Hi everyone, The 5" mounts on the Essex appear to track aircraft but, in the majority of tests I've run, only actually engage below 2500 ft. In the tracks below I have a single Ju 88 A-4 at various altitudes that should be well within the engagement envelope of the guns. The only track where the guns engage reliably is the 2.4k ft track. The other thing is the range at which the guns start firing - according to the linked trajectory chart, the upper-limit of the range should be around 15000 yards (~13.7 km) for a target flying at 10,000 ft and around 16000-17000 yards (~14.5-15.5 km) maximum for a target at 2500 ft. In DCS however, the guns first start firing at around 1.5 nautical miles (or about 3000 yards or about 2.8 km) and only get a single salvo off (and even then, not all the mounts engage) before the carrier is overflown. Each gun should be able to fire at a rate of 15-22 rounds per minute (or 30-44 rounds per Mk 32 mount, as used on the Essex). Part of the range issue may be down to the directors (Mk 37 GFCS), whose radar ranges (for the Mark 12) are half of what they should be (they also are defined with the wrong frequency range). In Essex_Class_Carrier_1944.lua, the director's "distanceMax" is set to 25 km. The Mark 12 radar (the rectangular antenna on top of the director, mark 22 is the elliptical antenna beside it) should be able to track bomber-sized targets out to ~41 km [source] Suffice to say, these issues drastically limit the effectiveness of these guns. The last KC-10 was delivered to the bone yard. Can we get it as a new tanker in DCS within the next decade? - Real life pilots said it was the best thing to tank from. - 300,000lb of fuel to give - something new.

Hi everyone, The Split Air is a French group of pilots and modders on DCS that you maybe know from Virtual Air Festivals airshows with some of our teams such as the Wolf Delta or the Rafale solo display and many more. We're also known for our previously published mods, such as the Rafale/M2000ND and OV-10A Bronco, which have been well-received by the DCS community. Our upcoming project represents a significant leap in quality for DCS free mods: the Alphajet. If you don’t know this trainer jet, you will love to fly it on DCS World when the mod will be ready. The mod will offer the best fidelity, featuring a specific EFM ! We put a special attention into the flight model with a new modelisation, as far as we can say the result is perfect. For now, you can catch a sneak peek of the project's progress on our Discord server. The mod is currently 80% complete and we are giving the maximum to have it fully ready as soon as possible. Help us by showing your support in sharing the news and fly it when it will be out. We can’t wait to see the community flying this wonderful aircraft. Join us on the Split Air Discord server or other social networks https://linktr.ee/splitair

Hi, yesterday I launched 4 LD-10 in active mode to a WPT, they lofted but during the descent the missiles started tracking a friendly F-14 (player controlled) that was moving away from me (and the missiles) so I don't think the ARMs were tracking his radar. Is it possible they were tracking its jammer (not sure if it was active or not) or it may be a bug? Right now I can't access my PC but if it turns out being a weird behaviour of the missiles I'll attach the track file

Hello, We have been working on a Cheetah C for DCS the past 2-3 months and we have been making good progress on developing some systems in the EFM. We decided to make the Discord server public for anyone wanting to tag along. It is still very far from something enjoyable so it will take a while, like more than a year to my rough estimation. We are developing this for ourselves to enjoy so we want to have it as best as we can and therefore we are going to take it as far as we can, even try to make it a module if we can meet all the requirements for ED. Even though it looks promising so far, we are not there yet, we still have two or three holes to fill in our collection of information before we can consider that. Otherwise it will be a mod without the features the SDK has to offer. About the Cheetah C The Cheetah is a third generation multi-mission combat aircraft developed by Atlas Corporation (now Denel Aviation) for the SAAF (South African Air Force). It was to replace the Mirage F-1AZ and Mirage F-1CZ fighters during the Angolan war in the 80's to be able to take on the MiG-23 with its superior radar and longer range missiles. Sanctions were placed on South Africa at the time so acquisition of any weaponry was not a trivial task and South Africa was forced to be self sufficient. However, with no prior experience in developing aircraft other than modifications to Mirages and local assembly, South Africa looked for more feasible solutions. Israel had a close eye on South Africa and were already prepared when South Africa approached. Other variants were first developed, D - a trainer, and E - an interim variant while the more advanced C variant was being developed. Each variant has its own origins with the E, D and R variants more closely related. The C's were likely to have been made from old low hour Kfir C2 and possibly some C1 frames with technology borrowed from newer aircraft such as the Kfir C10 and Lavi. The engine, Snecma ATAR 09-K50-C11 from Mirages as South Africa already had many and could not get the more powerful American made General Electric engines from Israel. The Cheetah's were retired from the SAAF in 2008, today they are flying with the Ecuadorian Air Force and Draken International. Where we are (2022/07) 3D Model: Basic cockpit layout (very ugly) Basic external model (inaccurate) We have a nice clickable MFD and MFCD. Very nice accelerometer. A few other gauges and switches that aren't good enough to be mentioned. The cockpit is currently being remodeled by someone more capable. External model will also be remodeled by someone that is proficient. Systems: We have a 90% complete electrical system. The other 10% account for things I overlooked that I am not aware of. All buses are implemented, connected with relays and switches, and ready to be used by the avionics and other consumers, the alternators are connected to the engine with logic to simulate real behavior: Battery Two alternators Two transformer rectifiers Inverter There are a total of 5 AC buses and 4 DC buses. Needs proper testing once we have progressed with the cockpit 3D model. About 75% complete fuel system. All fuel tanks internal and external are implemented (including the negative-G accumulator). They have their capacities, fuel quantities and unusable fuel amounts. Refueling procedures for aerial and gravity refueling (the order in which the tanks are filled changes as well as the amount that is refuellable). The Cheetah C has a switch to change the order in which the tanks are depleted to maintain centre of gravity that is within safety parameters as fuel is consumed - this switch is implemented (no switch model though). The fuel system still requires its fuel pumps and we still need to attach the correct external tanks given a specific external fuel amount from DCS - not difficult, just still a todo. And of course **a lot of testing** is still outstanding. Engine is about 5-10% complete. It idles at the correct RPM for any given altitude. It consumes fuel in a seemingly accurate manner but changes to the engine performance will influence this so it is still too soon to say. The calculations may be correct, the values it is using in the calculations are not correct yet. Many systems of the engine still needs to be implemented. In terms of avionics we have: MFD: On/Off switch with "INDEX" display/menu and the entire "LIST" display family (display family -> collection of pages and subpages). The LIST display family consists of a series of "checklist" or "notes" displays that are made by the pilot during mission planning, these are typically mission specific. This information is loaded onto the aircraft via a data cartridge which we simulate with a JSON file that is editable. We include preset data cartridge files for each map as these include approach procedures for airfields relevant to the mission to give one example. A small desktop application is also in the works to create, edit and load preset data cartridges. MFCD: It is currently only showing a work in progress TSD that displays heading, heading circles, current position, radar targets, waypoints and airfields. We still need to add other symbology like railways, roads, rivers and the flight path. HUD: One of the many modes are currently work in progress, the most used mode - TACNAV. Accelerometer. Our immediate focus (2022/07) 3D Model: Good quality basic cockpit shape. Electrical panel - to test the electrical system. Circuit breaker panel - to further test the electrical system. Fuel panel - to test the fuel system. NMS (Navigation Mode Selector) switch - to interact with various modes and continue development on HUD, MFD and MFCD. Engine start panel. Systems: Test and finish the electrical system. "Finish" is short of adding failures to the electrical system when it is getting abused which will definitely be added. In parallel with the above connect MFD, HUD, gauges etc with the electrical system. Finish fuel system and integrate pumps with electrical system. Continue development on the engine's many subsystems. Discord link: https://discord.gg/fRXXvMuxjs

So I decided to try making some custom skins, but when I went to the aircraft folder to copy some, I found none of the FC3 planes listed except for the A-10. And when I checked the individual livery folders, in most cases the DDS files are missing. With the F-16 some only have the DDS file for the tail. And the majority of those skin folders are compressed. Where's the FC3 planes, and why are some DDS files missing?

Can't select aircraft in ME after save, exit then return to edit mission. It's only showing bottom half of the aircraft properties box. And, it has ground vehicle formation options in the formations list. Have to delete object, which deletes all associated triggers if you have any for that object. Only does it with non-static aircraft.

Hi everyone, A somewhat minor issue - the Su-24MR isn't available for the USSR. I'm not entirely sure when it was introduced, but ww2.dk has it present for the 39th ORAP (potentially relevant for the Afghanistan map) from circa 1986. Several other results for the Su-24MR on the same website has it present through the mid to late 1980s. According to this and this though, the first unit to perform operational testing in 1987-1988. Regardless of which date is accurate, they're both within the period where the Soviet Union was around.

The Civilian Aircraft Mod, Military Aircraft Mod and Civilian Vehicle Mods add so much to DCS. However MOD support is problematic for most, especially on MP servers. Please add these types of units to DCS as a matter of urgency; so many mission types and COIN missions are impossible without male, female and children civilian animated NPC models for rescue, hostage etc. As are airliners for intercept or evacuation missions. Same with civilian cars and trucks, busses and taxis etc.

When an A-10C II (without ammunition) or F-18C send 1688 laser on target, can other friendly AV-8B Harrier find A-10C's/F-18C's laser on DMT? Can we use aircrafts like as JTAC officers in multiplayer games?

Hi Developers, Is there any way possible to have the AI planes rollout on the runway longer ??? It seems so unreal seeing landing aircraft coming to a full stop before the first runway exit. The roll out time needs some adjustment to different types of aircraft with different weight classes . I have added a track file using 3 different types of ai planes, and all 3 do the same thing. Also i added some video's of the same aircraft from DCS to show the different rollouts. Mirage : C-17 : E3 Sentry : Kind regards and thanks, RWC. Runway roll out test.trk

Jester can't handle being in a theater that has neutral air traffic. He designates them as bandits and flips into psycho mode, wanting me to take down AI airliners!

I noticed some time ago that the canopy ejection on aircraft is usually incorrect. It ejects upwards/forward rather than backwards out of the way. The result in DCS is in most cases that the canopy blown away would hit/ nearly miss the pilot getting out. It seems all aircraft in DCS have the exact same ejection pattern. I know it's nit-picking but an important detail in my opinion. On Youtube are good examples how the Canopy ejection should look like : Mig-29 0:45, F-18 0:31 DCS - Pilot got killed by own canopy.mp4 Canopy ejection wrong.trk Canopy ejection wrong 3.trk

Currently in order to use the escort task the unit must have the escort mission, however the escort mission restricts access to other A2A tasks (specifically search and engage tasks). I would propose the removal of the escort mission and making the escort task available to all A2A mission types (or even ALL mission types). This would allow task switching, doing things like escorting a friendly to a point then shifting to set up a CAP patrol in an area. Or being on CAP but then moving to escort a friendly, both of these examples I can think of a lot of situations where they would make sense and accomplishing it in DCS currently is a pain due to these task restrictions. I would ideally expand this wish to be more broad and say make more tasks available to more missions in general as there are many that are 'mission locked' but there is no logical reason a aircraft performing some other mission could not be given those tasks
