DCS World 1.5 and 2.0 Discussion

Hi all,

pls dont beat me if I have missed the official 1.5/2.0 merge announcement somewhere...

help me on what to do:

-When is 1.5 and 2.0 is going to be merged ?

Can someone tell me whether it makes sense to download 2.0 now separately (and then purchase Nevada) or if I should wait till the versions gets merged into one version (and then purchase Nevada) so all assignments are being kept like I have now in 1.5 ?

I have no idea when the merge is going to take place, Im happy with my current 1.5. release version settings / game performace and I would be happy to get the merge via an auto- update ( is an auto update planned for the merge?) and not having to assign control axes / keys from scratch..

pls help me out here... I want Nevada , but I could wait a few more weeks if the merge is realistic for first half of 2016

Cheers Jabo09

I would say if you have the space go ahead and download 2.0.2 and start enjoying now. I believe once you have this in place any files that you have locally will get copied into the merge thus reducing download time when it does happen. This is what is happening currently with the dual installation of 1.5 and 2.0. When there is an update, say for example, you currently have 1.5 installed now. A lot of those files will be copied into the 2.0 installation so it wont be necessary to download all those files from the ED server again.

Someone may come along and add or explain it better, but that's my rough thought on it.

^ And a good rough thought it is.

Nobody knows when the merge is going to happen, even ED themselves. Waiting is not necessary then, unless You want to catch some promo sale.

As for the controls, You can just copy Your "input" folder from 1.5.3 to 2.0.2 and it works right away. It's not recommended method (as the future updates for 2.0.x might change/introduce some settings compared to 1.5.3), but I've been doing it since 2.0 release and never had any serious issues.

Is it possible, that the ILS Approach system in 2.0.2 still doesn't work ? Because today I flew with the A-10C and

I wanted to land on Nellis, but the approach ILS System didn't work correctly !

When 1.5 and 2.0 merge question?

When is 1.5 and 2.0 due to merge and will I have to do all my controls again when they do? That controls is the main question, because it drives me nuts having to keep setting them up for every Module I have. Thanks!

You can copy the Profiles over to the merged 2.5 Version AFAIK.

Newb question that I have been unsuccessful at finding an answer to.

Can I use 2.0 for things that say they require 1.5?

Like (for example) the A-10C Basic Flight Training Campaign, says it requires DCS World 1.5.

Will it run under DCSW 2.0, or do I have to also DL 1.5 to use it?

Depends.

All the modules work in both versions. For example the A-10C can be flown in the Nevada map as well as in the old Caucasus map.

Modules currently under development may be released for one version first, and some time later for the other version. For example, the Sa-342M Gazelle was released in the 2.0 OpenAlpha a week ago, and was only released in 1.5 OpenBeta earlier today, and will probably be released in 1.5 Release version a week from now (but don't quote me on that latter statement, it's just my assumption).

On the other hand, missions and campaigns are specific to the terrain/theater, and thus also specific to 1.5 (Caucasus) or 2.0 (Nevada) currently. A mission designer can't just copy a mission to another theater, adjust a few waypoint locations and be done with it.

The Basic Flight Training campaign you mentioned is specifically designed for the Caucasus map, and so is currently limited to DCS 1.5.

At some point in the future, 1.5 and 2.0 will be merged into 2.5, where both maps will be available within the same version of DCS, and all content that currently requires either version should be compatible, but it's also possible that mission/campaign authors might have to adjust some things.

In any case, in order to fly the Basic Flight Training Campaign, you definitely need to have 1.5 installed.

Thank you Yurgon!

I appreciate the detailed information, and completely understand the situation now.

The real question is: What are the weather settings for the mission you flew? ;)

I just flew a training mission in Nevada with some thick and low clouds and they looked pretty great.

But if the mission you fly doesn't set any weather, then there are no clouds. :smartass:

Copy buddy!!

U are right! Where can I play with weather in editor?

In the ME, select the Cloud-icon on the left side, and then set wind direction, cloud base etcetera to your liking on the right hand side.

Or, if you're more adventurous, try the "Dynamic" weather. ;)

I have a request for ED regarding the newsletter. Would it be possible to give us a small/large update on the current status of the new MiG-29 model?

It has been 5 months since the last news :(

There seems to be a lot that hasn't been mentioned lately in recent month. The merge to make 2.5 and work on ground radar to pave the way for other modules are at the top of my list. I'm in no way trying to be critical because I know there are a ton of things the ED staff are trying to bring forward and it just takes time for quality at this level.

Mig-29 on hold to finish Spitfire from ED. So keep waiting cause Su-33 PFM first.

Maybe I missed something, but I thought the PFM for the Su-33 was already done? :dunno:

Let me go check Silver Dragons roadmap...

EDIT: I stand corrected. From the roadmap...

+ Su-33 (FC3 Level Released) (SFM/SSM)

- PFM Flight Model (in progress)

Hi guys.

-I today checked my performance on 1.5 with msi afterburner. I know that certain of my hardware is not top notch...GPU K2200M 2GB VRAM, CPU 4710MQ 16GB RAM. Setting medium in general= texture medium, ground tex = high, shadows = medium, 4 x msaa, cockpit tex = 512, visibility range = medium etc. What is strange is that my vram usage when I log in and play first flight = +/- 75%. When I play a second flight = 90% plus even 100%. However if I log out and log in again goes back to 75%. (Play exactly same over.) Does anybody know why this would be.

-Another question is DCS 2 the more optimised graphics version.

Much appreciated.

F14 by choice, F18 by mandate.

Peace the old fashioned way.

For FC3:

-Su33 PFM is still being developed.

-Mig-29 External Still being developed.

-MiG-29 PFM still being developed.

Whether or not Standalone Su33/MiG29 modules are planned or not I dunno, I would assume so, since the others all got their own modules when they got their 6DoF Pits, External Model and PFM.

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

In my question I was not referring to the Profesional Flight Model but simply to the external model with seemed pretty much completed back in January judging by the screenshots Wags posted back in januari. PFM wise I have no problem waiting simply thought the external model would be updated way before.

Keep us updated please now and then that's all :)

It's probably going to be a big update, so we'll have to wait and see.

My guess is that 1.5 will receive an automatic update to 2.5.

I hope there'll be an option to merge 2.0 into 2.5 so that the big Nevada map doesn't need to exist twice during the update - my current SSD is pretty full and there's no way I could have two copies of the NTTR map at the same time.

Anyway, we'll only know for sure once it happens, or when someone from ED talks about it in one of the official update threads.

However I'm pretty sure we can delete 2.0 OpenAlpha as soon as the upgrade to 2.5 has taken place.
