Back on topic... the reason I would like a trainer is the same as I like them for the modern stuff, it would be nice to have a campaign or scenarios that match a similar journey of a real combat pilot... so many games out there have you jump into a fighter and expect you to be a fighter ace right from the get go.

I want to experience the training, and working your way up, I think a campaign like that could help even us simmers be better pilots, but thats just my opinion though... too many times I see people with Instant Ace Syndrome... its tougher to pull off in DCS with the complexity of the aircraft, even the WWII birds.

I agree, this is the point.

However it would be interesting that the module came accompanied with a training campaign with the possibility of evolution (basic operations, landing with crosswind, aerobatic maneuvers, formation flight, formation landings ...)

Of course, the training campaign would be the best part :)

I have been asked to do a T6 by a few aircraft operators, I have always shunned it as we got alot of flak for doing the Hawk as a trainer and I wasnt sure how much appeal there would be for one.

I have access to 5-6 Harvards plus at least 20 pilots.

Would you guys want such a module in the future?

Same for the Tiger Moth, the amount of aircraft and pilots I have access to is insance, as well as a little time in one myself

If done well I would buy them both, but the Tiger Moth would carry the greatest appeal by far. Speaking for myself only, of course.

I assume trainers may have limited appeal to some (although could be a great way to appeal to civ flight simmers?), so maybe the best way to sell them would be in bundle with a small map centered around an airbase with some scenic landscape to VFR around in and a "career starter" pilot training campaign? Maybe even with a proper fighter to graduate to? I would certainly love something like that :)

All aircraft would be amazing to have as spoken in the previous post, Id also love to see the A-1 Skyraidar and the Grumman F7F Tigercat.

That's not far off what I envisage our Duxford map being, that said it is still a long way away.

I would happily buy either of those (T6 would probably be more appealing as it is a more diverse aircraft) however not before you have completed a number of aircraft on your roadmap cough*tutor*cough.

Harvard for me. But also a Chipmunk. Cold War baby yaaaa.

Me too please. With a DH Vamp on the way I'd like to see a Chipmunk, Harvard, and a T-33 too! Early cold war goodness, and so many RCAF paint schemes I could do... <drool>

Definitely! And a NATO Air Training Plan map, hmmmm, maybe RCAF Chatham?

This will likely be an unpopular opinion here, but I already own 3 trainers that I'll likely never fly. We need more combat aircraft, not trainers.

I'll still buy it if it's made, of course, but I'll bitterly lament the deployment of scarce development resources that went into creating it that could have gone into planes that we'd actually fly on historical missions. Fill the virtual skies with more of the popular late-war aircraft that fought against each other before making another trainer.

We *need* an A8, and bombers (ANY bombers at this point, I'm not picky). We need a G10, and a Tempest. We need Zeros and Wildcats, Hellcats and Franks. Hmm... I need to write some alternate lyrics for "These are a few of my favorite things"...

Because I'm always prone to saying the most stupid things that come to mind :lookaround:, something like the T-6 would have been ideal to be included in the DCS-World basic download, if it's easier to learn than the TF-51D, which it almost has to be.

Now, asking somebody new to DCS-World to buy a training aircraft, while at the same time giving away an airplane he might only learn to fly with great difficulty, seems kind of bass-ackwards  and newbies might feel kind of... the best expression I can think of is German verarscht.

The value of a trainer would lie in the ability for two humans to occupy the plane at the same time so that an FNG can be shown how some maneuvers are done by an "instructor" and hopefully - come 2.0 - allow the student to take the controls and try it for themselves.

To some extent, allowing a human to ride along in the back seat of the TF-51 would be a big help in familiarizing a person with what it should look, sound and feel like. I know that it would have helped me a great deal. I am a fairly experienced FW pilot with over 400 hrs in my own tail dragger and I had a very hard time getting a handle on the DCS way of doing things.

I feel the value of a training aircraft would be to give the new-comer to DCS a more forgiving aircraft with which he/she can learn the basics and get a feel for flying a simulation. Having a 2-seater in which an experienced pilot can fly along with the trainee and actually teach him, would of course be a major plus. But to expect the trainee to have to find a teacher before being able to make a reasonable attempt at learning is just another hurdle between ED and success.

To underline my point, you just have to look at MP servers where pick-up players practically never use TeamSpeak to communicate with other players, which demonstrates the level of inhibition people have to even speak anonymously during play. You may want to check this thread for a more in-depth understanding of this: Multi-player and TeamSpeak.

Expecting learners to go out and search for somebody to actually take the time an effort to teach them how to fly is an even larger obstacle.

If you want to make DCS more accessible to new-comers, the best way, in my opinion, is to remove as many hindrances as possible from the steep learning curve.

I'm sure that such trainers will attract several guys that will like to teach others in flying maneuvers. Also will be cool for online squadrons, specially when WW2 warbirds start to flow.

The one I fly is a 1942 N2S-3 Navy version, not quite as tidy as the one in your video, the Stearman is pure flying pleasure though.

sorry about the music and 10 minute length, this is a vid of me (in the back) taking someone on a pleasure flight around the cliffs of Dover.
