Air Refueling

So guys, I am not really sure that those tomcat would have a refuelling probe. I read somewhere that they were removed after the first Gulf war, but I don't know on which variants

So Will we get it anyway ?

Yes, hits from the refuelling basket could break the probe cover and damage the engine.

OR (and I hope someone from ED reads this), given that ED already has a great model of the C-130, they could go the extra mile and make it a KC-130... Lots of air forces use the Hercules as a refueler.

Ha.. F-14 and the pleasant (maybe, I hope) probe and drogue system! I know its the lower flow rates air refueling system, but it look easier to use! Maybe just impression:huh:

I practice air refueling with F-15 and I cant says its funny at all. I dont have module with probe and drogue and cannot compare it.

And about the tanker, I cant say what it'll be (the VEAO airbus coult be good enough) but I feel like leatherneck will not let us thirsty in the air!

Am I correct in thinking one of LNs posts said they would be working on bringing A.I models into DCS world?

If that is the case they may be bringing in some US Navy carrier aircraft with the tomcat & theatre. It's possible.

Didn't remember well.. but I think they're referring to ww2 models.

Probe doors were removed from the Tomcats as the metal drogue baskets (affectionately known as "iron maidens") used by KC-135s and KC-10s had the tendency to rip the doors off, potentially causing FOD damage to the Tomcat's engines. Thus, the decision to remove these doors from Tomcats operating with ground based tankers such as during ODS, OEF and OIF. The Tomcats delivered to Iran also did not have these doors.

KC-135 only, KC-10 had a soft basket that was preferred to tank off of.

Ah. I didn't know that. Thanks.

So were they left with a gaping hole in the fuselage? I assume you men the front door that isn't attached to the probe, no?

Only the cover that was attached to the probe was removed as seen in the photos that Demongornot posted.
