  1. Why not just make the ball (as indicated in the post above) simply "pop up" (as it used to in Jane's F/A-18)? It's hard for me in VR to see it (before it's too late i.e. I'm about to hit the deck) and I assume I am not the only having this problem.
  2. Using E-Bracket in combination with FPM is quite intuitive. It's true indeed, that if these two are properly aligned, you don't really need to look at your airspeed at all. That's what they're, in the end, meant to do: make it easier for the pilot to fly/land. :)
  3. When doing a 'simple' roll, with all the movement inside the cockpit (due to G-Forces), how hard is it to keep your eye on the HUD i.e. do you, under such circumstances, keep looking at the HUD as a 'guideline' on when to roll out or do the G-Forces make it too difficult and one has to focus on the 'general view' outside the HUD area in order to 'feel' the timing for a rollout or simply changing the course of a manouver? In case my question is not clear (which is very likely I guess), I am referring to this (and similar) manouvers: (In case the link doesn't show the right timeline, it starts from 9:45)

    F-18 so far

Aerial refueling and landings are a lot more "easier" i.e. intuitive in VR.
  5. +1
  6. ^^There's a flash light? :D
  7. ^^Seems kinda chubbier from the last time I've seen it. But I'm not gonna engage any further in airframe shaming.
  8. Once you try VR, there is no going back to 2D screen. In VR, it feels like being inside the cockpit. It is a total game changer..flying is a lot easier as it is more intuitive (depth perception, 1:1 scale etc.) As for turning your head around, you're only limited by how flexible your neck/upper body is..
  9. Well, you can ramp start, take off, blow sh*t up, shoot sh*t down, fly in formation, land on the boat, land on the tarmac, refuel with a tanker...so yeah...definatelly a lot of fun things to do, even while in Beta... :D
  10. It's not as simple as it may seem on the first glance. He simply does not want to take any chances of having problems because of the videos he posted - eventhough the videos have been pre-approved and shown no classified information. In short: My guess is, he didn't think it was worth the hassle, and I completely understand his decision (though I will really miss his videos which were very insightful, especially to us, virtual Hornet drivers). Mr. Brett, Sorry for the inconvenience you had. Thank you for the videos you posted and hope to see you around these forums. :) Don't mind the trolls. As you correctly noticed, they are the minority, albeit a loud one (unfortunately).
  11. Great video, really fun to watch! :)
  12. Thanks for the info!
  13. Is the Master Arm switch ON? Did you configure fuze type (tail/nose), quantity etc. in the Stores page? Is your 'pickle' button/key binding configured properly? :D
  14. Not to open a new thread (similar subject), I was watching these videos and this pilot's decent rate was pretty high (it appears well above 700-800 fpm on touchdown): So what are the acceptable decent rates for land-based and carrier landings, in general? I thought somewhere between 700-800 fpm was the norm?
  15. ^^Dewd, your video link appears to be porked.
  16. ^^Speaking of...is there some sort of requirements for the pilots to use/not to use certain..how should I put it, aids? For example, if a pilot would always use ILS approach even on a perfect weather (instead of visual) to land on the boat, would that be a problem for that pilot, in terms of honing skills i.e. someone/commander noticing this and berating him/her for always doing it the "easy way"? Same goes for Auto Throttle. I know it may seem a silly question but always wondered about this. :) Thanks.
  17. I know you can't flare while landing on the boat (duh!) but I have no problem doing this while landing on a land-based runway. I usually manage to flare, add some throttle and gently touch the runway and that's pretty much it. If I understand correctly (and from what I've seen in the "Jetstream" doc), land-based landings are pretty much the same as landing on the boat, i.e. controlled "crash landing". My question is, why not doing the standard flare instead? Perhaps DCS model is wrong (giving impression that you can land the Hornet the "standard way" when you in fact cannot) OR is there a different reason why the pilots IRL do it the way they do it? Seems to me (again, unless the DCS got it wrong) there's really no need to stress the landing gear at all and you can just do the usual flare (time it propertly and simply gently skid down the runway).
  18. I for one am grateful to Mover for posting that video and hope some of the comments here don't discourage him from continuing to share his thoughts on the DCS with the community. He was "goofing around"? So what? Guy is not allowed to have fun because he's a RL pilot and is under some sort of obligation to "study" the sim for us? Some of you guys are taking this whole thing too seriously..

    Thanks, Wags.

Fully support the decision. Do it right. Besides, it's not like we can't enjoy the F/A-18 in the meantime..as "incomplete" as it is... :)
  20. Using VR, I just level my plane and make a run for the boom, just by feeling..and it works most of the time. But I guess it's VR that makes the difference. Flying 2D may be a bit trickier due to the lack of field of depth.

    CAT & TRAP

Planning and Theory is a great thing but in the end, it always comes down to practice...and practice..and...guessed it yet? Practice. :D
  22. Patch worked for me as well. Good job ED!
  23. Would disabling the Oculus Beta (and switch to "standard" Oculus Home), fix the problem in DCS?
  24. I actually started using Oculus Touch and to my surprise, it's a lot more useful (and intuitive) than mouse. I have both touches on my lap and just grab one when I need to click/switch something. I had it all the time and never really gave it a proper try..Now, I'm totally using it..especially with the not-so-great CG reviews (which I initially planned on buying but in the end, changed my mind)
