Loss of activation with openbeta update 1.2.15

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Careful with the update, the instructions to deactivate the module have not the desired effect.

Appearently Mig-21 module owners are losing activations with this new update. Not at fault but a mistake from the developer and the starforce system. So I suggest resetting all available starforce mig-21 keys from LN back to 10 OR +1 to each license. Any help is welcome !

Starforce message:

"Application deactivation is impossible. Your license does not allow the deactivation or the number of deactivations allowed by the license is exceeded. Contact the product publisher"

That's the same message I got. AND the Mig 21 in the game doesn't work. Get a weird cockpit like I am sitting in the nose, can't move and the game locks up.

Since I am upgrading my system i steps through the last 3 weeks I have lost SEVEN activations as I just cannot deactivate it. This is sad for.

I am down to 2 or 3 I think, and not only with the MiG-21bis, other modules too that didn't allow me to deactivate.

I think Wags needs to be made aware of this situation.

Exact same issue here too Bit.

I de-activated all modules including the MiG-21 (didn't realise at this time the de-activation didn't work anyway) before swapping my GPU from an AMD Radeon to a GTX 980 and installing a single SSD and putting windows 7 and DCS on the SSD.

I re-activated everything but the only module I had an issue with was the MiG-21(my favourite!). At one point every time I entered multiplayer it went through a reactivation thing and I lost an "life". I'm down to 2 or 3 now :noexpression:

I was going to download the beta, but I'm not now till this issue is fixed otherwise I may loose what lives I have left now! I did sent an email to LN about my issue but no reply as yet. Didn't loose a single activation on all the other modules I have.

That's strange if you couldn't deactivate other modules while building your pc.

Anyway,

Updates shouldn't break activations, even with the intentions to fix a problem with the key.

Best thing to do is not to activate the mig-21 again if you have touched the update 1.2.15.

But rather wait until we have a response on what to do or what is being done.

It is worth mentioning that you can not really run out of activations. If you run out of activations you will gain one activation back after a month.

I do see the need for copy protection, but do it right !

This is not acceptable for PAYING customers, Dr. Starforce !!!

The Mig21 is not the only module that does not have a deactivate feature, there are more modules like that !!!

Which means I have to wait 1 month if things go south ?????

I sometimes HAVE TO change parts in my PC as I work with this damn rig to make money, and sometimes I have to test other hardware etc... and Starforce plays tricks on me.

Would they also wait 1 month for my money when I purchase a new module.

As a paying customer I can demand a working DEACTIVATION function, PERIOD !

Yes. Or you write them a polite mail where you explain your situation and I am sure they will get you going again.

The way banking and payments between diffrent companies works they probably allready do.

Well, no.

However, it has allready been fixed in the today's open beta release.

Like I said we are on a different road when updates takes an activation away for everyone. That's not the function of copy protection and terms we agree on.

But that's why I put my faith in the customer support :)

Did that take away one? Hmm I wasn't aware off that. The changelog just mentioned that it has been fixed (not made worse). But I guess LNS will sort out the problems created.

I recommend something else , because that thread is showing you steps to lose an activation:

Go to the module manager and reinstall the Mig21 module (click on the bin, restart DCS and install it again)

If your registry still holds an activation you won't lose one this way. (For now)

(1. The update broke the module and 2. The new starforce program isn't deactivating your old activation)

The MiG-21 module is an outlier that, for some reason, does not update well. When I upgraded my hardware, all other DCS modules worked 100% afterwards, only MiG-21 did not. Had to contact Leatherneck Sims to get a brand new key.... I am not sure why they did it like that.

We are monitoring/fixing the situation and working with SF to make sure the Deactivation option works properly.

We had to bite the bullet and upgrade the protection system to make sure smooth, future operation.

It is very likely that we will batch reset all activated keys to 10 once this update has been adopted by the majority of the userbase.

As always, you can write me personally (or anyone else on the team) to acquire a new key.

We're never leaving you without one, regardless of how many hardware changes you do.

Just in case try to run DCS repair from the command prompt:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

DCS_Updater.exe repair

Then reinstall the MiG module using this command:

DCS_Updater.exe install MIG-21BIS

For my this did the trick. The MiG tab is back in Instant Action menu and got the cockpit view back .
