Aircraft Carriers

We see 2016 as a big year for aircraft carrier operations as we plan to release both Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier modules. Both of these modules will be incredibly detailed models with working elevators, interior hanger bays, animated ship systems, and the ability to walk around inside the ships. These will be optional modules that would replace the existing ships currently in DCS World.

and some pics:

I expected ED team put more info about that modules.

But meanwhile, I put some question over the table.

-We have finally ship countermeasures and ECM installed on ships?

-The Ship AI get offensive and defensive manoeuvres to reach under incoming threats?

-That is the start of DCS: W "navy" branch, with more modules (frigates / destroyers / FACs / subs)?

-Better ship weapons improvements?

-We will see pilot-able modules or any type of crew system into that modules?

Best rewards.

I just want to know where I can sign up to volunteer as a technical consultant/ tester on the Nimitz- class?

Also, does this mean we'll see players able to pick up LSO slots, with functional wave-off/ clear deck/ foul deck lights, and the ability to rig the barrier?

I don't think i would buy such a thing unless it let me control the other ships in game too, and use their system a little more realistically. I would love for that to happen, to be honest.

Squadron ready rooms? Mess halls? Sick bay? Primary Flight Control? Navigation Bridge? CIC? The head?

Goodness, this is becoming much too real...

For the Nimitz class, I'm thinking probably island and O-3 through hangar bay deck only, which would give us ready rooms, the dirty shirt wardroom, catapult/ arresting gear spaces, CATCC, CVIC, SSES, CDC, Maintenance Control, Strike Ops Planning, and various shops. Oh, and the barber shop, the f'o'c'sl, and the TV studio. And 2 of the three gyms.

As soon as you drop below the hangar bay things get horrifyingly complex very, very quickly, with all the divisional offices, machinery spaces, switchboard rooms, mess decks fore and aft, main medical, the bowling alley...

So how many hornets will it take slamming into the back of the carriers before they sink?

Me thinks we will find out...

Depends how realistic the ship's model is. But needless to say, it would take a lot.

I take it they've fixed the moving about the deck bug..

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Hopefully, it does look promising with the amount of attention and focus the carriers are getting.

I really hope that they allow for a large number of human spawn points aboard the carriers. They know which types of a/c are able to spawn on board - F/A-18C, and the F-14 at some point in the future, and make allowances for additional AI a/c such as the E-2's and S-3's. It shouldn't be too difficult to come up with a parking scheme that would allow for a large number of us to start off on a mission together. Especially if they are going to model the hanger deck and functioning elevators - if only for the AI a/c. The same would apply to the Kuznetsov.

Being able to take command of the ship and direct it's speed and heading would be a HUGE bonus!

With the note found in the newsletter about players being able to walk around, I think the speculation that you spawn in some type of briefing room first is plausible. This would also alleviate the need for a great abundance of parking, as you wouldn't leave the lower decks until it's near time for your takeoff - or AC spawn queue...

That was part of the discussion back when they were talking about naval/carrier operations. To what extent we can control, well we will have to wait a bit longer to find out.

To be honest, controlling a carrier isn't going to really be that exciting, at least not for a Nimitz.

Launch: turn into the wind, set speed to provide optimal wind over the deck, while providing enough reactor power margin to launch from all four catapults in a timely manner.

Continue until the end of the designated operation area, then set a slower bell, wait for the ship to slow down, call the DDG's and CG's in your screen so they can get out of the way, turn 180 degrees slowly enough not to heel the ship over too far, then call up for full speed to sprint down to the end of the operating area, turn around, and do it all over again.

Recovery: stay straight into the wind and maintain speed such that the wind over the deck is as needed.

Rinse and repeat.

Not to mention depending on the maximum number of planes on deck that can be simulated at any time, it could turn into a real nightmare for pathfinding AI to keep the planes from all bumping into each other or locking the deck. Coordinating the movements and placements of all the planes on deck is as much a science as it is an art form.

Now, if we get to play with the other ships in the battle group, giving orders for EMCON, land attack missions, engaging other fleets or submarines, *that's* when it'll start being fun.

Take account the CIC, with radar, ESM systems, ECM systems, others countermeasures, Phalanx, RAM and Sparrow / ESSM missile system, radio, etc.

The operation personal planning missions with the CAG control and launching and recovery operations.

With today's newsletter,I'm excited that were getting fully functional carriers.Hopefully this will lead to a Naval Combined Arms simulator someday.I hope we get the Harpoon ASM with the Hornet so we can sink the Russian carrier and it's supporting fleet.

Never happen.

Without going into the "why," I'll just say that you're absolutely right.

Ah yes, because in DCS units are represented by health bars...

I'm sure it can happen in DCS - figured we'd find out on a multiplayer server while people are learning how to land on a pitching carrier deck.

What aircraft can we use on these carriers when these carrier upgrades are released? Which aircraft will be able to take advantage of all the equipment and landing/takeoff catapults/arresting gear?

What aircraft currently can use the aircraft carriers we have now?

Current: Su-33, any helicopter (sort of).

Future: Tomcat, Hornet, Harrier, (probably) Corsair, Bearcat, (maybe) Vampire, (maybe) Hawk (if somebody does a Goshawk mod).

Back in the LOMAC days, there was a MiG-29K mod, and an Su-25UTG. DOn't know if we'll get those again though...

Yep. All I can say is it's below hangar deck level. Anything more, and I'd have to kill you. ;)

pretty funny I was on an aircraft carrier and there was no bowling alley.:)
