runny Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I removed 1.2 to make space, never did DL 1.5. I just have a 125GB SSD that has ArmA and DCS on it. It's right full now so I'll have to trim down the arma mods to fit more DCS modules and maps on it.
Azrayen Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 You understood well. Look at the schematics: with no desire to try "things that have not yet finished", stick to the (green) release branch ; it's already what you do ;) Disclaimer: not official and what is after the "TODAY" mark is my own personal interpretation. ++ Az'
dburne Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Well also keep in mind this time we are going to be going to a complete new engine with Edge, so things could maybe be a little different than in previous stable releases. From Wags official announcement: Once the Nevada map exits the Alpha stage, it and DCS World 2.0 will be merged into the stable, release version of DCS World or the Open Beta (TBD). Pure speculation on my part, but I would take that to mean either the 1.2 release version will get updated to 2.0, or maybe even the 1.5 OB version might get updated to 2.0 release... In the end I don't guess it makes too much difference, other than if one deletes a version it may preclude the updater from transferring some files rather than having to download, might just increase the download time. danilop Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Or, during all this major update project, we could have public 1.2 release with closed alpha and beta testing going on in the background. ED, we really don't need algorithmic flowcharts and diagrams to understand how to update game, do we?
Devrim Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I deleted v1.2.x because 1) v1.5 is working well, and 2) no enough space in my (128GB) SSD drive (with DCS 2). Just did some KA-50 combat mission flying in 1.5, and while I enjoy it I must say after seeing the terrain in Nevada it just does not look the same anymore. Really looking forward to newer maps with more realistic combat areas, like Straight of Hormuz. QuiGon Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 Either 1.2 or 1.5 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=146968 So the alpha branch will be dropped then? That means if you want future versions that include both maps you either need the release branch (currently 1.2) or the beta branch (currently 1.5)? The alpha branch (currently 2.0) won't get both maps? The alpha branch (currently 2.0) won't get both maps? That is the way I read it from the announcement. I would think once it gets to the stable release stage, it would be 1.2 that gets that update, but with Edge being an entire new engine I could see it being 1.5 that gets updated as well. I am sure anything is subject to change. I myself have all three versions installed as I have the room for them. Azrayen Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 AFAIK there is no official word on the future of open beta and open alpha branches. If you have to plan now, what's logical is: - the release branch will be updated; otherwise ED would force all user to make a new installation => this is not anymore the way they do things since the auto-updater got there in 1.2.1 - the test branches (open beta, open alpha) may or may be not be updated; I won't try to guess, many factors at play, and we don't know all of them. ++ Az'

In other words, the 1.2 stable version is the only version going forward that will be updated to ultimately 2.0 "stable". Correct? , [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 3rd Mar Div RVN '66-'67

I've said this before so will say it again. There will no doubt be a standalone 2.0 installer. ED cant expect everyone installing it to have come to DCS via 1.2. Some will have it as their first taste of DCS, to to expect new users to download and install 1.2 then have to download updates and install them to convert it to 2.0 isnt logical at all.
