Tell them to install beta intaller into their steam directory. Once the shortcuts are created the updater will recognize the files in the steam directory.

Thank for your reply, can you guide me with that please. Where can they find the Beta installer and where to place it in the steam folder? The main folder?

;3029366']Our server has been updated to 1.5.6.1340.230 Open Beta.

For the guys that don't have space on their HDD you can force the release version to open beta by editing the autoupdate.cfg file with in your Dcs main folder by using Notepad++. All you have to do is add a line that reads: "branch": "openbeta", and save it, relaunch DCS and it will begin the update as normal. To convert back to the release just replace "branch": "openbeta", with "branch": "release",

Notepad++ Download Link: https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.3.1.html

I managed to convert my game to open beta and it worked just fine. Now converting back didn't work :( I even deleted the whole "branch": "openbeta", and it still didn't convert back. Please tell me I didn't screw up my game.

;3033808']It works fine on my end I just tested it!

Make sure you are using Notepad++ to edit the lines and open it as Administrator.

All you need to do is change "openbeta" to "release" and save it then run Update DCS from the start menu

Just spoke to Knight on TS and all is good now. My game didn't run the update automatically. I had to do it manually as you've just mentioned above. Bless you both. It works just fine

Download the installer from here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/

Default DCS path for Steam should be: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\DCSWorld" but could be different if they installed it somwhere else.

They should also make a backup from the user folder to be safe (the config files are in there): "C:\Users\<USERNAME>\Saved Games\DCS"

The installer should then recognize the existing DCS (steam) install and use those files. If everything works correct you will have the DCS-Standalone shortcuts in the startmenu (repair, update) and also it should use your existing config files from the DCS-user folder. (Steam&Standalone use the same folders)

Please note that this way you make your Steam installation to a Beta version and if you want to revert back again I recommend SkateZillas DCS-GUI tool. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=160053

If you have a Standalone version it is very easy to switch between Release & Beta branch. (It is just one line of code in a config file^^)

I am having the same issue now. I cannot connect to the server. The game just waits on the loading screen for a few minutes and then crashes :helpsmilie:

Short answer is no.

But you can make it easier by being on Teamspeak, or by knowning your aircraft types as not all of our missions have all aircraft on both sides.

On Operations Bison and BackFire its East vs West, so all F-15Cs and Viggens are friendly and all SU27, SU33 and Mig29 are enemy.

On our other missions is a bit more difficult however like I said, being on teamspeak and co-ordinating with other pilots in the area can take some of the guess work out of it!

Yes, but the issue is, the crates don't spawn at all, or at least we have no idea where they do. In the other missions, FOB/SAM crate pickup points are usually marked with blue smoke, in Op. Watcher the smoke simply isn't anywhere, even after clearing both FARPs from both waypoints.

you have to bring 3 FOB crates to build a FOB at the farp first. pls read the briefing again.

Is there any plan to upgrade the mission like one type of skin for each coalition to support IFF for the Viggen pilots?

I mean, hopping on ts for 10 mins might not be worth it...

And i don't know how effectiv your ts is with channels, but for example, if i'm in (if there is any of course) ground pounder channel, and see the fighters infront of me, would i have to change channel or how does that work with your ts, because i know a lot of players don't read chat so that would be a dead end as i experienced yesterday

I concur with the instability, frame freeze, shutter and game crash with the new update

Yes, next week I / we will standardise the skins for the Viggen to make IFF more easy.

I can't do it this weekend as I'm just about to leave out the door to fly to Austria to visit the Leatherneck Simulations Lead Developer, I'll be back on Monday! :D :pilotfly:

I've had hoped for an update on this friday for the release version of DCS so things can finally go back to normal. The 104th server runs on open beta in support for the Viggen and of course LNS which we all appreciate. I understand that. The thing is, the game crashes and lags sometimes and if we're to wait until next friday (IF the update should come out by then) then it's just a bit of inconvenience.

Any chance you guys might wanna run the server on the release version? (Sorry Viggens)

Our server has been updated to Open Beta 1.5.6.1648.240 the previous version was 1.5.6.1340.230 and they are not compatible with one another so you will need to update.

Dear All,

Now that the Viggen has been released into Open Beta in 1.5.6; we're going to be hard at work at polishing the aircraft up, and solving all of the issues still present in the module.

This first post will be edited to reflect the current changelog and corrections.

27/1
- RELEASED 3/02/2017!

  • Increased wet thrust IR signature

  • Corrected nosewheel steering sensitivity

I support this. In 1.5.5 there's just WW2 and Blue Flag which is very unpopulated during the day.

We are standardising our missions with regards to the Viggen skins to make IFF easier for non radar carrying aircraft.

From now on all our missions will have the Green Skin Viggen on the Blue side and the Silver Metal Skin on the Red side!

On the subject of what version we are hosting.

We are going to stick with hosting the Open Beta for a little longer. The temptation has been there for us to role back to the Release version if I'm honest with you guys. However we want to continue to support the people who bought the Viggen by giving them a platform to fly it on our server.

We are keeping a close eye on the server stability and are not oblivious to the problems it has incurred while hosting the Open Beta.

As I mentioned earlier I flew out at the weekend to visit Leatherneck and while I was there myself and IronMike got the chance to discuss server stability and performance issues with the Viggen, so we hope to implement some small changes over the next few days that will help with stability.

If we do not see a stable release version in the next few weeks that includes the Viggen then we will seriously consider rolling back however we want to stick with the Open Beta for a little while longer until a Release version comes out.

Your patience is greatly appreciated! We hope to be back hosting on a release version soon!

In the meantime use this as a good opportunity to check out some of the other servers in DCS!

Apart from the WW2 and Blue Flag servers there is also the Open Conflict server which really has something for everyone and is great fun!

Make sure you guys give them some of your love too if you choose not to update to the Open Beta!

Don't worry about that. These servers are full most of the time and others host a decent number of players :)

Used to fly on the open beta (using the Notepad++) until I started having issues with my joystick. Not the joystick itself but only when in MP in the open beta the rudder inputs seem to never correspond although I see the rudders moving from left to right and vice versa when looking back towards the tailwing. What in God's name is that kind of a problem?! :joystick:

Request: Could you add the hawk to east vs west missions? I need more kills and a challenge mig vs F5 server is lacking targets right now, Reason for east vs west i can IFF aircraft with out shooting down a friendly thanks. Hawk black skins or maybe grey, Grey looks to easy to spot against green so the black skins may work best :)
