Define "full load" (how much fuel did it have?)

Windows 10 - Intel i7 7700K 4.2 Ghz (no OC) - Asus Strix GTX 1080 8Gb - 16GB DDR4 (3000 MHz) - SSD 500GB + WD Black FZEX 1TB 6Gb/s

Intergalactic travel is possible in movies.

I highly doubt screenwriter checked performance levels of the heli working on that scene.

OT.

Me and wife watching one of the matrixes. Trinity jumps from building on motorcycle, kicks bunch of ass, explosions, and all.

Me being a motorcycle rider -"how the hell did she just take the helmet off without taking sunglasses off first!?".

Wife -"I see you are not very puzzled about the fact she just jumpt many stories on that bike..."

Keep in mind too, that because it's Hollywood, and NOT the real world battle situation, the AMMO is also Fake or Dummy Rounds. Therefore, while the guns might carry the same number of bullets, none of them have ANY Lead in them. Therefore, a Full Load is probably significantly lighter in a movie load versus a real load.

Same would be true for All Munitions .. No Explosive Warheads or internals that add weight.

Of course, this is just My Opinions .. and I really don't know anything !!

The enemy helicopters weren't Cobras. I'm not sure what type of helo they're supposed to stand in for. They look a bit like the Eurocopter Tiger but they're not it. I thought they might have tried to look like Chinese Harbin Z-19 but judging from pictures right here in "Photos/Videos" that's not the case either. The closest match I could find was an Agusta A129 which AFAIK hasn't yet been exported to Absurdistan.

In any case, the hostile choppers displayed in the movie are not AH-1, that much I'm sure about. :)

As for the number of actors, let's go by the IMDb list (I can tell most of them by memory but I don't know the newbies yet):

  • Sylvester Stallone - to be rescued
  • Jason Statham
  • Harrison Ford - Pilot
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Wesley Snipes
  • Dolph Lundgren
  • Randy Couture
  • Terry Crews - Wounded in action, not in helicopter
  • Glen Powell
  • Antonio Banderas
  • Victor Ortiz
  • Ronda Rousey
  • Kellan Lutz
  • Jet Li - in Cockpit

So we have 12 people on board the UH-1 and one to be rescued. These are mostly heavy guys with weapons and possibly some kind of body armor, so let's estimate each of them at 100 kg, though they probably weigh less on average (remember, Jet Li is one of them; I don't know his weight, but he looks rather light :D)

That's an estimated 1200 kg to be hovered aside from external weapons and fuel.

As far as I can tell, the external weapons are two pods of 7 FFARs each and a center mounted gun, probably a Minigun.

By the time of the rescue, the FFARs appear to have been expended.

The UH-1 in question is definitely a twin engine Huey.

For the UH-1N, Wikipedia gives a useful load of 2,038 kg (that's including people, weapons and fuel).

For the UH-1Y Venom, Wikipedia gives a useful load of 3,020 kg.

With fuel and external weapons, I'd say a UH-1N would have to be operated beyond its designed engine limits in order to perform the hover OGE that was displayed in the movie.

But after reading books such as "Low Level Hell" or "Chickenhawk" I know that -when circumstances required it- pilots often fried the engine and got back home, wondering how the hell that overheating mess had gotten them to safety when it should have torched the whole chopper mid-air.

The UH-1Y on the other hand does seem to have enough power to carry all the weapons and fuel and our super heroes without breaking out in a sweat.

If Drummer (Ford) was able to get his hands on the relatively new Venom, and I'd say it's a safe bet his position would warrant such an acquirement, the scene, however Hollywoodesque it looks, would be quite doable for the chopper.

If you were to undertake such a rescue in our beloved DCS UH-1H with a capacity of just 1,760 kg (for the UH-1D according to Wikipedia), you'd probably have to max out its single engine just for the super heroes and the fuel, let alone any external weapons.

I would therefore suggest leaving Barney to his misery or at the very least have all the other guys dump their weapons before attempting any such rescue. :megalol:
