Hi,

I haven't been active on these forums and with the sim for a good few months because I was waiting for the improved 2.0. Seeing that the 1.5 update was released I cant wait to get back into it but when I launch the autoupdater it only updates to the latest 1.2.16 version. So how do I get all the wonders that is 1.5?

1.5 Update isn't released just yet unless I've missed something, it is in last tests, which, if goes good, will be followed by release to Open Beta branch of the sim.

To get it when it gets released, you can download the Open Beta client here :

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/

Or, you can use DCS updater exe with update and openbeta arguments.

How to get 1.5 Open Beta?

Since this will be a open beta release, how will we get access to it? I presume the updater won't automatically update since presumably not everyone wants to download a beta version? Will we have to manually download and install? And reinstall each module? Or ?

There's a separate installer for open beta installs.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

OK, but I am still confused and I am sure others are too. So I have to have a completely separate install for 1.5? Where do I find that? And will it see and use my already installed modules?

Download, run http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/

It copies the game to another folder. If/when there are any beta releases available it will update to them.

It makes a <User>/Saved Games/DCS.openbeta for configs next to the DCS folder.

You may have to use the module manager in the second copy to reinstall them in the other copy, but you won't have to reactivate them.

you'll have separate open beta icons to launch the game/repair/update.

It's not hard; give it a try. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

Go to DCS and install the Beta version. That one will update when 1.5 is released. Well, it will update when you click on it.

No. You'll use up an activation iirc,...

Incorrect.

Multiple installations and removal of any of those installations, on the same machine, will not affect activations at all.

I currently have about half a dozen versions of DCS World installed, and running, on my flight sim box.

Do Steam users get the 1.5 open beta at the same time as the stand alone users?

For those guys who still dont know how to get the beta:

1. If you use steam you can just join the beta in steam's options for dcs.

2. If you whish a second installation parallel to your release version download the beta installer from updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com

3. If you want to make your existing install a beta install (or vice versa) use the dcs updater to easily and quickly do so. Instructions: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=114030

Thanks a nice summary, but are you certain that if you simply want to update your current version to Beta, you have to go thru all those command prompt steps? Just wondering, because that's what I want to do and I have been going through all the threads just for this info,,,

The only other way convert your current install to the Open Beta, would be to delete your current install and then use the web installer to install the DCS World Open Beta from scratch. Then go into the Module Manager and install your modules. This may take considerably longer since you will need to download every file.

Updating from the Command Window (as outlined in Skate's post) only requires four commands to be typed, including the first one to open the Command Window.

EDIT: Just like skinning a cat, there is more than one way, but eventually you have to slowly peel it off of the head. ;)

Look, there are two concurrent versions or branches of DCS. You can "subscribe" to either one of them and the updater will automatically keep you up to date on the branch you have currently subscribed to.

The problem is that your install is subscribed to the release branch. The tip of that branch (most recent version of that branch) is 1.2.16.

The tip of the openbeta branch points to 1.5. So if you want 1.5 you will have to switch the branch. The command line calls do exactly that.

Extra infos:

Every install can be subscribed to a different branch. Therefore you can have two installs, one subscribed to release and one to openbeta. This is what Method #2 does.
