Eddie Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 http://www.thrustmaster.fr/product.aspx?ProductID=168&PlatformID=5 Something else to buy when DCS:A10C comes out I think. I know I will be.
sweinhart3 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Does anyone know if there is someplace you can get MFD with functional displays? Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64 http://picasaweb.google.com/sweinhart
Flim Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 You will need 6.5 or 6.4 lcd screeens . Just mount the bezel to the screens with Velcro .
Boulund Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 (edited) My opinion of this is that if there isn't going to be lcd-screens inside the frames you might as well stick to the keyboard. I'd say people interested in buying these would most definitely go buy third part lcd-screens and put inside the frames anyway, so cost isn't really an issue. TM could just put "their own" usb-powered lcd display inside the frame and go for the full package instead of selling a half baked product like this. edit: I just saw form the other thread about this that the price isn't very high at all. It's in fact quite cheap. Hmm... maybe I'll revise my statement a bit ;) Edited September 4, 2009 by Boulund Core i5-760 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Geforce GTX470, Samsung SATA HDD, Dell UH2311H 1920x1080, Saitek X52 Pro., FreeTrack homemade cap w/ LifeCam VX-1000, Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1. Eddie Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 edit: I just saw form the other thread about this that the price isn't very high at all. It's in fact quite cheap. Hmm... maybe I'll revise my statement a bit ;) Exactly. The last similar product was the CH MFP, which was also quite a bit more expensive for just a single unit. CH MFPs have been a common sight in the Falcon 4 world for a long time, I don't know about the Lock-On world, but many have been looking for a cheaper alternative. They are what they are, extra controllers to compliment your HOTAS, and I think they will be excellent for that. Obviously you don't have to map them to MFD OSBs, but personally that's exactly what I'll be doing in DCS:A10C. Having physical buttons to press is always much faster and more immersive than clicking a mouse on the screen, even if those physical buttons don't have a screen in the middle of them. Of course, there is nothing to stop anyone going out and grabbing a 5" screen or something and attaching these to the front. I tell you, with Dual HOTAS systems popping up left and right and now these, I'm beginning to think that Flight Sims may be coming up on a second golden age with the impending relase of A10C and projects from other developers (Lead Persuit for example). Here's hoping eh..........
hannibal Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 forget that..im just going to make my own when A-10C comes out.. not only i will incorporate buttons, but rotary switches that provide input for when i rotate CW and CCW... i just might make them illuminated too.. good luck finding 5- 6.5 inch LCD displays... 7" are more common and cost effective.. find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179
Flim Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 well, In my production F-16 sim, 7 inch LCD's ( samsung 7 inch USB) will work perfect. They are about $100 plus shipping on ebay. I have the LCd mounted in my cockpit and now I'm waiting for thrustmaster!
deadsmell Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Hey guys maybe you can help understand how this thing is actually going to work. If I understand correctly, you wont be able to actually use one of those screens as your "shkval" even though it shows in the picture some sort of targeting cam being displayed. right? Its just got some lights that light behind cardboard cut outs or something. Be cool if they made it so you could at least use one of the screens as a full blown targeting cam. Its still cool to have some extra lights and buttons though. Also I couldnt find any pricing info on the detail pages. You guys mind enlightening me as to the price? Thanks. Dont let the smell get to ya...............

They don't have screen, just 2 bits of plexiglass so you can slip a picture of your choice with key assignments etc on. Price is 79.99 Euros per set of two.

Deadman Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 AFAIK the USB screen will not work for falcon has any body gotten them to work with BS? IF not then only small monitors with regular cables will work? well, In my production F-16 sim, 7 inch LCD's ( samsung 7 inch USB) will work perfect. They are about $100 plus shipping on ebay. I have the LCd mounted in my cockpit and now I'm waiting for thrustmaster! https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
CyBerkut Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 TM's suggested retail is $79.99 USD Link to the manual: http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=298&cid=6 The product has removable plexiglas sheets (where a screen would be) for holding the supplied, or custom, inserts. The software can control up to 8 of these MFDs (4 sets). [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Flim Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 AFAIK the USB screen will not work for falcon has any body gotten them to work with BS? IF not then only small monitors with regular cables will work? Well, you are mistaken!
CyBerkut Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Flim, could you elaborate a bit more on that? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
deadsmell Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 You guys will have to forgive my ignorance, Im not as savvy as most of you lol. (not as much money either lol). Im still not sure what this will actually do out of the box other than light up and provide some more programmable buttons. At this point im pretty sure those two screen things are picture frames for pictures of your family. :) Fear not, as I am sure one of you will no doubt have one in your home soon, and when you do........please make a demonstration video. :) Dont let the smell get to ya...............
Deadman Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Realy then may be you can explain this to me or how your doing it? You will clearly see in Lighting'S post There are other post similar on vp . http://www.viperpits.org/smf/index.php?topic=6.495 Well, you are mistaken! https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

-Bazong- Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 For a small business owner you realy need to work on your communication skill. "More Info will come later" seams clear enough to me :smilewink: I'm also very interested in whether/how well usb screens work with DCS, I'd love to have the Abris, Shkval and flight instruments displayed on two or three screens below the main view screen.. My understanding is that the Shkval cannot be viewed on a USB screen but the Abris can(?) Anyway, I'll wait for the PCIP and hope that these things become easier to set up then.. Regarding these MFD's, I personally find them quite pointless without screens.. But they're quite cheap, so I'd definetly consider buying and using them along with two usb screens..
159th_Viper Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 Have been interested myself........Can anyone clarify with certainty whether the USB Screens are capable of displaying either the Shkval or the ABRIS? Regarding these MFD's, I personally find them quite pointless without screens.. But they're quite cheap, so I'd definetly consider buying and using them along with two usb screens.. +1 Would'nt it be nifty if the MFD Info re the A-10C module could be ported to the USB screens.........Hog-Heaven, so to Speak! But they're quite cheap, so I'd definetly consider buying and using them along with two usb screens.. I think I can understand the draw for this type hardware, especially for the more-than-casual flight simmer. This type device seems to me to add immersion and extra buttons, both of which are never available in sufficient quantity! :smilewink: It's really no different than using something like Touchbuddy where I may have, for example, on another screen a background image of a panel (including MFD type displays). I usually put some relevant information in the screen area to aid in using the panel or MFD. Thi9s is similar to what TM has done with the overlays ,(eh, I guess they're underlays!). I don't have the room (or the talent :megalol:) for a full simpit, though I'd dearly love one. A pair of these MFD devices for only ~$70 US goes a long way to increasing the realism. And I have seen the asking prices for more realistic MFD frames for the more serious in our crowd! These from TM are a bargain if they don't collapse under use. 28 buttons per MFD = 56 buttons and that is about a buck and a quarter US per switch. Believe me, I have priced switchology at a lot more than that during my pit-building fantasy excursions :joystick: Besides, I have a cute VGA 7" touchscreen I'm not using that might be a partial fit somewhere! :smilewink: WH_Blaster (Larry) US Air Force (Retired, 1961-1981) Join us for fun with the DCS series and other games at the War Hawks Squad website ... we are a mature gaming group that enjoys realism and having fun! http://war-hawks.net System: i7=950 @ 3.3 GHz, GA-X58-UDR3 MB, 6GB RAM, GTX770, 256GB system SSD, 128GB gaming SSD, TIR5, TM HOTAS WH, HannsG 28-in, Acer 23-in touch screen.
Deadman Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Well Film the answer was not that hard to find not like its a trade secret or any thing. Now we just have to wait and see how we will be able to export the Multi-Function Colour Displays .Ya, but he is wrong- or he might be right based on his software! All I can say it will work , and work well. I will be able to talk more down the road! Don't get upset
Deadman Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 (edited) Well not a very good one lol. There is absolutely no reason I would get upset Film . I don't plan on buying any thing that is not a real A-10 part.
