Hi All, I've been practicing the F-15 lately and can pickup targets ok on the radar at range, and have managed to get a few with 120Cs. However there have been occasions when evading and travelling through the valleys I've suddenly spotted with eyeball planes flying past me, in front, next to me etc. Before I use AIM-9, I want to IFF properly. Now I turn on my radar, but they don't seem to pickup as it's moving too quickly I guess. The other problem - is often there's a friendly being chased. So my radar shows me the wrong thing, i.e. I see the enemy on the radar, but I see the friendly in visual. One occasion of this resulted in a friendly fire kill - SORRY hijack! I know teamspeak helps with this but often I find most of the players don't join the server teamspeak. I know this is a problem on busy servers, because just after this I was teamkilled by someone chasing the same enemies. So questions: Question 1 - When it's on one of those IFF-difficult maps that have F-15 on both sides of the conflict, what's the best way to QUICKLY IFF a close range plane and not lose the chance of surprise? Question 2 - If I turn on my radar, but don't find him, does it still give him a Radar Warning that I'm searching? Or does it have to find him for that to happen? Question 3 - Should we just stay OUT OF WVR combat altogether if in the F-15? The Russian birds that have the advantage here being able to lock with IRST and then flick into radar gives them instant IFF, plus the R-27ET etc, should I be extending after every BVR attack? Thanks

It's not "OLD STUFF" to me. There is no DCS: Su-25t, or any other decent modern sims for the other FC2 aircraft for that matter. Also until DCS does a fighter, FC2 won't be dropped by the community. I do hope that A-10C doesn't break the comatibility that FC2 has with DCS now. To do so would split the multiplayer community again, into two sets of servers. One for ground attack and one for AA only and we would no longer be able to fly the fun online war kind of maps such as the 104th currently hosts. It's not generating revenue, but that's because of the business model. Rise of Flight keeps getting patched every month because they are able to keep adding new planes for $. This works very well and every month our game is improved. Why not charge for an FC3 to work with A-10C? I know I would definitely pay for the upgrade, and for an FC4 to work with DCS: <insert 3rd module here> in 2016.

Attached is my DCS/FC2 profile, it's a modified version of one that one of the Naturalpoint guys made. Put the xml file in program files\naturalpoint\trackir\profiles. Make sure to assign the profile to the correct games in the trackir program or they won't auto-load. Seth_-_Flight.rar

I increased smoothing to 30. Plus increased the rate of movement on the pitch and yaw so that I don't have to turn or nod my head so far. Now just a small look down I can see my instruments.

I know someone who just purchased a warthog, who is now selling his U2nxt modded cougar setup. $1000 worth of gear apparently going cheap :). He's in Europe. I don't know what U2nxt is though.. I'm a CH guy myself! But let me know if you want his details you could get a bargain.

Hi Dovehawk, The manual is ok, but much better are the FlankerTraining videos. Once you finish the in-game training vids, head over to FlankerTraining's air to air page: http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/a2a.htm I'm just moving into trying the Fighters, after years flying the ground attack in the Ka-50 and Su-25t. It's quite fun once you get the hang of it and the flight models aren't so bad even if they aren't AFM like the Su-25t. Better than FSX anyway :)

Lock-On Flaming Cliffs Maps

OK then.. :wallbash: I hope you pay for games though! -
There are bundles it's way cheaper to buy them bundled.

Just watched a very funny video from a guy called Requiem. He does lots of training videos that are a must for newcomers. But this one in particular - I like the bloopers and laughed my head off at the flak bursts. It also shows off nicely the damage modelling:

Yeah the word is that the dynamic career will be in this same patch as the Gotha :) :) They do change things as they go however, so will wait and see but I am hopeful. It has been in development over 6 months.'

The Gotha bomber is getting closer, pre-order has become available. Screenshots and more info here: http://riseofflight.com/Blogs/post/2010/12/21/Pre-Order-Gotha-GV.aspx Here's one piccie:

Can you get close enough to mark your own targets with smoke? Are they accurate outside Manpads range?
-
Thanks for this! I can even use in su-25t while waiting for a-10 to become stable

If you're enemy is a D7f at high alt, or a Dr1 at any alt, then their speed is not that much slower. For those two you only attack twice then extend. If they have turned right onto you then you have to dive as they can't follow you without wing damage (D7f), or engine damage (Dr1). Rolling into inverted dive tricks them into thinking that you are split S coming back, but the neg G from pushing forward on the stick does you a favour by cutting you fuel to your engine so it doesn't over-rev. When you roll out and keep extending into a climb the revs come straight back as your engine re-ignites. If they have stopped following you can come back for another swipe. If they still give chase then you gotta keep going further and then climb again once out of gun range. Often their engine dies during one of the chases, either due to previous bullets from you or from making them dive with you. For other slower enemies, it is enough to come in with level or alt advantage, and after attack go up and loop. If they try to follow, once they have figured out where you are going and climb they will be very low energy and eventually they stall if they keep doing it. Their speed gets very low and at the top of one of the loops you roll so that the bottom of your loop becomes on their 6. If you want to turn, nothing beats the camel or the pup for a turner, but they are matched by good Dr1 pilots. The Hun planes are much easier to fly and learn, except the Dr1 it takes lots of patience and exact rudder control.

I've uninstalled FSX for good, along with all the addons I purchased. When I finally realised I actually didn't enjoy loading it and waiting 5 minutes for it to load (takes ages with terrain/weather etc) and then finding the planes are flying strangely. I also realised that my time with FSX was spent tweaking, researching addons, testing addons, categorising planes etc much more than actual flying. I know the out of the box game is just a platform, but I think probably because of the fact that they dumped it and stopped giving regular updates it is an incomplete platform. Directx 10 is just a preview, and many addons don't work with it. The flight model available is not very good for addon makers. After flying Su-25t, Ka-50, A-10C, Rise of Flight etc, flying FSX feels like there is no gravity. It was a hard thing to do removing it, with all the commitment I had put in building up addons and tweaking it, but I'm happier for it and I can focus on a specific sim for each era. Rise of flight, Battle of Britain, Jet Thunder (soon), and DCS series. The ability to fly combat missions in a sim makes it more enjoyable too. In the future I will look towards X-Plane 10 due in Feb/March I believe, as this could satisfy my civ sim fix if I need it.

Yeah I've been through all the various fighting types with these and several favourite planes. I've chosen boom n zoom in the end as it's the most long term satisfaction and the most survivable form of fighting. In the real war, even if the aircraft could turn well I don't believe they sat there doing donuts I think they took their shots and if the fight started getting towards the ground they ran back home to survive another day. SE5a was my favourite BnZ plane for a while as it's the fastest but it has 2 big problems: a) tendency to over-rev in dives even with throttle back b) rigged for lots of nose-up, means when injured you don't have the strength left to push forward on stick so you can not fly level to get home. Result is they catch you. So now I prefer SPAD, it's rugged, the fastest diver in the game, can take loads of abuse and still fly. It's gun position is also very stable and accurate compared to the SE5, and it seems to have a high rate of fire too. It performs well even up to around 2500metres, and if you get bounced by a D7f up there just do an inverted dive to cut the petrol to the engine. If he follows he will rip off his wings which is great to watch :) For german side BnZ, it's a high altitude affair. Up above 2000m the D7f does reign supreme, with altitude throttle. But on the deck even the camel can catch the D7f. The pfalz D12 is faster but turns and rolls terribly so is just a hit and run plane. The fokker D.VIII is a rotary energy fighter, so can perform a bit lower down but it's not as fast as the Spad/SE5a however it can turn better. Camel and turners are fun as well for a good adrenaline rush, but for me nothing beats a roaring engine and toying with an enemy from above in a plane he can never hope to catch vertically.

I get 60 in black shark and fc2. A tip for rise of flight. Put reflection and shadows and shaders medium. Put aa to 2 or off. Turn off post effects. It will still look good That is 60fps for me at 2560x1600 but I have high shadows.
-
Yeah ny fps is at 60 in Rise if flight. A-10c only gives me 30

Handley Page O/400 bomber being released tomorrow :) New video from a beta tester here:

I don't care for overrall server stats, as I only play once a month online and could be any server. All I want to see is how I've done during the "mission". If I've completed the mission with only one virtual life, and what I've contributed.

ok got it setup, with the patch and skin pack. Lots of skins great :) Figured I had to turn off wheel brakes due to my forward flip on take off, so I read the quick start in the manual and got up in the air. Turned up anisotropic and AA to 16x, and the ground textures look quite nice. Better than IL-2. The flight models are more than I expected, I tried some maneuvers I do in ROF biplanes and spins and spin recovery. Some cool sound effects warn when you stress the plane too :) Short of time to read the manual at the moment, but will do more bit by bit. Anyway I'm up and running thanks!
-
Also are there any other skin packs I should get? Or are all included in 2.11?
-
Thanks! So - dual-throttle for dual-engine planes? Or are you thinking of like a slider to control prop-pitch? I have 2 sliders, which I normally use for mixture and radiator in rise of flight I could use for something like mixture and prop pitch. TRIM I would use the hat switch just like the A-10C, since I have trackir I don't need a hat :)
-
Hi Bucic, I only just notice this thread. Thinking of giving it a go. I assume I just need to buy the game and put on 2.11? Then - is there any ultra-mod pack out there? Or can you give a recommended list of mods or a mod web site? Cheers

Also a big bug is that you lose your score if the connection drops out and you reconnect. Anyone know if this will be fixed? Dcs/fc2 is the only game I ever saw with this issue.
