You only have a week to wait for Amazon stock, though.

+1 on the tracking - mine has been great. There are sometimes when it goes a little wonky (only with Touch - headset tracking is flawless) but I automatically move my hand a little and it usually kicks straight back in.

If you’re in the UK, Argos is where it’s at. I luckily found one in Glasgow yesterday available to collect straight away or a few other available to collect the following day. I couldn’t wait so drove the 25 miles to go and pick it up (even though I work 5 minutes away and could have picked it up today!). Check their website out and put your postcode in.

Sadly showing out of stock everywhere now. Not an issue, I’m sure it will turn up again soon. Thanks for the advice

My Rift S came yesterday and I am fairly disappointed. It seems the FOV is slightly smaller compared to the CV1 and most importantly the chromatic aberration and distortions towards the edges is absolutely horrible. There is only a very small sweet spot in the dead center of the lense which is sharp enough, but a virtual inch (about 2 cm) to the left, right, up or down of that spot the image gets distorted. So I basically cannot read text without staring just at this sweet spot and turning my head all the time. Neither can I read all the HUD symbology in the A-!0C without moving the head nor can I read the left engine RPM gauge when directly pointing my head at the right engine RPM gauge. At the edge of the FOV there is just a blurry mess. Mostly blue.

Im not sure if my Rift S is faulty or if this is normal. I will give it back and try another one. If that one has the same problem, I stick with the CV1.

Edit: I noticed there is a Rift S thread .... posting my comment there .... now. Don't reply to this post here pls :)

Yes - same issues I had and same conclusion as Svsmokey. Though for me, the picture I could see was very clear, with a large sweetspot - even stuff well away from the centre was clear, but the FoV and edges of view were dismal.

Your system will smoke mine , and i generally maintain 45fps very low over Caucasus , including cities , in a Hornet .

My DCS settings as follows :

Water , high

Civil traffic low

Cockpit shadows low

View distance medium

Msaa x2

Terrain shadows flat

Trees 62%

Pd 1.0

All other settings off or lowest possible

You can trade the terrain shadows for increased pd if you wish , and you should be able to run some settings a little higher with that cpu .

You have to tinker with the DCS settings options,

Also, the new NVidia drivers have "DSR factors" in the Global settings. I fly MP air battles, I cannot have 'pretty VR' I need a fast VR. "DSR smoothness" is the trade off between pretty and slow and an 'aliased' image, mine is set to 10%.

In DCS, no aliasing, but SSAA x2 (which is DCS superampling)

["MSAA"] = 0,

["SSAA"] = 2,

["SSAO"] = 0,

["anisotropy"] = 0,

in DCS VR options I have

["pixel_density"] = 1.5,

which actually is also related to supersampling. Some settings only have effect on the 2D image, not the actual Rift VR image, figure that out yourself.

You muck around with all these settings,

to start with these days the "DSR smoothness" in the driver is the easiest setting to find/compare quick and dirty results.

To find your personal optimum takes a horribly long time (very).

I get 45fps with a 8600K and GTX 1080, but this can drop down to your 22 fps sometimes in heavy MP settings.

Your major criteria is total image smoothness of any head movement, not how pretty or ugly it looks. Changing certain settings higher or lower, do not make any sense with any outcome in the result, which is why it can take so long.

According to Wags , SSAA has no effect in VR . Something about pre-vs-post processing .

I'm getting a lot of ghosting when in fly-by camera and in the Tomcat mirrors. Also, looking out to the sides 3/9, there's a lot of double vision. I've tried different MSAA settings, but it still happens even on MSAA 0. However, not as much as MSAA 2 or 4. My PD is 1.5 and I'm using the 419.35 nvidia drivers. I've also used the 430.64 drivers. Is anyone else having ghosting issues?

What are your frame rates like? Hit right CNTRL and Pause, then if they're not at 45 FPS your ASW is off.i did a totally clean install yesterday and noticed judder which I've NEVER had in the Rift. I've had it lag but not judder. When I looked at my FPS they were spiking all over from 45-90. I immediately downloaded Oculus Tray Tool and made a profile for DCS to lock in 45 FPS for DCS and it fixed it. It's possible I set something in the nvidia card settings that caused this, or the new update is not letting ASW work. Since I did that, the cockpit in the 18 looks the best I've seen it with my normal setting of 1.8, no FSAA, shadows flat, terrain shadows flat, AF at 16X and everything but civilian traffic at high.

Hello guys, just picked up an Oculus rift myself and new to the VR party.

So far, I have delted the Metashaders folder and FXO to try force new ones. Graphics wise I have changed game resolution down to 1080p from 1440p and picked the VR preset in graphics as I though it would be low enough to get a benchmark to tweak.

Joined friends server with little AI in not too much, but the game just keeps crashing before the startup has even finished

Specs are

AMD 2600X

16GB 2666MHz

GTX980Ti

Is DCS that bad for VR? I seem to get good performance on ACC with decent graphics too

Any help would be massively appreciated

Did you switch VR "ON" in the options right most tab

["enable"] = true,

Your Oculus Home needs to be running

or

Rename/backup/delete your \Saved Games\DCS <version>\

folder. You want a backup or KEEP if there are clever bindings in your

"..:\Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input"

DCS will build a a new one, in particular the

"..:\Saved Games\DCS\Config\options.lua"

file

Then switch the 'enable VR' on in the VR tab and see what happens.

After that you need a lot of tweaking to get the vision right,

the latest Nvidia driver in the 3D default games settings has 2 options now, the SS 2x 2.25x 3x 4x

and a 'sharpness slider'

that's the easiest now to fine tune in combination with the DCS options.

We both run almost identical specs so power isn't the issue. I also have a Pimax 5K+ I've been trying to get to run well but so far it's unusable. In trying to find different solutions for Pimax I changed my Nvidia driver back to 425.31 but when it didn't help I went back to the CV1. When I did, the CV1 stuttered badly with that driver. So I changed back to the newest 430.8x and it was smooth again. That was until I overclocked the graphics card and tried to run DCS. I immediately had ghosting in the Rift, both in the Oculus Home environment and DCS. If I didn't fire up DCS, the overclock didn't effect the Rift, only when I tried to start DCS did the ghosting start happening. Once it started I would have to reboot. Prior to rolling back the driver I didn't have issues overclocking the graphics card and running DCS so it could be a corrupted driver. Anyway, you may try redoing your Nvidia driver. I'm going to look for a program that completely cleans out the current driver and reinstall. Hopefully that fixes it. Otherwise as I said in a previous post, the image clarity in the 18 has been drastically improved. I need only lean forward slightly to make out letters and symbols on the MPCD and see texture detail that I would normally need to VR zoom to see.

Thanks for the tip.

So, I just got home, deleted the saved games folder as suggested. Changed game resolution to my native of 2560x1440. Clicked the VR preset in graphics option, then went over to the VR tab and the enable VR option was already ticked.

I then loaded into Cold and Dark in F-18 at Dubai, and FPS stay at 45fps, until I look to the left and FPS drop to 22.5 - but no crashes, SS in oculus tray tool is set at 0 and I'm not launching steam VR.

Also tried dropping resolution to 1920x1080, cold and dark at Nevada and frames were at 22.5 straight away

Ground clutter at an airfield will reduce your frames by a lot. Once in the air you'll be fine. Turn off the frame counter and go enjoy yourself.
