I can only imagine such port transits must really be very significant photo ops for the military - regardless of the nation/alliance. My guess is that even those are the shiniest planes int he hangar with a fresh coat of red paint on the ladders.

It is really a striking sight indeed.

Nice shots.

No mig29 on deck? i thought they replaced su-33?

Not entirely. The Su-33 were upgraded with new bombing computers (SVP-24, primarily used in the Su-24M) that allow them to drop dumb bombs precisley. It calculates the optimal point for bomb release based on the position of the aircraft and target, wind speed and direction, and other variables. This convertes the Su-33 to an efficent and true multirole platform. But there should also be some MiG-29K embarked.

Just for clarification, the 5th pic in post #9 is the British destroyer HMS Duncan D37. It was there just keeping an eye on things.

Correct its in one of the images

True :), but at that angle you could easily overlook it as a Helix. The angle was better (but the image quality poorer) in the Guardian video:

Surprised it didn't break down...

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

So the tunguska can be used on the ship as tripple A ?

it wasn't meant literally but the kashtan has the same weapons layout as a tunguska: 2*30mm + 8*9m311. while the tunguska is considered aaa, with regard to the ranges involved in a naval environment the kashtan is "relegated" to ciws for intercepting things that get past their sa-300f/sa-3/etc.
