Not sure what you want to know specific but I assume you want to know what you have to do different for DCS compared to "normal" workflow. Haven't used SP2 for DCS but I would assume as usual you paint on the UVs you set in 3dsmax or maya before and then export for PBR. If that does not meet DCS standards you may have to Photoshop fix it. Not a straight answer because I don't know for sure but that's what I would try first. cheers

Thank you for sharing!

Smoothing works by normals. as shown in the video I made. I'm too rusty to try it in EDM and see if the normals reset on export. I may try the next days.
-
@SkateZilla The tension of normals interpolates to their neighbours so if you detach or cut that relation breaks and the higher tension from other sides make the normals change there orientation which results in a break in smoothing/shading. To fix that you need to get the new normals of both edges to align in the original orientation and strength with each other which is in many cases close to impossible but in some it is. It will be much harder on asymmetric and organic surfaces as in your case and some normals may need to be modified individually to only reduce the problem but its very easy on symmetric bodies. I gonna make an example on a sphere and you can see how far that brings you or maybe inspires new solutions for your individual case with a more organic loaction. Hope that helps a bit. Let me know here or in SplashOne discord, cheers WELD

Is there at least a rough briefing or guideline for terrain or what is still actual from the old way of doing terrain? e.g. working in meters, split chunks into X km etc.? So that we don't have to bother ED before we actually got something on the way? Cheers WELD

nice work, just needs a contact shadow. Probably on the way.

I know I would try to use it for aiming if my HUD is damaged and I'm still turning with a bandit :D
-
If done smart it doesn't require a lot power. Less beautiful games and sims have it and most are on GPU.

Agreed, I fly with many MP pilots and I don't know a single one that is running vanilla textures. I even put myself to a disadvantage with starways because it is horrible for TGP stuff...still worth it. Anyway, c0ff stated that they underestimated the effect and that more IC control options would be better and even that they're looking into it. I respect that honesty and cooperation and will patiently leave my aircraft in the hangar until this has been sorted.

Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 9

Those bunkers are safer than the aircrafts that try to land it seems :D Thank you for all your hard work on this!! -
I failed to mention this is regarding Normandy and to a certain untested extend to Nevada since the Normandy release. We tested frames before and after the update and I would not post something thinking it could help if I was the only test object. This was one of the few updates that I got asked whether I want it or not. Its different than others since this is in beta stage and there is a lot talk about the issues and bugs it brings with it in general. Both the beta windows update and the Normandy map will experience optimizations and improvements so at some point this will hopefully be all fine. So long if you get 100+ fps on max settings possibly even in 4K WITH the update for some reason then be happy. This was tested to help people who are not that lucky with the Normandy's launch performance. cheers
-
In this first official Normandy release it brings frames down from 100+ to as low as 20 fps plus stuttering and other issues! 1.5 seems not or little effected. If you are unsure if you did run the "winver" comand in cmd and see if it says 1703. You can apparently roll back from it, I'll try that tomorrow. So long for people who can't or don't want to roll back because they love MSpaint so much...there are a few things to get about 50% of the lost frames and performance back. 1.disable game mode in windows settings and every other option e.g. DVR and streaming mode 2. Check disable full screen optimization in you DCS.exe compatibility mode (right click properties) general note: do not use Nvidia setting: "Optimize for Compute Performance" as it will most likely crash your DCS on mission load. In addition of course the usual suspects "terrain shadows off" and anti alias down etc. cheers, WELD

You can stay within the campaign in such a case and advance by modifying the logbook.lua https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2830501&postcount=181

couple patches ago I did a test with a flanker launching at me and I still got missile warnings when the ER was defeated and past me and the bandit had turned cold :D ...go figure
-
Let's just wait gentlemen. There is always the way of missile restrictions as many mp servers already do for different reasons.
-
Don't bother with HOJ. Any effective jammer range is way outside of DCS missile's effective range. Nothing that gets fired reasonable at the time you aren't burned through yet will hit its target.

Don't laugh! One of my favorite hobbies is going hog hunting in a 109 in MP :)

ED is a company. Sometimes companies can afford to do upgrades on already sold products without that them being promised on release. Easier if it is a big upgrade because though you have to put more man-days into it you can sell a big upgrade as a new product. So it is likely that it comes down to 2 questions. 1. Is the update big enough to make a new product of it? 2. Does the update take so few man-days that a company can give it out for free and bring in the loss somewhere else. I would assume the answer is NO in both cases. Though continuous threats like this may indicate to ED that a high fidelity F15 could be a profitable new product. So please go on :)

Is there much of a point to have HMCS to lock something off bore-sight but not the missile to acquire it? Well yes there is of course but it makes much more sense with a missile that looks more off bore sight as well.
-
I certainly wouldn't mind it but I can see why not as well and the reasoning why the eagle should have it is questionable. It is a simulator so the F18 will never shoot at an F15 :) I'm a 100% multiplayer pilot so I do understand what you mean though. The eagle has good chances against the russian planes despite the vector thrusting R73 so why would the 9x which hopefully is a match to that decide the fight all of the sudden? I don't know if the C model of the eagle ever got upgraded with 9x or HMCS but its reasonable to model a module in its time before any upgrades. That apart I would assume we can fit the 9x on the eagle but the HMCS working with a "imported lockon plane" maybe a bit bigger of an request.

I have that for a while in multiple aircrafts. Sometimes I check controls and "next page" and "previous page" got unassigned so I reassign and it works again. Sometimes its assigned correctly and when I reassign the same anyway it suddenly works. go figure

Only people who even tried SR should be allowed to vote. Right now I'm afraid a lot people just read "do you want..." and hit that greed button. Make SR an official 3rd party mod so it can get support for the missing aircrafts and and little tweaks. Other than that its exactly what everybody wants. It is also easy to set up and it is in heavy use on high populated MP servers. cheers

In a few days when people get more stable with the spitfire its gonna look bad for the 109 poilots. I fought some spits today and in some cases I was chasing and they turned in front of me and approached me frontal instead of going into a turn fight. I don't have the knowledge to judge it but whether or not this is realistic its incredible and happy times for spit pilots :) ..109 s have to get much more tactical which is kinda awesome. Like in old IL2 where a km altitude difference made you pretty much being safe and you wait for you moment to dip down and go back up etc instead of having short air-quakes.
