Now that dynamic lights are working in the sim again; we'll make sure the MiG-21 cockpit lights are included for the next update (or release as hotfix, as planned)

Update 1 for 1.5.4 contains the following MiG-21 fixes:

  • Tuned Engine for Acceleration & Climb performance adherance
  • ASP Reticle offset fix for windy conditions

Could you explain what changed in the engine? Reduced engine power?

So far from what i've seen, the fuel burn is about 2x as much at mach 2.1 than 1.5.3, about 400-450km from take off

where i used to be able to fly from krasnodar to batumi and then to tbilisi at mach 2.1 without landing, now I can barely get to kutasi from krasnodar.

this latest patch did fix acceleration, 1.5.4 before update 1, it was like flying with drop tanks even when there were none...

WoW, such nice update.

I will keep my MIG21 in the hanger.

+1. Got my radio channels, RSBN channels, checklists and everything on my kneeboard. With a transparent kneeboard, I'm unable to fly. I'm slowly losing interest in the MiG... :noexpression: I'm curious how often the F-14 will stay grounded :music_whistling:

it's still enough fuel to fly on 104th, just can't stay out as long....

and how often do people actually climb to 11,000+ meters and go mach 2+ in the mig-21 on 104th? never?

HI Hadwell,

Are you one the VA server usually ?

I flew her today on the VA server but I have never gone above mach 1 that's because I like it low and fast.

I spent a good 4 hours on VA on friday testing out the changes in the mig-21 FM and fuel consumption, etc...

mostly what i've come out of with it all is that dogfights can't be prolonged anymore, with the afterburner on the fuel just disappears, and the mig-21 is a lot more forgiving at high AOA now, it's not just as soon as you hit 34 AOA you don't have wings, but giant airbrakes, and can just shove your stick forwards to make them wings again...

Ever checked the fuel flow of full thrust engine ?

At about 1000m altitude it consumpts about 5,4L per second with afterburner.

From takeoff till 9000m you'll need about 5 minutes in the MF version and burned about 400kg fuel .

In RL the Mig could be flown empty in about 15 mins .

Isn't it normal for an interceptor?

Air superiority fighters are the ones that are suposed to have a higher fuel autonomy.

Will need to try this.

Use the three energies in a dogfight.

From the manual:

AFB1 sea level: 4.2l/s (3.3kg/s)

CSR2 sea level 5.5l/s (4.3kg/s)

AFB M1.06 6.4l/s (5.0kg/s)

CSR M1.06 8.8l/s (6.9kg/s)

They ain't small figures when you consider the internal tank is only 2850l / 2225kg.

Using the 5.0kg/s figure (AB at M1), that's just over 7 minutes until dry.

Haven't flown it for a while, but if you're blatting around in AB during a dogfight, considering the fuel used to take off and get there, you're probably not going in with a mass of fuel.

On average, I take an 800L center tank, I get into a fight around 2500L of fuel, and I always RTB around 1000-1300L of fuel regardless, so it doesn't leave me long to fight...

though keep in mind, this is an average... my last sortie on 104th I downed a SU-25 (i have no idea why he was over the a2a combat area) at 2900L, and didn't run into anyone else till 2000L of fuel, took me down to 800L of fuel before i finished him off(an SU-27)... got shot down like 80km from landing, with 200-300L of fuel left...

Our squadron testing, per 1.5.3. They are rounded +/-25L for easy memorization. Difference between afterburner and regular is already obvious.

We'll give a check on new version.

Fuel Consumption w/ AA Combat Load @2000m :

● Afterburner : 350L/min

● 95% RPM : 100L/min

Fuel Consumption w/ AA Combat Load @8000m :

● Afterburner : 200L /min

● 95% RPM : 50L/min

I have cleaned this thread from unconstructive comments and quite frankly- childishly disappointing comments.

Good, those comments were very much "oh, woe is me!" and OTT. The Mig-21 does have a couple of problems at the moment, but it's still a cracking module and it is still being actively worked on to fix the issues.

BTW, is it me or are the landings a bit tricky again, like they used to be? biggrin.gif

Also, landings are slightly trickier again. :) Though I'm quickly getting used to it. For me, its just that the controls are a bit less precise and responsive than before (during landing speeds), the nose also wanders more (which I like).

I second this. My last landing the nose was pitching and banking by itself resulting in crash. This was my last time I use the Mig.
