  1. I never turn my VR controllers on, I use a left handed trackball mouse next to my throttle on a custom mount. Because it's a trackball it doesn't move and I know where it is at all times while I'm in VR. Because it's a left handed one and I'm right handed it took a bit of getting used to but it means I can click switches and things without having to take my hand off the stick.
  2. Cables have always arrived fairly quickly for me, within 2 or 3 days. My replacement headset took about 2 months. But after 4 cables and 2 headsets I've finally given up on my G2 and asked for a refund. To be fair to HP, everyone I've spoken to on the phone has always been very personable and helpful and they even offered me a refund even though my headset is out of warranty, due to the number of issues I've had and the time I've had to wait for replacements. It's frustrating because when it works I really like the G2 and it's clarity. I've tried routing my cables all different ways, as suggested here and elsewhere but for some reason I've had no luck, I always get failures. Maybe the design is prone to fail or I've just been unusually unlucky. Either way, I'm going to revert back to my Quest 2 while I decide what to do next. I might buy a different brand headset, wait a while for something new, or buy a new G2 and start again with a new warranty and see if I have better luck.
  3. I can understand the original poster's frustration. After initially loving the clarity of the G2 after only a couple of weeks I soon started to get black screen issues until my G2 would no longer work at all. Now, after a new PC, replacement cables, 2 months waiting for a new headset and after two weeks of my replacement headset working perfectly, suddenly it just stopped working mid DCS flight. I haven't updated Windows, drivers or anything. It went from working to crashing and not working in an instant - just like that! I'm getting USB 4.1 error codes now, in every USB port that I try. Windows even says it doesn't recognise the connected USB device, even though WMR automatically starts up! I even tried a brand new unused cable that HP had sent me before sending the new headset, which up until now I hadn't used. That isn't working either. So all I can think is, since nothing has changed on my PC and I've tried different, new cables, the fault must be the headset. I'm just about ready to give up on the G2 and ask for a refund.
  4. I think my experience is similar to yours. Basically, to sum up briefly, the clouds look their best on Ultra but there's a definite performance hit. If I set clouds at anything below Ultra I notice a horrible pixilation at the horizon when flying above or between layers. The lower the setting, the closer and worse the pixilation looks. I'm running clouds set to Normal for the best compromise between visual quality and performance.
  5. I think it's good to try and give a starting base to work from, but yes, I think that's fair enough, go from there to whatever works for you at the end of the day.
  6. Yes, that's my worse bugbear with it, moving around and losing the sweet spot, especially when looking down at side panels. I posted a topic a while ago about needing a chin strap or something to keep it in place but few people seemed to be in agreement.
  7. Agreed. Leave PD at 1.0 and adjust the per app resolution percentage in Steam. For example, I only have a AMD 5700XT but I can achieve 45fps if I set the per app Steam resolution to 50%. This might sound low but it's still surprisingly excellent clarity (I can read all the gauges and displays without leaning in) and is still better than the (still very good) Quest 2 clarity. The only difference between this and running the Steam res. at higher percentage is you will notice a lot more jaggies so I run MSA x2, but 50% Steam res. gives me enough overhead to be able to do this. I can run Steam res. at 100% and MSA off but my fps is about halved. Everyone's system is obviously different but I would say the basic rule is keep PD at 1.0 and juggle the Steam per app res. until you get something you're happy with.
  8. No, but I believe that is the same product that the VR Flight sim guy recently gave a glowing review of. I'm tempted to order one myself because unlike seemingly most people I've never found the G2 that comfortable. In fact I find the Quest 2 with the Elite strap much more comfortable. Edit: In fact, I'd forgotten about this and I've been looking to improve the comfort of my G2 so I've just ordered the 200g set. Thanks.
  9. Yep, Rshift+P is in the controls menu for pilot toggle but it's not possible to assign a joystick button to it.
  10. I haven't tried, I'm not at home at the moment. I'll have a look later but I don't want to use the keyboard because I fly in VR. I usually assign the key bind to a button on my stick so I can do it quickly without having to look. If Rshift + P is there, I should be able to bind that, I just couldn't see it in the settings, I'll have to have another look. (I was having a little difficulty priming the fuel and turning on the fuel pump because the geezer's leg is in the way.) Thanks.
  11. I'm talking about the Christen Eagle II. That does.
  12. I fly in VR and like to be able to quickly toggle the pilot body on and off to access certain switches. Is there a key bind for this? I couldn't see one in the settings. Thanks.
  13. Flying in VR; I'm pretty sure I used to be able to close the canopy by clicking on the strut but it doesn't seem to be working now (or I'm not finding the right spot to click). I can open it by clicking on it but not close it. Is this a bug?
  14. Yes, I think it's the same thing. I did a search of the forum before posting but didn't spot this. At least I know other people are hearing it and it's not just me imagining ghosts in the machine.
  15. I'm just curious, when flying the F-14, what's that constant sound I can hear that sounds like the whistling sirens of some distant ghostly ice cream vans? Is it just the sounds of the Tomcat engines? I don't hear anything like it in any other aircraft, it's very unique.
  16. Yes, that's why I'm thinking it won't be much use for DCS. I can get 60 - 70+ fps in some single player missions, depending on map and module, but I'm usually happy just to have a stable 45fps (or lower, as long as it's smooth). Still going to try 120Hz at least once though, just for the craic, to see how it performs and looks. (I just noticed, the spec in my sig is well out of date and not what I'm running! I should change that.)
  17. I enabled it in the Quest 2 experimental section but I still only have up to 90Hz when I click on the headset in the desktop devices section. Maybe it's just not fully unlocked yet on mine. It took a few restarts before I saw the AirLink when that was first released. But thanks for clarifying. I doubt I'll use it anyway. From your test it doesn't sound like it'll be much use for DCS, I was just curious to try it.
  18. So do you see an option in the desktop software to turn on 120Hz? Is it on the same Beta tab as where you turn on AirLink?
  19. I thought I'd try it out of curiosity. I enabled 120Hz in the headset but I didn't see any difference at all, although, even though I'm on v29 I couldn't see anywhere in the desktop software to turn on 120Hz, so maybe I still don't have it enabled yet.
  20. This might seem completely obvious with hindsight, but now I'm using my Quest 2 with AirLink the only thing that was limiting my flight time was the battery draining down. But then I realised I could use the Link cable, that I was no longer using to connect to the PC, instead I could plug it into the charging plug and keep the headset fully charged while I'm using it. It does mean I have a cable coming out of the side of the headset again, but when I was using the Link cable to the PC the battery would still drain down. This way I can fly for as long as I like.
  21. I have mine set to off, thinking it saves a few FPS, because I fly in VR, but I've never really paid much attention to whether it's actually working or not. I'm curious now, I'll have to test it on and off and see if I notice a difference. Edit: Doh! I've just realised this is in the VR section so I assume you're flying in VR too.
  22. I thought it was global illumination but since you have that off then that seems odd. I thought that was what reflected the external colours inside the cockpit.
  23. I did try landing on the roof of Leeds castle, to step out and see what the rooftop view was like, but I'm not as skilled a Huey pilot as you. Let's just say it ended in flames!
  24. Yes, that's what I mean. I don't know, you might not see much improvement in your case.
  25. It inspired me to do the same last night in VR. I landed inside Dover castle and Leeds castle, then stepped outside for a gander at the surroundings. Just fantastic and great fun in VR! It really feels like you're flying over the English countryside when you look down at all the little hedge lined lanes. My favourite map.
