? I agree that inflation has gone up, but I am pretty sure designing a sim back in 95 took a great amount of resources as well. They were all forging the genre as they were making games. Computers were much much more expensive so designing on super computers cost a lot more then, than it does now to grab a 8 core mac off the shelf at the local apple store. ED made A10 in about a year I guess? How long did it take to make a new game in 95? D2D does not have to go out of business. Some evil hacker just has to not like them enough to infect and destroy their mainframe. Also, if my optical copy does get damaged, I still have a serial and some other options in getting a new copy of the game.
  17. Is that PAVE sensor on F111 called R2D2?
  18. Not sure what the deal is with getting an actual game anymore. I do not like steam at all. I do not like D2D. I am not even sure if its legal to burn a disc with my stuff from steam or D2D. Prices have not dropped, but games still cost the same if not more than they used to when they included an encyclopedia with them. For my money, I would like a disc with art on it, and a box with art on it. I have read many occurrences of people asking how to get another copy of the game they bought because their HDD crashed or they got a new computer and did not know how to get their game off the old one. My .05c Blank media will not last as long as a retail disc from ED. At least I hope the ED disc is of better quality. So, in 5 years, my game should still be readable. Have read of people having data corruption on blank media discs less than 5 years old. Also, since no one knew what DCS BS was, i was able to pick it up a couple months after release (when I first heard of it) for already half price. D2D does not have overhead to worry about, so prices do not change as fast.
  19. I want a DVD version for sure. I just like having a box on my desk.
  20. Cant go with 11 out of the box. Nothing to "improve" in the next release. Look how well apple uses this technique.
  21. Do ragdoll physics even have any impact on physics like DX11? Thought that was for another pointless debate.
  22. Eyefinity is not needed. It requires one display port to be used and 2 other ports. But the display port is passive and requires an adapter to work. Get 2 cards and run 2 monitors from each. The money you save on the adapter will pay partially for the second card. If you can afford i7 go for it. Or check out AMD 6 core. Pick any board that has 2 16x PCI slots as most of the top end features will be unused by you. Grab 4-8gb of ram if you want. Wow, I have been out of the PC realm for 6 months and am totally lost on the GPU wars. No idea what all the different 4xx series cards are. 480/460 were the only ones last I heard. Anyway, I would grab 2x 460 or 2x 5850. All depends on the resolution you are running on all your monitors. I think when Helios is released and shown to work well, I will grab 3x 20-22" touchscreens (front and side panels) and a main 28" 1080p cockpit screen. Just hoping that my current 4890 + ancient 7600GT can drive them all. I am hoping the control panels from Helios do not require huge GPU power so it can be used by the front and main where the MFD and pilot view will be displayed. Watched that video. Seems eyefinity is easier to set up than I thought months ago. But, that will just get you a big view stretched over 3 monitors. More FOV, but if you notice in the video, the middle out of the side monitors is distorted. I would choose a portrait monitor setup for the 3 panels side by side. I do not think eyefinity will allow you to have a screen for the panels though. It just turns 3 monitors into one big cockpit view. You do get more FOV so if I had the money to burn, I would get 3x 30" monitors in eyefinitiy portrait, then an additional 3x 22" touch screens for the helios cockpit. This would require 2 5850 with active DP adapters, but would be simply stunning. Would also set me back roughly $3000 probably. So ditch the 30" for 3x 28" 1080p for a savings of at least $1500 probably. Or do what I said above. One main landscape screen and sacrifice the FOV. Aim for 700+ watt PSU. Depending on cards, I would be looking at a 750w.

    Falcon 4?

I never got F4 as it was above my old computers abilities. Good to see gaming has come a long way since F4 release. Followed 9 days later by the first patch. Newer games take at least twice that for the first patch. The quality is definitely getting better. :) Maybe I will try this FF on my win7 + ATI4890 setup.
  24. Most can not. Hence the fiasco. I believe Win7 can have all its beauty turned off so it looks more like XP. From what I have read, win7 is much smarter than xp. It utilizes dormant ram to cache programs that you typically use at certain times. My computer is on all the time, so when I get home from work and fire up hulu or firefox as usual, win 7 has already anticipated that and cached it. So, it loads quicker. No idea how much faster of course but I do not care. I think I could survive without this feature, as my life is not so busy that I can not wait .5 sec longer for internet access. But just one of the things it does that xp does not. All FPS testing I have ever done shows more FPS in win7 with aero than vista and xp though. Oh, and those 2 videos on flight site are worthless.
  25. I would say even though the stats do not definitively state the distance of engagement or the proximity of the missile, most situations would be accounted for. Unless we are saying we think everyone with a ER is firing at 8km and everyone firing a 120c is engaging from 15+km. Then the stats would be skewed in favor of the AIM. Also do not know if the engagement was with an AI plane or a human plane which would presumably make a difference.
