SU25T how not get SAMed in campaign?
TAIPAN_ replied to oho's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I agree with Zakobi, never go below 3km altitude. The su-25t is a standoff weapons platform, albeit with a laser required for most guidance. IRCM always on, and I don't bother to take ECM I take air to air weapons just in case and they are light and low drag. I've completed 6 missions in GOW now, and had to trial and error the first one until I realised what a dangerous environment Georgia really is in this war. My formula is like this: -Use mission planner to customise loadout to standoff weapons only, my favourite is R60 + LLTV pod for target spotting + vikhrs + kh-25ml for 2 long range shots, inside pylons are empty for weight saving. -Mission planner set your wingman to carry Fantasmagoria + kh-25mpu + kh-25ml and no vikhrs. He can hit long range SAMs for you and 25-ml is a long range weapon to minimise his chance of killing himself! -Ingress at 6000m from the OCEAN side, there are no hidden defences in the ocean :) -Wingman will begin spotting targets -Attack from 1km beyond maximum altitude using LALT+w to authorise launch (altitude makes this additional range ok) -Use half flaps and brakes to keep you from getting too low while you wait -After hit with ONE weapon only, brakes off, turn off back over the ocean and after a few km turn back and repeat. NEVER try to release 2 weapons, with the laser requirement to hold you are risking your life. It works well, just don't get impatient and get too close. You should never get hit by AAA, stingers, strelas with this tactic. Anything long range will come up on your radar warning and you can keep outside it's range and ask your wingman to attack air defences he will get it first with his SEAD weaponry, give him 58s if you like and that's nice long range if there are known long long range threats. The only thing I haven't said yet, is that this formula gets boring and takes a LONG time to complete a mission, especially if you are used to the ka-50 unleashing all your weaponry and finishing a mission in under an hour. So, in that case I go back to the su-25, and do low-sam threat missions with bombing runs and rocket runs, alot of fun ;) -
SIm-mod pack version 1.6 error on rocket pods
TAIPAN_ replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in DCS Modding
Yeah, who does simmod? To fix this would let others see us with the pods -
Thanks Guys!

I'm flying Georgian oil war carrying Vikhrs only, less weight :) Fly in, kill SAMs and tanks with vikhrs, trucks and APCs with cannon, then continue to next target point. It IS less exciting to use only 2 weapon types, but that's realism, and it's NOT fun to keep dying when attempting rocket runs that are just stupidity on pilots part. Against armoured targets you don't need rockets, unless you're in a canyon that's tight and targets can popout at close range, then a quick rocket can be fired quicker than locking up vikhrs. For unarmoured targets like inf and trucks, low ROF cannon lasts quite long, and has same range as rockets. The only time I really need rockets is S-13s for destroying some hard targets instead of using bombs, or destroying ships to save your vikhrs so you don't have to launch so many on the ship.

I can say I agree with anything if we get a new version :)
-
Did u make a mistake? I hope you mean you CAN say how you agree to - "We are very lucky to have such talented guys who share their hard work like Ricardo and all the other modders."

Su-25 has to come first :)

I tried it in monitorconfig and it doesn't work. So I extended my view instead to show cockpit instruments on bottom monitor. ED this would be a GREAT feature shkval and a10 cam viewport.

How is the quality and quantity of the campaigns
TAIPAN_ replied to oho's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'm about 6 missions into the su-25t Georgian oil war. It's actually harder than black shark as it takes a lot longer when killing only 1 target on each pass. Impatience often ends up fatal. -
Display Issues....Graphics look zoomed

Will this work for multiplayer? -
TouchPal - Touchscreen Cockpit

Win7. It may not be called span but it's working. Taskbar only on main screen though. -
TouchPal - Touchscreen Cockpit
TAIPAN_ replied to Gadroc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah you need windows setup as a span. I tested and found a horizontal span setup has better frame rates than a vertical. So I setup as a horizontal span in windows, but physically as vertical. In your monitor config file for DCS, you set the second as viewdy = -0.8, i.e looking downward from the main view. You could go -1, but I prefer it at -0.8 as I find -1 is going too far down. In your options.lua, you set the width = the total pixel width of both monitors, and you point to your new monitor config. I did find the cockpit view a bit small compared to the top, because the bottom monitor wasn't a widescreen, so I zoomed the bottom one with a trick in the config file. If you need to do this, you can see how I did that here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=890462#post890462 But if both monitors are the same size, you shouldn't need to zoom the bottom one. The screenshot is Su-25t but I also had it on Ka-50. Can't wait to get my new 30" and it is 30" + 24" :joystick: -
Dual Graphics Card Performance
TAIPAN_ replied to TAIPAN_'s topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So second card actually slows it down! Also not sure with sli if I can run a second monitor? Because my main is dual link 2560x1600 -
Yep :) max zoom doesn't matter. So my reason to zoom in changes from looking for bigger size to now "make the detail materialize on that big box I can see"

It does deserve a big salute, because these servers do require a powerful system to run. I hope we don't have to wait too much longer for a dedicated server, that will make it easier to host.

Hi, 1) No, ABRIS is powerful but is a navigation tool. Any targets on there are either pre-programmed or due to data link from wingmen. Possible missile warnings: * Ka-50 have NO radar warning unlike fixed wing. * Ka-50 have NO infrared missile warning * Ka-50 does have laser-warning, top left of cockpit red lights in the direction of the laser. Most SAMs do not use this. It could indicate a tank is ranging you up for a shot, or something ranging you for cannon, maybe an enemy helicopter even * If you have radio assists turned on, an "observer" or "spy" will call to you on the radio with warnings like "missile 12 oclock low" etc. I've started using this on single player myself because I don't allow myself any recover, and it's more fun and less frustrating this way. Although realistic, I hated the sudden death explosion with no idea what caused it. * Your wingman can report attacks * Spot the smoke trail yourself if you're good and lucky. 2) You have already set it to high resolution if you set cockpit to 1024 every frame. However - map buttons or slider on joystick to zoom instead of using trackir to zoom. When you look at the shkval, zoom right in and it will use all possible pixels. Or output your shkval to second monitor, then it's very easy to identify targets. If you're still learning the cockpit, get the tooltips mod from the mods forum that shows you the key shortcuts it's great. Cheers

Terrain avoidance is engaged automatically??
TAIPAN_ replied to Snacko's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
When flying low, it will follow slight contours (because there is time to catchup). But when a hill comes, give the stick a pull and then let it come back to a steady level ride along the new terrain level. The best time to use altitude hold is along the ocean, no hills :) You can fly at 15m and alot of high aircraft won't take notice of you. Works well against ships as well, fly at one to block the guns of the others, so only one can shoot at your missiles. -
I find I can't really use them due to the AAA and manpads, I can't come down low enough to use them. Ideally a mission would direct you to hit the convoy when they approach an unguarded section. But on regular campaign I haven't used them much. However they are fun, I like the boom I get from my subs when the line of explosions goes off underneath me

Hi All, I've been googling for a bit but I've been unable to find a definitive answer, only some "I think" and "maybe" answers. What I want to know is, if I buy a seperate graphics card (Not SLI, just separate), with same drivers/brand, and plug my second monitor into that instead of my main card, will the GPU on the second card assist the performance of graphics output and help the frame rate? That means, will the load of the graphics output from DCS be split across the two cards depending on which monitor they are going to? Because I had read that only ONE graphics card does the processing, and just passes the flat image to the second card to display... if this is the case then I should just get a $50 graphics card for my second one and not a $200 one... Thanks!

He's unable because he's converted to Buddhism in the new patch and can't harm any living thing. If he is passive he is sure the enemy will not harm him and the enemy will get sad feelings if they do ;)

I thought it changed when you zoom in out, that's what I'm saying large resolution large or multiple monitor of course I will zoom out more as my preferred view. This IS a wider FOV it is not fixed. The only thing fixed is the initial fov when you start but as soon as you zoom in/out this changes.
-
It will change fov if I go to 2560x1600 wide, I will zoom out on startup to make use of all those pixels. I don't want 30" of just HUD :) Everything on high already. You are saying modellod is the file to update to fix it for single player? Above poster tried that...

TouchPal - Touchscreen Cockpit
TAIPAN_ replied to Gadroc's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I thought the keystrokes will at least work. I used before patch online. But status updates important for some like the auto pilot buttons otherwise you are looking and acting in 2 places. But I use my bottom monitor to display cockpit now because I know the layout better. And my touchscreen died so my 24" is going to bottom and a new 30" to top :) Acer are now making 23" wide touchscreens but I can't buy 2 at once :( -
Yes please definitely interested!
