That will always be the disadvantage of single engine fighter aircraft. Lethal, nimble, but they can taken down by a single bird... Hmm, maybe that's an idea--train flocks of pigeons to swarm over your enemy's airbase to destroy their engines.

Pigeons with head scarfs and semtex belts would be nicer, plus do some extra damage on the occasional bird eradicator. Pigeons with freakin "laser"beams on their heads are cool too, I guess.

Not that a two engine aircraft is of any use with one engine in flames. Ctrl+EEE goes for them too if the fire isn't retarding.

Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

I coulda evade that bird and get on her six.

Evading is for cowards, they should've fired a missile to take it out :D

glad the pilots are ok.

Or there could be snakes trained and placed on planes, and released simultaneously to make a "WE GOT MFKIN' SNAKES ON THE PLANES!" effect.

Joking, glad the pilots did it :)

And speaking of Sammy Jackson, heres a list of other perrogatives that should have been said here...although not really relevant.

Sometime I wonder if I could have a hit -- just one hit -- of whatever powerful mind-altering muscle-destabilizing spatially-perverting narcotic this guy must be on!

White Wodow, is what I'm on now. But seriousely, I replied to that post saying about buying pigeons in stead of planes, I replied with a Counter Strike inspired reply :D.

So I see it's funny, but it was meant to be. Not as something off topic though.

We will study these pigeons in-depth since they hold the promise of finding the ultimate F-22 killer weapon!!!!! :D

What do you think of "F-22 downed by a goose ... that didn't see it coming!"

They ejected over the runway to get easely back home (kidding) but jet flew close to control tower so pilot made a dangerous situation despite low altitude. Panic?

Dutch airforce headquarter needs to think about sound system instalation with recorded eagle's or better falcon's scream sample. It works for civilian traffic safety on the airports.

Easy there Cap'n!

From the write up it seems like the pair were flying the SFO profile.

This is how you stay current on Flame Out procs. Lead is simulating

the flame out while the wing is making sure there is no cheating.

After you fly him down you clean it up, put power on the jet and go

around for the tight 1 mile final. Vipers don't touch and go. The gear

is not made for that.

But looking at the pics the motor looked as if it let go with a lot of debris

out the back. So if it stopped wind milling there was not power for hydro.

So the check list is pretty clear after that.. That’s not panic that falling

back on your training!

Looking at pics of the jet at rest... it looks as if it stayed on a glide all the

way down...

My mission is to fly, fight, and win. o-:|:-o What I do is sometimes get a tin of soup, heat it up, poach an egg in it, serve that with a pork pie sausage roll.

I was thinking the same thing. There must of been JUST enough pressure in the accumulators for the FCS to keep it flying somewhat straight.

I wonder if it could of been salvaged if that happened over a flat piece of earth, with no trees or misplaced buildings?

That "debris" you see are parts of the rocket nozzle and rocket charge, the engine could be windmilling just fine. Oh, you can even see the headrests coming down on their cute parachutes. Actually, you still can see the engine working to some extent, it still has an exhaust plume, but the sinkrate looks quite high. You can see where they ejected, and you can see this pic is taken 0.5-1 seconds later (after the front seater ejected), so the thing was dropping like a stone, and still had some speed in it

I think FCS gets an auto destruct after eject.

FCS auto destruct? I thought it only applied to mission maps etc?

On the Su-33, the FCS will keep the plane level, no matter how low the speed is, as seen on the crap quality cable break ejection vid.

Sorry to go off topic by getting back on topic...But

Wasn't it extremely irresponsible for the pilots to bring the aircraft over the airbase, and eject right OVER it? I mean the plane continued on and almost hit the control tower! It then went on, and from the pictures, crashed right in the front lawn of someone's house!

Shouldn't they have brought the plane away towards a field, I'm sure they have plenty in the Netherlands, and ejected over that?

The F-16B (trainer) was doing a touch-and-go. The bird hit the engine on touch down. At that time the engine is almost set to idle which is why the bird caused so much damaged. If this happened in normal flight it's highly likely that the pilot could land the aircraft safely.

There are (almost) no houses in the direction the jet was flying, just farmland. If it was coming from the oposite direction it would be a much more dangerous situation since it would overfly houses and primairy roads.

The jet smashed on the airbase and slided over a taxi lane and piece of grass to land into a HAS wall.
