It's a pity that they haven't considered any JA version.

Maybe D version is too recent but what about a legacy JA 37 / JA 37C?

They have a FM, 3D model and a lot of avionic already there.

Just my 2cents.

An JA 37A and B should be sufficently declassified for them to do it accuratly but other then external looks you would be suprised just how different planes they really are, they share very little in common.

The JA 37 airframe is actually subtly different from the AJ 37 in a few ways. It's about a decimeter longer, it has a different tailfin, the pylons and elevon actuators are different, it has a bunch of data link antennas that the AJ lacks, it has a different drop tank and a conformal gun pod. It also has a different engine with a bit more dry thrust than the AJ 37's.

And as Skjold points out, basically all the avionic systems are different in the JA 37.

Im sure they considered making the JA 37 but decided on the AJS 37 instead and i think it was the right choice

for how DCS is at the moment i think there are many reasons why the AJS 37 bring more to DCS right now then

a JA 37 would have and as such it makes it more interesting and unique for someone not familiar with the viggen already.

For one There are already plenty of 4th gen fighters.

FC-3 Standard we have the F-15, Mig-29 And Su-27.

And For fully modeled we have the Mirage 2000.

But we have no fast attack/strike aircraft in the game.

And no airplane with Anti-ship missiles.

And that is something the AJS 37 Viggen adds.

Capabilities that were not avaliable in the game already.

And that i think gives it an advantage market wise since its more unique and can do things that no other aircraft can do in DCS atm.

While the JA 37 whether it be a JA 37 JA37C or JA 37D is just another fighter in a line of fighters with very little multirole capabilities and as such it would be more limited in customers.

the AJS 37 is just more unique and adds more new capabilities to DCS then a fighter JA 37 would.

And im actually happy they went with the AJS 37 since ive been longing for a Supersonic striker.

I would have been happy about a JA 37 aswell but i honestly prefer the AJS 37 since we have plenty of fighter already with similar capabilities / weapons.

I just hope they release it Before the f18 or they loose all thoose advantages :P

It should most likely be released before the F/A-18.

ED said the AJS 37 was Scheduled for first half of 2016 while the F/A-18 is scheduled for very late 2016 or early 2017 (same ED announcement that mentioned the AJS 37)

Don't get me wrong: AJS is ok. I was thinking somethings like AJS + JA in one package.

We might get a JA 37 in the future but the JA 37 would mean ALOT more work.

Sure many things they would transfer.

But plenty of things would not.

Visual model is different but would not be a huge thing to alter it (thats why many expect a possible AI JA 37 for the Map they will release for the AJS 37)

But cockpit is pretty much completely different the Flight model would be different the radar is completely new (they share nothing) and so on.

So it would be ALOT of work.

And also many of the JA 37s systems are likely still classified even if you dont go for the JA37D.

Since the JA 37 Datalink is the base for the Datalink in use on the Gripen and that is seen as one of the most advanced Datalinks in service so even the Variant used on the earlier 1980s JA 37 variants is probably still classified.

And the Datalink for the JA 37 was a HUGE part in how it was to be used when it comes to Tactics etc so making the JA 37 without its datalink would be kinda like making a SU-27 or Mig-29 without helmet mounted sights.

Yea its the Splinter camo as used on the Viggen

Primary Paintscheme of the AJ and AJS 37 from the mid 70s onward

(The JA 37s had primarily a Grey Air Superiority paint scheme but with many retaining the splinter camo to make it harder for enemies to ID between a fighter or Striker)

And its the Paint Scheme the Viggen is most known for.

Since we're at the camo scheme and anxious about news/release etc., how about a Flygvapnet (Swedish Air Force) recruitment poster from 1978?

:)

There is only one word that comes to mind when I see how they handle the helmet covers - "Ludermässigt" (as my old drill sergeant would have put it...). Properly done it should look something like this:

I also notice my fav weapon ever - The trusted M/45. Probably the best sub-machine gun ever constructed. Don't know how many 1000 rounds I have fired with it. Great piece of kit!

What helmets?

I did not see any helmets or men on that earlier foto :detective_2:

All i saw was a dog apparently resting between two plants and some discarded weapons and with a Viggen in the backround.

hmm but on further analysis of the picture i think i can see atleast one ground crew member working on the viggen.

Is it his helmet you are referring to perhaps?

Gotta love it's simplicity! I got the Shooting Medal on the m45. Loved it! :-)
