Survey: Side Stick or Front and Center?
walker450 replied to polygonpusher's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Update: After flying with a center sick for a while, I decided to go back to a side stick, but keep my extension. Now I have to best of both worlds. I cut a round hole in my desk and mounted the joystick base under it. It has worked very well so far and is very comfortable. -
CPU Hit TJ Max A Few Days Ago
walker450 replied to 636_Castle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would definitely do the above. (reseat, re-paste) I didn't have good contact when I first built my computer (Q9550) and it overheated about 5 times before I figured out it was a bad seat. I re-pasted and re-seated and everythinghad been fine. That was just over 2 years ago and I have ran it overclocked and have had many successful 12 hour prime runs. -
Wow what a machine!!

I think it would be great to have a Sticky in the Home Cockpit section with useful and helpful links. If all the builders just contribute a link or two, we will have quite a collection. We could have sections like: Simpit Basics Wiring Basics http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_wiring.html Pots/Switch Information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potentiometer#Rheostat Hacking Keyboards and Controllers http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2217250/all/Joystick_Hack_and_More.html Multiple Monitors http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=50390 Custom switch panels Touch Screen Controls I/O boards Etc Etc... If anyone would like to start adding links feel free to and then all I'll have to do is compile them into an organized list.

I stumbled onto this while working on my ST290 extension project http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/pcb_wiring.html This guy goes into detail about hacking apart console controllers to use as arcade controls. This same information translates over to working on simpit controls. It has great information on general soldering and wire selection.

I love the way everything complements one another. Very stylish and "clean". You mentioned you fly in RL... Could you elaborate? History aircraft etc. :)

I'm definitely interested. Please keep me informed. :)

Thanks Cat. So it looks like for around $40 for your board, $60 for X-keys, plus shipping, wire, and switches/rotaries... Where do you buy your switches from? And another question: Do all of the switches have to be momentary (like they return to "neutral" after clicking them up of down)? Or can X-keys jet send one keystroke for a normal toggle? Thanks a lot- now I'm excited about starting a switch panel :)

Hey CAT, if possible could you give me a "cockpit board for dummies" explanation on what someone like me would need to get started? I currently have nothing extra for input/output besides my joysticks, keyboard, and speedpad. I assume I would just need an X-keys card, your board, wire and switches. Does the x-keys card show up in Windows like a joystick does? (making it easy to setup with games) I trust ya to steer me in the right direction. :) If it is something that I need and would make it easier for me to get started to build some switch panels, count me in. :) PS: Your link in the first post is broken for me.

Thanks guys. I aquired another video card tonight. So my new "To Do" consists of this: install video card (bringing it to a total of three), purchase and install Win 7, reinstall BS, install latest version of SoftTH, then figure out how to get three main views working plus the ABRIS and Shkval (however you spell that!!).

Triple Monitor with Softh
walker450 replied to S77th-RYKE's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Bump for a great thread. Thanks to all that helped with config files! -
Mine started doing that after I lengthened the wires, but it was because I got two wires swapped around. Once I corrected the wires, everything has been fine since. So what this means is that tiny gremilins, possibly employed by TM, have gotten into your Saitek, and swapped two of the 20 wires. This is obviously the most logical reason, right? :)

After much more reading, it looks like the new version of SoftTH might work best for me. The new version 2.0 requires Win7, so I will have to upgrade from Vista first. I've been outing the transition off, but a fresh install of everything is pobably a good thing. :) I'll update once I try another configuration.

Awesome!

Yes I normally use that FOV. Right now I'm in the process of setting up 19" LCDs on each side of the main monitor. I'll post up the results once I get everything running smoothley. The seat is from a typical office chair. I have seen some people use car seats and they work well. I'll do my best to find a green eye redhead. :)

:megalol: My wife won't take the time to learn... but here is a girl that can actually fly it somewhat well, and yes, she can "park it" :pilotfly: And just in case you want to see a blonde:

I have read through many many posts.... and have decided to start yet another on the topic. I have been successfully running 3 monitors for a while now. See my simpit link for a description. Now I would like to add two more, a left and right for the main view. I was able to get it working with a total of 4 monitors (3 views, one abris), but the framerate was unplayable. My system: Win 7 64 dual GTX 280s (total of 4 DVI-outs) My question is this: With my system, what would be the best way to run a main view of approx 4160x1024 across 3 monitors, and an additional 768x1024 for the abris?? Do I need to invest in a TH2go? Or setup Soft TH? Thanks for any advice!!

There is a "normal" Me-109... The one at the murseum has a Rolls engine. Here is some text taken from thier website about the planes's history: The Cavanaugh Flight Museum's Me-109 was built in Germany in 1943 and shipped to Spain that same year as part of an agreement for the licensed production of Me-l09s there. Hispano Aviación, under obligation to supply the Spanish Air Force with fighters after the war, was unable to secure any Daimler-Benz DB 605 engines and instead fitted these planes with a British Rolls-Royce Merlin. Designated the HA-1112, this aircraft served in Spain until 1967. The Me-109 is painted in the personal colors of General Adolf Galland, one of Germany's most famous World War II aces. This aircraft has appeared in a number of films including “Memphis Belle”, “The Battle of Britain”, the H.B.O. film “The Tuskegee Airmen” and the British T.V. series “Piece of Cake”.
