Has anybody else had this issue? After the last update, I can not get the Huey to kick over and start. I run through the start up process and when I get to the starter switch, it will not start. My key bind does not work any more, the home key does not start it (it does not even move the switch), and when I manually toggle the switch with the mouse nothing happens. I have even tried twisting the throttle to see if it was a bug and nothing (even though I know that has nothing to do with getting it to kick over). I would greatly appreciate some help, I miss flying the Huey. All other keys work fine. I hear the electrical power when the Batt comes on so I know I have power. Its beyond me why this started happening. I have already tried remapping keys, and even hitting the repair file on DCS.

I tried this in a mission I created and when that failed, I tried the training mission that comes with the Huey. Same thing. Followed the instructions and still no dice. Please help!!!

I did the free flight mission where the Huey is already running. Flew just fine. I prefer to start everything on my own so I have not tried auto start. Still unclear why there is a problem starting it up.

Ensure that you have increased the throttle to fully open then back to Idle stop, then press and hold the starter Button.

No problems here just tried it, I do as Strut does, open the throttle fully and then close it again, wait 10 sec (not sure why I do that) and then start.

My Huey also works like a Charm.

From Battery or Ground Power. It starts every single time.

Tried everything you guys said. Still no go. Circuit breakers are good, throttle was adjusted and readjusted, no start. Weird thing is I have tried holding the home key and it does not even work. I have tried remapping the key and still does not work. I will post a track later. Can some one please advise on how to do that though? I have never recorded and posted a track before. I would like to get this issue resolved. Thanks again guys

You don't need to do anything to record one, there's a button marked "Save Track" on the mission debrief screen.

Simply click, save it, go to where you saved it (probably C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\DCS\Tracks), and then add it as an attachment to your forum posts, done by making a new post and looking under the big text box for the manage attachment button.

Just try to keep your mission as short as possible, and don't slow down or speed up time either.

When you exit the flight the summary page, has an option to save the track.

What have you bound the engine start button too, your joystick or keyboard? Maybe try starting up with ground power and see what happens, if that works then you doing something in your start sequence thats draining the battery I would guess.

EDIT:Just so you know when I first got the huey I struggle to get it started up, why I have no idea.

Well Gents,

I greatly appreciate all the input, and I must say with great embarrassment, after not flying the Huey for months, I believe I was forgetting to switch over to ESS BUS. Here is my track of a successful take off.

To my defense, I think I was forgetting to do that but not sure. I did try the training mission and followed its instructions before with no luck, so I am not 100% sure it was me, but probably was pilot error. I ran the DCS repair tool before trying it this time. Here is the track. Please let me know what you think of the takeoff and any critical advice is welcome. Thanks again guys.

I don't have time to read the other replies but I noticed that if you don't push the thump button next to the throttle on the collective handle and then rotate the throttle up and back to idle, the engine will not light off.

ESS bus should have nothing to do with it. It just selects what the voltmeter reads off of.

If I am in a hurry on MP servers, (huey guys waiting on me) I only flip a couple of switches and the Huey starts right up. That would be

Battery on

Main gen on

Starter Generator "start"

Fuel pumps on

page up<--->page down(throttle up, then back down)

Then hold the home key.

Nothing else really matters to get the engine turning and I can get rotors spinning in about 15 seconds from cockpit spawn. Throttle up and throttle down is very important for starting, or it wont kick over

Hi

The ESS BUS is not the reason, it is just a selector to switch the reading on the DC voltmeter.

Maybe the repair fixed it, since it looks more of a key binding issue than you doing something wrong.

Are you sure all the switches at the top are in the correct position(AC Phase, ESS Bus, Inverter off, STARTER GEN, BATT ON, etc)? Basicly use the quick start guide start up procedure found in the docs folder of the UH-1H.

Not sure how to post the track here, I know you can do a quick mission generator thing, do the start up as you are used to. quite, save the track on that screen and then copy it from a folder. I think the folder is located somewhere in My Documents/DCS, last time I checked.

EDIT: Saw you fixed it, ignore my post...(The answers pop'd up after I responded).

After clicking to end mission your next screen will give options to fly again, watch track or save track. Save the track as a .trk file and attach it to a post. You should find the saved track in users/saved games/replay iirc:)

(see Message #14)

I just ran the training cold start session this morning. This training session does not follow the updated flight manual change since the initial beta. Where the Start Button used to be is now an idle stop detent button, titled, "Throttle Stop" (RWin + T). I have the throttle "Corrector" mapped to my CH Fighterstick's throttle wheel in Options: Axis Commands. But the Fighterstick's throttle wheel will not move the corrector to full right turn of the Corrector. I have to use the detent button pushed in and the "Page Down" key to get to the Corrector's pre-start setup. I was playing around on a MP 159th's server mission, where I landed in-country, and manually shut-down. On re-start-up, this is the only way I could initialize a manual cold start start-up in game other than the "Left Win + Home" keys start-up cheat.

Maybe this procedure will help.

I am currently reacquainting myself with the UH-1H the last few days having not flown her since its early beta. The last 2 months I have been learning how to use Combined Arms more effectively in MP. The 159th server allows Huey and Mi-8 to drop off various support battle equipment in transport drops is why I am re-learning the Huey, and still need to learn the Mi-8. I purchased the Mi-8 for $14 on a really good sale awhile ago and have never learned it, yet.

If temperatures are very low you may need external power. Ni Cad batteries die at low temps and this is modeled in game. Have had exactly this problem where I couldn't get a start at low temp till I hooked up ground power.

Starting on battery in DCS can really get tricky after a few attempts or with a not "new" Huey.

On chickenhawk, Mason writes a lot about them staying over night in a field waiting to go back to the LZ to pickup the troops.

So how they didn't encounter any problems? Did they have bigger capacity batteries? An extra external battery? DCS is to harsh? or am I just missing something?

I sure wouldn't want to stay the night, in a field in the middle of Vietnam, with the DCS Huey "Battery starting capability".

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting any criticism on the DCS Huey, just very curious on real life operation with only on-board battery.

much obliged

It seems either home button not working or a change in start up. I suspect home button I had a friend who had same problem. Resolved when he mapped home key to Hotas:)
