  1. I noticed that, too. I use the emergency break to avoid having to press the toe brakes all the time. But I'm curious if this is a normal aircraft behavior in RL. Somehow I doubt that little engine will be able to move the airframe at idle.
  2. Ok, thanks for the quick reply!
  3. Can someone help me get the radio to work? I dial the correct carrier frequency, but there's no communication options whatsoever. The only ones I can talk to (while on the ground) is the ground crew. I can't call marshall, the tower, or the LSO. Thanks in advance! Doc
  4. I just did a quick circle around the boat and came back here to say "THANK YOU!!". She's excellent - a sheet joy to fly! She's easy to fly (got a 3 wire on the first try) and will be an excellent trainer for new flyers before transitioning to the F-14 or the F-18. She feels just right - not too powerful (as a trainer should be), agile enough, yet stable. I look forward to putting her through her paces and testing the FM tomorrow. Amazing job, you guys!!
  5. CONGRATULATIONS, guys!!!
  6. A quick MiG-15 fight with a pair of F-86s, then enjoying the gorgeous clouds...
  7. Just finished a quick fight with two Sabres - "ace" level AI, everyone's at 50% fuel. Yes, not like flying against human players, but still fun. I still can't get over those gorgeous 2.7OB clouds.
  8. I promised someone a video of a MiG-19 vs. F-5E engagement. I'm VERY rusty with the MiG-19 - both flying and especially aiming. Still, lots of fun.
  9. I totally agree with everything you said!! It's all just in good fun. But the SFM on the Tucano does bother me a little. The old A-4 also had a SFM, but always flew much more believably (though it had some quirks too). Same with the Hercules - I doubt its FM is very realistic, but it feels more "real". The ST, on the other hand, doesn't doesn't give me that feeling of flight. I don't know how to explain it. It's fun to mess around with, but just doesn't click with me. I know that tons of people love it, and I certainly wish the developers nothing but the best. But I'll wait until the ST gets a bit more mature to try it again. Cheers!!
  10. For the final test - just for kicks and giggles - I flew the little A-29B against the most maneuverable mod in DCS - the Su-57 (whose FM is quite questionable as well). The Su-57 can outmaneuver just about anything in DCS... except the little Super Tucano. LoL!
  11. To continue testing the Super Tucano's flight model by staging a simple dogfight with the beautifully done A-4E mod. The outcome confirmed what I already expected - the A-29's FM needs a lot of tweaking before it becomes even somewhat believable (yes, I know it's the SFM...).
  12. Having fun with my favorite warbird - the Polikarpov I-16 - against two Bf-109s. The clouds at sunset look fantastic - almost make you forget that you're in the middle of a dogfight.
  13. You are right - at full throttle it slowly rolls CCW, and with 1/2 throttle and the airspeed decaying in the 250kph+ range it slowly rolls CW. Interestingly, if you are flying full throttle, and then easy off to about 3/4 or so, it actually pitches up. As for the gear down - I'll post a video of it flying hands off at about 220kph with no input from me, no roll, and the nose pointed a couple of degrees down (but not change in pitch). I really need to sit down and test it carefully and record all the quirks at various speeds, attitudes, and throttle settings. Either way, there are certain throttle settings/speed ranges, where the plane requires no back pressure on the control stick anymore. And I do agree that the ultimate goal will be to make the model fly as realistically as possible. There are several flying I-16s (in New Zealand, one in Madrid, Spain). I wonder if any of the pilots who fly the real thing are DCS fans and would consider collaborating with the developer. The trim tabs were added to the production Type 10. I can't find any info if they were retained in on the later types (I think Type 24 is modeled here???). Either way, I hope the developers continue to improve this gem. I fly this mod more than all the other DCS warbirds combined.
  14. Yeah, my JF17 frame rates dropped down significantly since the 2.7OB upgrade. I haven't tested all my modules, but everything else I've flown so far hasn't seen that big of an impact (if any). With the JF-17, the gameplay becomes literally to a slide show at times, especially during a WVR engagement. I'm not quite ready to go down the route of wiping out my entire SSD and reinstalling from scratch. We'll see how things are in the next patch release.
  15. I flew the "improved" I-16 for the first time last night and all I can say is "I want my old I-16 back!". The new I-16 flies like it's on rails (like the stupid I-16 in that other WW2 simulator). No trimming is needed at speeds above 300-320kph- the plane flies like it's on rails. That makes no sense: There are tons of reports that talk about the I-16 not being flyable hands-off at any speed. The old version had character that made it challenging, but it felt more realistic, more alive. Now the airplane feels sterile. Because the plane is mostly trimmed now, the flaps - even a tiny bit - make it balloon. In the old I-16, I used to get down to about 180-200kph, then drop about 18deg. of flaps and it leveled off nicely, allowing me to focus on deploying the landing gear. Now, at 200-220khp, with the gear fully down, the plane still flies more or less trimmed even without flaps. The nose starts do dip down noticeably only once the airspeed decays down to about 160kph. The landing itself feels "different" somehow, though I can't put my finger on it. On the old I-16, you had to dance on the rudder pedals once the wheels touch the ground to keep the bird going straight. Now there's much less "dancing" needed, but even after the plane has almost come to a stop (or during slow taxing), it swings from side to side in a weird way. Again, I can't really quantify this, just a feeling I got after doing a few landings. I know that people have been complaining about not being able to fly the plane hands-off and the lack of trim. Well, they certainly got their wish granted. For me, the new FM ruins the realism and immersion. I wish the developer could have two different versions - the old I-16 for people who crave realism and the new "self-trimming" version for those who insist on flying hands-off. Sorry about the rant, but I'm really frustrated to have lost one of my favorite DCS planes.
  16. Testing the new 2.7OB cloud system with a quick F-5E vs. MiG-19 dogfight.
  17. Same here. The distant vibrating clouds don't bother me as much, but the quality of the clouds is VERY disappointing right now in VR. I'd rather not have any clouds than these shapeless blobs we have now in VR. Totally ruins the realism for me.
  18. Well, I jumped in the old I-16 for a quick dogfight with a Bf-109 - the standard instant action dogfight mission for the I-16. Here are my first impressions: 1. Holy cow - I can't tell what's up and what'd down in the clouds. It is VERY disorienting! 2. The AI seems to be behaving more "intelligently". I may be mistaken, but I think ED have tweaked the AI. It no longer does mindless vertical circles, but tries a larger variety of "moves". 3. On my aging machine (i7-8500, Nvidia 1080GTX, 24GB memory, Rift-S), the new 2.7 OB seems to run a bit more choppy than 2.5.6 OB. Still playable, but 2.5.6 ran a bit more smoothly. Still very flyable, though (at least with only 1 opponent). Need to do much more testing.
  19. I finally got around to downloading and trying out the new A-29B that everyone's been going bonkers over. Well... there are things I like about the new Super Tucano, and there are things I don't like very much... As with most models, I put the A-29B through its paces to see what her limits are. I found some really weird behaviors. Yes, I know the A-29B has the SFM, but so do many other aircraft in DCS and I've never seen quirks like this. This video is not intended as a criticism, but rather as an attempt to help the developers identify the issues and address them in one of their next releases. I have nothing but respect for the developers' hard work and talent. Keep up the good work, you guys!
  20. Fantastic work!!!! Hope you can share it at some point. It's amazing to see how generous people like you are with their time and talent.
  21. Yes, I do, of course. So did the A-4C v.1.4, but it always flew much more believably. With the throttle open, the Super Tucano does not lose airspeed no matter how hard you pull. In the vertical, the airspeed decays way too slowly. In fact, I almost did a knife-edge loop (with that small rudder!), but past the vertical, the plane got stuck motionless and just hung there in the same vertical position. Eventually, after I wiggled the controls and got it to put out of the frozen vertical. I'll look to see if I have this on video - or may try to recreate later today. Either way, if you're happy with it, that's great. I certainly appreciate the work that the developers have put into this mod and wish them the best.
  22. It's nice that people are coming up with all kinds of skins (honestly, I had no idea that the Super Tucano was so popular), but to me the more important question is "When will the flight model be updated?". Undoubtedly, this new mod belongs to a small, select group of really well-done models, but the flight model is anything but realistic. This may not be important for people who just want to drop bombs and look at pretty skins, but for the mod to reach its full potential and satisfy those of us looking for realism, the flight model needs to be overhauled. Just my 2 cents...
  23. As far as I am concerned, the best mods by far are the A-4C and the Hercules. The MB339 is a lot of fun, but I have STRONG doubts about the flight model as it currently is. The mod is being redesigned as a paid 3rd party app, so I'm sure they will make it into a superb module eventually. Personally, I don't get everyone's obsession with the new Super Tucano mod. I applaud the developers effort, skill, and dedication - they are making an amazing gift to everyone at the expense of their personal time and effort. However, for me, the A-29B is undercooked, especially the flight model. Another fun mod is the Su-57 by CubanAce. Again, take the FM with a grain of salt - it flies a bit like a UFO. But it's a lot of fun to take into into a gun fight against unlimited number of other opponents and decimate them all. CubanAce also had a Mig-23 that I still fly every now and then, but it's not as fun as the Su-57. (He may have updated it since I downloaded it last year.) And, of course, everyone is waiting for the new T-45. Judging from the amount of work the developers have put it, that will be a spectacular mod.
  24. Pouring rain, rough seas, an armed convoy protected from the air by a Mi-24 Hind.
