Hi !

Here it is in the title : How can I guide others GBUs to a target using my TGP and Laser designation in A10C ?

First, is it simply possible ?

Then, do the bombs have to be set on the same laser code than my TGP (I suppose it have to be), and how to set the code on other planes ? Or do I have to set my laser to the code of their bombs ? (in that case, how to know which code is used on other planes bombs ?)

As this is an actual used strategy in many air forces in the world, me and my friends would like to do the same !

Thanks in advance for your answers !

The bombs laser code has to match the laser code of the illuminating platform.

You can set your GBUs laser code via inventory page of the DSMS IIRC - the code of you laser can be set on the TGP.

And yes you need to know the codes - default is 1688.

1.) Agree with buddy on lasing code (default is 1688 for all bombs and all TGPs on all aircraft)

2.) Lasing party sets code in the TGP config via the scratchpad

3.) Bombing party sets agreed code for the selected LGB in the corresponding weapons profile

4.) Lase!

5.) Pickle!

6.) Profit!

As far as I know, it's possible. You guys just have to agree on the laser code. The one dropping the bomb will enter the laser code through the weapons profile or inventory (one of those, I don't remember) and the person lasing has to set laser code in the TGP controls.

It's very important to coordinate when to turn the laser on. If your buddy just lases the entire time while you pickle from 20,000 ft, your bomb is going to fall short. I always tell my buddy when to start lasing, and that is always at 10 to 12 seconds time to impact.

Like it has already been said, it is very much possible to do so.

So, just a little remark from my side: After the next update it will also be possible to use the A-10C to lase targets for the Mirage 2000C which can drop LGBs but cant guide them. Just in case you or your friends fly the Mirage as well ;)

At least when dropping your own bomb it doesn't actually start guiding on the laser until 15s from impact, I don't imagine buddy lasing changing that.

Yep the main reason I was asking is concerning guiding for 2000Cs, i forgot to write it in the subject post.

So we'll have to wait the next update in that case ^^

Well Ok, but in that case, how do you activate manually the lasing of the TGP, because it seems to be binded with the launch of my bombs ... Do the TGP know that a bomb from a friend nearby is dropped ? Is there a button or sequence to activate the laser manually without dropping a bomb my self ?

manual says 8s for best accuracy

i've used 8-12s successfully

either way, lase time has to be manually coordinated

I use 20 sec manually set on profile before releasing the bombs, and it remains greatly accurate ^^ (anyway it seems the bomb is aiming starting from 15 sec before impact)

The time you can lase the target corresponds in some way to the weapon's glide path. If you illuminate too early the weapon will steer too early and thus bleed off too much energy = falls short :(

I think that is how it is explained somewhere in a PDF... makes sense

When dropping from an A-10C, you can set the TGP to auto-lase. With buddy-lasing, this option isn't available, since the TGP has no way to know when to start and stop lasing in this case.

To lase manually, the A-10C pilot simply needs to depress the HOTAS pinky button (Controls -> HOTAS -> HOTAS Nosewheel Steering Button) and make sure that an "L" keeps flashing in the TGP. There are, obviously, prerequisites, and the manual does a fine job of explaining them and the basic procedure in detail.

As for the M-2000C, I don't know yet how to get the weapon's flight time. I guess it won't be too different than when it's dropped from an A-10, so unless the M-2000C provides the estimated time of flight for the GBU-12, I'm sure someone will post a table with rough estimates for various altitudes, if such a table hasn't already been posted. :)

Cool, I didn't know that. Even with that feature, however, I do know from experience that my bombs fall short if I begin lasing too early. And on my first buddy lasing attempt I made the same mistake (as the designator) and my wingman's GBU-12 missed. We didn't see where it landed as it was night and I was heads down watching for weapons effect through the TGP. We had his bomb's code matching my TGP laser, and my TGP was set for Laser, not Pointer or Both. It was definitely the timing. :(

Or your wingman could've employed off the wrong SPI, i.e. a steerpoint vs TGP.
