I'm sorry to be so blunt but I no longer accept this. I heard this all before. The difference is that now actual product that customers paid for is dependent on this. No matter which way you look at it missing deadlines is unprofessional. So unless you want to start discussing the status of project management at ED I suggest we wait and see. I don't really want to go further into my thought on this matter as I don't want to be banned from here.

Its a double edge sword, release something that isn't ready for prime time, or possibly miss a somewhat vague due date. With certain people its a lose/lose situation.

And we dont ban people for their opinions, even when negative, its when those opinions are delivered in an immature, less than respectful manner that we start looking at them, so lets not get carried away here.

I think from people's perspective the frustration is due to the fact that the vague dates have continuously been pushed back for over a year (concerning 2.0 anyways).

Nobody is denying that frustration, I am frustrated too, I know for a fact that ED is just as frustrated if not more, but its a huge undertaking rebuilding the foundation of the house you are still living in. But we are right there, its very close, and we only need to hang on a little longer, whether its a couple days or a week or two... its almost here.

I would say if this is some "vauge due date" then it should reflect this in the product page. Why is it stating that it will be released in September if nobody is confident it will be?

What I meant by vague is that there was no specific date, the example I used for the 190 had a specific date if I remember correctly. This one just says September... its vague because in some peoples mind its been late since the 1st of September, they were confident at the time of the press release it wouldnt take longer than September, but things have happened, more likely with 1.5 and not the L-39. We still have a few days left in September of course, but as we get down to the end of the month, the risk is there it wont be a September release.

We are in agreement here. However I feel that most users are aware of what a "beta" moniker means and what it entails. I also feel that missing another release estimate that is tied to a paid module release (The L39) would hurt ED's reputation far more than releasing an unstable open beta, on an open beta test client.

Please don't misunderstand me, I am working with incomplete data and can't determine the severity and nature of the remaining bugs unlike the closed beta testers. However I feel a lot of the time that the community unfairly gets the blame for "demanding" release dates, estimates, etc. when it is ED who set these estimates on their product information pages for preorders (for e.g. L39). I am a 'glass half-full' kind of guy, and don't mind ED missing their estimates much but I also feel that they are also way too much in the 'glass half-full' zone with their optimistic estimates and that this ends up hurting them and erodes the trust that their customers place in them.

Exactly that. Sure, if those bugs are really critical, then I understand that there is no point in any release at this time. But if they are not... People are hearing how DCSW 2.0 is "coming soon" for last three years or so, and guess what - they are still here. They are ranting, they are frustrated, but still, they remain loyal ED customers. So, if three years of "It's coming this year, guys! (...) Okay, maybe not that year, but this one for sure! (...) But this year, seriously!" has not put customers off, I doubt that less than perfect *beta* update will. Personally, I believe we are well in the "better something now then nothing again" territory.

Calling ED highly unprofessional if they miss September by a little bit is highly unfair, I am not sure if comments like this are serious or if they are meant to try and guilt ED into releasing something on time, but unplayable or unstable. I mean I shouldn't be surprised I guess, the FW-190 was what, 24 hours late due to an installer issue and some people gathered up their torches and pitch forks...

I get what you mean, but I don't see anything even slightly unfair about it. One thing is giving estimates, other thing is announcing something people are paying for, and then not delivering on time. 24 hours, one week or a half year, it doesn't really matter.

Sure, people over here are getting what "preorder" means, and are well aware what huge endeavour 1.5 / 2.0 is. But still, let's see what L-39 e-shop page says: "The beta version of DCS: L-39 will be available in September 2015." See, will be available. Not might be, not is planned to, will be. That seals it. ED is selling a product for money, and advertises it as available in september. Missing this date, be it for one day, is, indeed, what I do call "highly unprofessional".

Sorry, if you choose such a strict wording, then be prepared to deliver on a strict schedule.

Guys, please. It all boils down to two things:

1. People are frustrated because they have been shown the great things DCS 1.5 is going to introduce. Do you think people get frustrated because an ArmA 3 update gets delayed? Noooo, because they get a lawn mower DLC at best and AI soldiers still won't mind a bullet to the knee.

2. ED does not realise the level of quality of the DCS 1 graphics engine and they honestly think CTDs are going to be worse. :D

Edit:

And please stop. If ED stops giving release date estimates I'm going to find you.

I think this still looks good for a September release. I think ED would have changed this information in the product page by now, if they knew the L-39 would not be be released in September. Hold onto you controllers were going to be in for a fun weekend I'm sure.

There are still five more days left. They might yet make it. In any case what I was talking about before, trust, well once you lose that you start losing customers and much needed income. I for one won't leave, but I might think twice before pre-ordering something again.

At the end of the day, most people run the 1.2.x "official" version in parallel to the 1.2.x Beta. If ED releases 1.5 now and it's extremely "broken" I don't think people will leave DCS because of that. People can still run 1.2.x

With that said, I hope ED will still deliver in September

You are entitled to your opinion of course, but I prefer to focus my frustrations on things that are more important in life than something for my hobby that may or may not be a little late... I guess I am biased because I have a better view at how hard the team is working, but I have said all this before, I will try not to go over it again.

I don't see it been so broken during gameplay that it renders it unplayable. I say this because out of all the video streams I've seen so far, I am yet to see anyone crash to desktop. I watched a Russian stream the other day and this was a very long video that has DCS 1.5 running. I never once saw them crash during gameplay, so I'm just saying it can't be that bad,

But most of these videos have been the L-39 correct? There are so many places to have issues that you can or havent seen. During testing you can have one module causing a CTD, or one action that does, people creating these vids would know to avoid that.

I don't think anyone is under the illusion that they are going to get a trouble free game in 1.5. I think everyone excepts they are going to get crashes in a beta at some point. Yes this was in the L-39, but I've watched Matts streams and he's using other modules without crashing.

I guess it's upto ED what they do though and in what state they want to release this. I do worry if there are still so many bugs creating crashes though and that they won't release this in this state. That could mean waiting a long time until they are all fixed.

In most cases Matt is using a testing build, not a Release Candidate build for his videos.

Its all good, I have a lot of faith in our community I know that 99% of you are level headed people, and while you might be disappointed or frustrated if there are anymore delays, you will take it in a mature adult manner... the 1% have other forums to trash ;)

Besides, I dont drink coffee, I'll have a Diet Pepsi, and keep the beer on standby if needed :drink:

Well.. complaining is the only we can do if there is another delay, but is something natural.. Anyways, as I said before, DCS is the only current military simulator ( and a lot best simulator than prepar3d which is a mainly a civil simulator ) so even we get angry and some people say that ED guys don't act in a professional way, when the new version is released all of us return and buy all the modules they sell..

I was angry with the past year delay, but still buying modules and waiting.. is the only we can do.

The thing that I don't get is that everyone's acting like it has already been delayed. Does someone know something I don't? I haven't seen ED announce that it is going to be delayed and I still see the L-9 available in September.

No different than someone assuming that because an edited video did not show a crash, that everything is working well.

Both assumptions are based on facts not in evidence.

I assumed things were working well when I put all the information together. Listening to wags videos in August about it still be on schedule ect. There's no need to try to be funny here. I'm just saying ED haven't announced anything.
