DblAAssassin Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I'm looking to get some sort of head tracking device. I'm stuck on whether I should invest in Track IR or pay a fraction of the cost for ED Tracker. If I you think I should get ED Tracker should I get the pre-made model or make it myself? Just leave reason why I should get either one below. Also, as I understand it, the only difference between the two is not being able to zoom with the ED Tracker. Is this right? p.s. I am not interested in FaceTrackNoIR or any other web cam based tracker. Hardware: Saitek X56, TrackIR, HP Reverb G2
Sokol1_br Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 EDTrack is on TrackIR3 category - a 3DOF device, not properly comparable to TrackIR5 (6DOF). Basically you are missing zoom, lean and rotation movements.
cichlidfan Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) TIR provides full 6DOF and works out of the box with most any flight or racing sim, along with a number of other games/sims. FlyingHighAU Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I would go straight to the TrackIR5 with ProClip, don't waste your time with homebrew stuff if you can afford it. Unless of course you plan on getting a VR headset in a few months time.
Sporg Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I agree with taking the TIR5. It is more expensive, but works out of the box. And it has 6DOF versus 3DOF on ED tracker. The 3 extra DOF gives a more natural head movement in game, and thus much better immersion. Instead of the Pro Clip, I would recommend an alternative like DelanClip: http://www.delanengineering.com/ It is made in metal, and both much more solid and much more accurate than the Pro Clip. boedha68 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Yep TrackIR 5. But don't buy the pro clip. This is realy fragile. See user reviews on youtube and on internet. Just use the cap. wormeaten Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases This is freeware and if you have web cam you can try it for free. Use face tracking. This days face tracking work good and you can even dedicated wanted core to it so will not effect on your game performance. If you want something else similar to trackIR and to work out of the box than use than is better go there and buy clipsy bundle. http://mansloth.com/?page=clipsibundle It is 1/3 cost of trackIR and work the same. TrackIR is overrated and overpriced.

cichlidfan Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 The Proclip, itself, is a completely separate discussion. Building your own or buying something else, like a Delanclip, is definitely a viable option. joey45 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Don't bother with NP track clip thingy... get this instead >>http://www.trackhat.org/#!trackhat-shop/cfk4<< much more well made. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. DblAAssassin Posted September 14, 2015 Author Posted September 14, 2015 Thanks for all the posts! Appreciate it! I can now see I should invest in the Track IR. 1 Hardware: Saitek X56, TrackIR, HP Reverb G2
Revvin Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I preferred the EDTracker over my TrackIR 3 with vector clip. The latest 'pro' version of the EDTracker is supposed to be even better at eliminating drift in the device which wasn't that much of an issue with my DIY early version. They are apparently working on a wireless version too. The problem I had with the TrackIR was it seemed to get easily confused if not positioned at optimal distance and angle but because it doesn't rely on a camera the EDTracker kept position of my view much better.
Sokol1_br Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 In CloD the guy achieve some degree of "6DOF" setting the translation movement: Result at 9:25
BlackSharkAce Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 (edited) In CloD the guy achieve some degree of "6DOF" setting the translation movement: Result at 9:25 This is brilliant ! I'm gonna add this to my settings right away ! Another aspect of EDTracker is it's refresh rate.. it's way snappier than trackir for me =) Edited September 21, 2015 by BlackSharkAce

vicx Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 I am not interested in FaceTrackNoIR or any other web cam based tracker. TrackIR IS A webcam based tracker. There is no IMU in the headset or any other kind of magic. TrackIR is just optical tracking of dots using a camera that is basically a web cam. TrackIR is a good package but it is a little over-priced.
Callsign.Vega Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Calling TrackIR a "webcam" is pretty silly. It has no normal visible light spectrum camera and lens apparatus that a "webcam" has. shaz56 Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 brilliant if you get the track clip pro, ( fits to the side of your headset) you will never look back; Actually you can. Sorry bout the pun, lol
Lenux Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Yes, but isnt the track clip pro a very cheap plastic product ??? Im confused now with track clip pro / Proclip .... Do you mean this one ?? http://www.shop.aerosoft.com/eshop.php?action=article_detail&s_supplier_aid=13128 Yes, the Pro Clip is not worth the money, sadly. It's a fragile plastic thingy, and on mine the foam inside deformed, so that it could no longer fit firmly in my headset. A thinner headset I could totally forget to fit it on. I recommend the DelanClip, it is not too expensive and it is made in metal, so it is sturdy. (for instance if you drop your headset, not that anyone would ever do that.. ;) ) Another thing I noticed is that the tracking gets much more solid with the DelanClip. It is both more accurate and less susceptible to disturbance from sunlight than when using my Pro Clip. I think it is due to the fact that the Pro Clip features small encapsuled red LEDs, while the DelanClip features stronger IR LEDs, with a wider view angle. You can buy it here: http://www.delanengineering.com/ System specs: Gigabyte Aorus Master, i7 9700K@std, GTX 1080TI OC, 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM, NVMe M.2 SSD, Oculus Quest VR (2x1600x1440) Warthog HOTAS w/150mm extension, Slaw pedals, Gametrix Jetseat, TrackIR for monitor use
