Okay yeah at that resolution a better system would be better in general. I play single player at 4k, I also using vsync@60fps because I use a track ir. As for your dram, I dont remember seeing many people loading 4x8gb sticks into your motherboard successfully. Im not saying its not possible. I had a quick look around and at your motherboards spec. I personally think that finding a set of 4x4gb sticks of matching Corsair Vengeance ddr3 XMP 1600 C8 or C9 will be your best bet. Online auctions for used stuff is your best option. Prices seem to be decent and there is plenty available. What is you CPU please mate? Trying to work out a mild to moderate overclock might be an option for you. I think I have a notebook buried somewhere from my 2700k Z77 system. Finally out of curiosity what gpu are you using mate?

If you do get stuck feel free to send me a pm. Never mind helping anyone out.

Only if your on a budget I would go for a AMD 3600 non X and overclock it in Ryzen Master. The motherboard Thinder recommended or similar with 3200mhz ddr4 preferably C16 but C18 would be ok. Check the motherboards QVL list for memory compatibility. Check to see which ddr4 you can buy that will work in a configuration of 4x8gb sticks. That way you can start off with just 16gb and upgrade to 32gb of you feel you need it later on. A nvidia 2060 super will drive a 1080p panel about as fast as the 3600 cpu can go. Without a budget and if your planning on going to 1440p or 4k. An AMD 5600x, B550 mobo again 3200mhz ddr4 and whatever gpu you can afford. I would personally go for Nvidia.
-
Basically what Thinder said, JEDEC#2 518mhz, JEDEC#3 592mhz, JEDEC#4 666mhz and XMP-1600 800mhz I know mhz is speed but haven't a clue what the rest means. This shows the speed the dram can run at. Dram can be run at several speeds and this shows all the speeds the dram is rated to run at. If I was you I would go to a popular auction site and look for two more sticks of the exact Corsair dram you have. Match the model number. So you then have 4x4gb sticks giving you 16gb. It would be the cheapest option for speed and stability. It just being Corsair doesn't guarantee compatibility. As different sets of dram can have different memory chips on them. Its best to use the same model of memory. If you want 32gb go and find 4x8gb matching sticks rated for XMP-1600 for the best performance. I dont know how much you would benefit from have 32gb though Sandybidge is getting on a bit now. How do you play DCS, single or multi player and at what resolution?

Very Basic 6800XT vs 3080 Question
Bossco82 replied to jasonbirder's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I bought a MSI 6800xt recently but sent it back due to a vbios problem causing severe crashes at the desktop and web browsing. I could sometimes get into a game to see how it performed. In DCS I use a 4k screen with 60hz vsync. I didn't like how the 6800xt performed at all, however it could have been down to the vbios or even a driver problem. In open areas, on the Supercarrier and up high it was fine, DCS used 12gb of vram maximum. However down low or trying to land at Dubai, different story it could not maintain 60 fps. I use the F-18 mission "Valley Run" as a benchmark and never saw over about 46-52fps with the 6800xt. I am now happily back on my 2080ti which never drops 60fps vsync. I am now waiting until the stocks of 3080's normalises. Like I said it could have been the vbios problem but it also used more electric at the wall than my 2080ti does when playing DCS or IL-2. The 6800xt was ok in IL-2, however same problem, on such as a railyard strike diving into the town fps drops were common. Quite simply my 2080ti out performed it. On the flipside games such as Battlefield 5, Call of Duty WW2 and Sniper Elite 4. Just like my 2080ti it maintained 60fps on ultra setting at 4k. However it did it using about 80 watts less electricity and lower clock speeds. I was very exited to try RDNA2 and setup my system with a 5600x and X570 mobo to take advantage of 6gb vram with SAM. I dont have enough info to make a solid judgement but I think Nvidia might be the best for flight sims. An additional note as there is a lot of discussion about vram. My 2080ti never runs into a problem with 11gb. I use MSI Afterburner beta to measure actual usage. Again I am using a 4k screen on high/ultra settings with trees and clutter set to 100%. Nevada 6800mb, Caucuses 7500mb down low over trees, Persian Gulf 8000mb over Dubai, Syria 9600mb again down low. You have to take the 2080ti's bandwidth into account though. I cant see the 3080 having a problem with 10gb. I think Nvidias memory management might be superior to AMD's. -
If you are on a budget I can confirm that an AMD 3600 non X CPU will run DCS just fine at high ish settings. Its really only over areas such as landing at Dubai using VR or 4k you would need something more powerful like an a AMD 5600x. Also I use 32gb of 3200mhz C16 DDR4, again I use a 4k screen so you might be ok with 16gb. A B550 motherboard from any manufacturer should be ok too. As for a GPU it depends on what you can get and the resolution you use. When I had a 1080p screen I had a 2060 super and that was more than enough. Now I use 4k I have a 2080ti. I have had both AMD and Nvidia, so far I have found Nvidia performs slightly better especially down low. Not much in it though. It would be easier to advise you if I knew what screen you plan to use for the next year or so. Also what settings do you like to use and do you use vsync or prefer the highest fps possible?
-
Hi Lee1, Using CPUZ please check your motherboard manufacturer model and chipset, it will be under the section "Mainboard" Then give us your CPU, Intel or AMD and the model. Then we can advise you further. What DDR, either 2,3 or 4 are you running now and what is the speed please?, it will be in CPUZ under "SPD" Regardless of the above for 32gb. It is best to use either 2x16gb sticks or 4x8gb sticks. Again this will rely on what your motherboard and cpu combination support. You can go to your motherboards manufacturers website and check the QVL list for memory compatibility.

What gpu do you reccomend for VR?
Bossco82 replied to jonatron5's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I can second buying a used 2080ti if you can find one at the right price. I love mine. My brother has a MSI 3070 Suprim and in DCS my 2080ti is a little better. The 3070 fps dips when over Dubai low, my 2080ti holds its refresh rate. Probably look for an EVGA one boxed with some warranty left. -
Animal Freeride, if that is your actual man cave in those photo's I am going to turn so green with envy I will actually look like swamp thing!!! Sean Connery cushions and a Top Gun hat, if you did a home improvement programme I would watch it. The only thing missing is a drinks globe filled with several decanters of 30 year old scotch! Bravo my friend Bravo!

6800XT weird behaviour
Bossco82 replied to Oberst Struppi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sounds like your CPU limited to me mate. I upgraded from an AMD 3600 to a 5600x. DCS will use up that clock speed, I noticed a difference from upgrading. I run a 2080ti at 4k, not as powerful as your 6800xt though but I was slightly cpu limited with the 3600 in an environment such as the Supercarrier fully loaded. -
Hi Guys, I like some others recently have had stuttering looking around with the Track IR. At first I thought it was a game issue as the problem would come and go and sometimes be worse than others. At first I thought it might be something to do with an update in DCS itself. For me it wasn't, it is a problem with my Track IR 5. Things I tried at first,,, Check Windows Updates, GPU Scheduler, On/Off, Windows Game Mode, On/Off, Check Nvidia drivers and settings, Nothing made a bit of difference and what made it worse was the problem would come and go. Eventually I got fed up and decided to have a fly around in a popular brand of WW2 Sim. Soon realising that had exactly the same problem. After much internet searching I found some old posts back from 2010 on another flight sim forum reporting exactly the same problem. I did everything suggested and so far it seems to have solved the problem. They are as follows, Using task manager I set the Track IR priority to High Disabled any power saving features for USB's. In Device Manager and Power Settings. Plugged the Track IR into a powered USB hub I don't know which of these had the biggest impact but after doing all three I am back to smooth viewing in both flight sims. I also don't know the cause as I have updated my X570 bios ready for my new 5600x. Windows also recently updated to Win 10 Pro version 20H2. My MSi X570 motherboard has always been a bit sketchy on the USB front. My X56 hotas can only use the two ports in the middle of the IO. If I use any others I get ghosting on the throttle. Along the way I discovered setting Latency to "Ultra" in NV setting improved both sims. Hope this helps as I have been pulling my hair out for a couple of weeks with this one.

Hi Flappie, Thanks again mate, no nothing like that mate. I dont have any custom profiles for any games I use. I sometime run with afterburner on to check usage and framerate. Ive done that for ages and never had a problem before. I am running resource monitor today to see if I can spot any usage spikes in the background. I actually have very little software installed on my machine as its a gaming rig. I have always tried to keep my gaming machines OS as clean as possible. The other thing I am trying today is to roll back to an older NV driver, probably back to 446 maybe. I cant help but suspect this change came when the NV driver were adapted to the 3000 cards and I have a 2080ti. The other thing thats worth mentioning is its not a throttling problem my system runs very cool and my cpu or gpu rarely hit their maximum clocks. Edit. I'm pretty happy I have solved my problems by going back to August NV drivers. I checked resource monitor and Corsair ICue had updated and was starting on startup again, for some reason it was causing a problem. I blame ICue on my sudden pauses. I blame the NV drivers on my look around Track IR stutter or loss of smoothness. The only place I still have it is my F-16C, looking around the cockpit is quite laggy. My Tomcat and Hornet are super smooth again.

Hi MileHi, Go into defender and under the virus settings there is an option for exclusions. Just click add then point it to the programs installation folder and saved game folder. Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm not at my PC. It does help improve DCS performance. Let me know if you need more details.

Thanks for the tip Flappie. Problem is I already have that setup, Ive been building computers to fly flight sims since 2000. I dont claim to be a Windows systems expert by any means. However the usual fixes for a flight sim stutter problem are not working this time. The only thing that reduced it by about 50% is the "full screen optimisation disabled" option. I am stumped on this one. After a month trying fixes I got so fed up I didn't fire up DCS for a couple of weeks when I usually find and hour or two a day. I happens regardless of settings high/low. Or the scenario, ie on the Supercarrier in PG or flying high and checking six. Its more of a sudden single pause than a stutter. Thanks again for the thought though mate.

Hi Guys, Just to add I have the very same problem, my comp specs are high... Ryzen 3600 @ 4.5 32gb DDR4 3200 C16 2080ti 1tb nvme drive Running DCS Beta with very latest Win 10. On a 4k flatscreen @ 60fps vsync with Track IR5. When I installed my 2080ti in Sept 2020 the game ran butter smooth. My problem now is like a sudden pause or stutter. Turning settings down to low makes no difference. GPU Schedule on or off makes no difference. I think my problems started after the last update. I was using the latest drivers 460.89, rolled back to August 2020 452.06. Still no difference. Just an edit after testing, its not 100% gone but much much better. Things I changed that didn't work, Using DCS beta or stable Change NV drivers Roll back Win 10 updates Reinstall Win 10 updates GPU Schedule on/off Game Mode on/off Delete shader folders. This made a big difference, "Set to run as Admin" and "Disable full screen optimisations" The thing is I had those option set in the properties if the DCS application anyway, I always have. Sometime since November something reset those option which is why I never checked them. Could have been DCS, Windows or NV drivers, who knows. GPU clock usage dropped too.

I have one and I am more than happy with it. I prefer it to the X52 Pro. I have never owned or tried a Thrustmaster though.

Hi Sublime, Go to the campaign folder that is inside the DCS or DCS.beta saved games folder. Depends what version your using. Inside the folder is another folder named "Init" Inside that folder is the Path file. Right click that and click "Edit" check the file pathways match your install. The other file is "Confmod" there is sometimes a filepath in that too.

Hi Guys, I just tried the Falcon Over PG campaign and I get this error when I exit the first mission. The mission has been completed. Any help appreciated, cheers. Edit! I fixed this just in case anyone else has a similar problem. Check in the Init Folder. When I checked the Path file I missed that it had "set "pathSavedGames=Saved Games\DCS.beta" corrected it to "set "pathSavedGames=Saved Games\DCS" All works fine again now.

I don't know if you would run into any problems using 4400mhz with that Patriot kit on an AMD system. However I found someone using that kit at 3600mhz speeds at C14 timings so it would be very fast dram. We would know more when the AMD 5000 series are released. Just remember these kits always say "up to" 4400mhz. I would say anything around 3600mhz and c14 would be a very nice sweet spot. I use 2x16gb 3200mhz C16 dram with an AMD 3600 and I dont have any problems with performance in DCS using 4K or VR

I might be able to help, have you tried using the USB connection without a splitter? I had a problem with this ages ago and it was when I switched from an Antec AIO to a Corsair one. There was a conflict in the USB drivers somewhere. I have the latest version of Corsair software working fine on Win 10 but I dont use a USB splitter, mine is connected on its own to the motherboard. I would try it without the USB splitter. Also try downloading the USB drivers for your motherboard and re-install them. Finally even without the Corsair software installed the fans should run off the pump connections they will just run at 100% if the software does not control them. As for the pump I think it has a fixed speed. For example mine reports 2272-2292 rpm and does not change with the temperature. -
Your limited by your screens resolution not the games. 1080p on a 32" monitor will show less sharpness in the details than a 1440p or 4k screen.

I recently changed my setup. I have not done any benchmarks so these are my observations from using my PC and DCS. I had a regular 250gb M2 SSD with my OS and programs. Then I had a Sata 3 SSD 1gb as a game drive. Both were Crucial MX500's. This setup was already fast. However, there was a good offer on so I swapped to put everything on a 1tb Sabrent NVME drive. The differences in the real world are minimal. My OS loads faster but it was fast anyway, its almost instant now and it took about 15 seconds before. DCS and its missions/campaigns load a few seconds faster. However its the actual game loading that is noticeably quicker. However again 5-10 seconds maybe thats all. The one thing that has gone completely is when I fly on Persian Gulf in DCE campaigns I would have the occasional stall or pause for just over a second. It was rare and would not happen on every mission, I would say 1 out of 3. I have been running this NVME drive about a month now and that pause has not happened once. All of my other hardware is the same as before. I even cloned the OS so I did not do a fresh start. I copied the DCS install too with all the same save game folders. Other games loaded much faster though. I like the Battlefield series but its a PITA waiting for it to load up. The NVME drive did speed this up a lot. I now run this single NVME setup with an external HDD mechanical for back ups.

I like the simplicity and reliability of a large air cooler. Now my AIO is getting on for about 5 years old I do keep an ear out for the pump failing. The weight is a problem. I only heard of one case. I replaced a motherboard where a Thermalright Silver Arrow broke the cpu socket on the motherboard. This was during a house move though! -

As for de-lidding I have done it with the debaurer tool. Any doubts though get someone with experience to do it. Made a big difference on a 9900k I used to own. Again though it didn't make a scrap of difference while gaming in the real world. The temps were obviously lower but it was pointless as they were not overly high when gaming before I did it. For example gaming before 65 degrees C, gaming de-lidded 50 degrees C. That was with the fans on my AOI turned low. I just had the kit and a free weekend. -

Bossco82 replied to Harlikwin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi Harlikwin, I use to have custom water cooling back in the days of overclocking Intels 2600k's to 5Ghz. However I have been using Corsair 240mm AIO coolers for the last 8 years on my own machine. I think you need a USB connection for all of Corsairs, Antecs and NZXT's coolers, (I may be wrong). I think most of the AIO coolers are fairly similar now and a 240 AIO roughly matches a big tower air cooler in the real world. The only model I know for sure doesn't use a USB connection is the Coolermaster 240 Lite. I fitted one for someone at the beginning of this year. Pump goes to CPU fan header and the PWM fans have a splitter for the PWM fan header. It was an easy install cooling a 9700k and as far as I know is still working just fine. He does long online FPS gaming sessions.
