I'm hoping some of you will have played this.... yes it was a total nightmare after a while with all the hackers etc.... BUT

 

Does anyone remember that feeling of your FIRST trip into DayZ? Getting lost in the horror of it all was great fun right up until you figured out how the game worked with the zombie zone spawn etc....

 

I've been eagerly awaiting the DayZ Standalone to get back into this game as I really enjoyed playing with my friends etc on passworded servers with no hackers before I got sick of it last year!

 

We (104th) may 'potentially' set up a DayZ Server when its possible to do so. I don't own the Alpha yet (tbh I have enough 'alpha' from DCS!) so its a little way off but I'm hoping to get involved again once it is a bit more stable and closer to Beta release!

 

Anyone else as interested as I am about the prospect of running around Chernaurus without any hackers? Building bases... fighting bandits.. saving friends in trouble and just generally surviving!?

 

Anyone on Alpha just now?

Im not going to buy anythig again that is labeled pre-acces, alpha or bats...such games in such an early state are usually just a waste of time. How often were we forced to start over new in DayZ...i dotn know because I stopped it after the third time. I had fulyl geared long term survivor characters and onyl once I had to start new because I got killed.

 

Most of the time I had to start over new just because of some server database changes... or because someone dropped a nuclear bomb onto Krasnostav. Another issue weas thast after a few weeks it went from a teamplay adventure where you could easily find and join a friendly team and even team vs. team encounters did not allways end in a shooting, into a lonewolf shoot em up on sight

 

thats not fun anymore.

I've been playing DayZ since the mod days rather extensively, but the frustration about bugs ("Watch out, a ladder!", the "doors of certain death"...) killed the fun for me. After a pause I recently started playing again, most bugs have been ironed out fortunately. But again, it can get boring once you've found the better gear. Nothing to do after that, zombies aren't a threat, no cars or base building yet, PvP is basically the only thing.

 

I haven't seen any hackers in the SA yet, but a team of 4 including me was shot by glitch abusers who managed to glitch under the floor and shoot us from the void, frustrating stuff...

 

The server idea sounds great, I'd pay it a visit for sure!

Yeah I got really fed up with the MOD Arma2 version because of the Hackers...

 

I was a member of the REDDIT rescue team, we would go out and save people who needed help etc.. it was great fun.. but you always had some fckuer wanting to ruin it by using cheats etc....

 

But I had some really great times as a medic, had some great little camps and lots of resources to fall back on! But it did get very boring when the hackers took all your stuff... found you in the middle of nowhere and killed you etc.

 

I'd love to have our own 104th DayZ server for the ED community to get involved with... we could password it to keep the nasties out so you'll be playing with a similar crowd etc.... should make building up your character and bases a bit better!

 

I'm not a massive fan of the PvP.. I'd rather help people than kill them.... but since its all there is to do really in the Alpha, I'll get my super stealth sneak moves on the go and take down some bandits!

ALpha still has alot of things missing, Last time I played the M4 was the only thing you needed, but you had to sneak around the airbases to get them.

I've been reading lately on how bad (vintage) the ArmA 3 engine is regarding CPU utilization etc. and bumped onto details on DayZ devs' work on the adapted ArmA engine. From what I've read the DayZ modified engine will be FAR ahead the ArmA 3 engine soon while ArmA 3 guys plan on treating their engine as a milking cow. It's nice to see DayZ project skyrocketing like that.

There's a crashed heli near Balota Airport. Maybe you can go there and fix it? I think there are some spares to be found in the tents in front of Balota Airport and in Balota Control Tower as well.

No more M4 at airfields anymore anyways. The exclusivly spawn on helicopter crashsites now.

All old M4 spawns will no have AKMs in place.

The one game I said I'd nvr buy(being an old time ArmA fan) I bought it a few months back. I played all but maybe 30 mins of the mod so I'am a noob. I have a good knowledge of Chenarus with an without a map, played ArmA2 since day1. Might look u guys up if I find the time . I get discouraged by the shoot first ask questions later guys on most servers, so it'd be nice to have a grp to play with that are'nt gonna shoot ya in the kiester after u turn the other way :D Steam ID is call9113840.

The clan I played BF4 with tried to talk me into playing it plenty of times and they never succeeded...but still, maybe I'll give in someday and try it out. As it stands though I prefer all of my free time to go to flying jets :pilotfly: I don't plan on touching another "video game" again, but that can always change too haha

I've been looking at youtube videos of this game. I'm be interested in playing this game but I have a strong, probably irrational, aversion to Steam. I can't get it out of my head that the steam platform would be bad for my computer and way of playing games.

 

Am I just being stupid about this or should I just go ahead and install steam and start playing?

Unfortunate, Steam like distributions will replace in future other types of games distributions. I am not a fan either , but have to get used to it. If you really want this game you have to hold your breath and install steam. :)

Steam is fine and is absolutely harmless to your computer.
