On negative posts, people/Dev bashing and general poor behavior.

As I sit here this morning, enjoying a pleasant flight around Vegas in the Bell 47, Grinning from ear to ear!, I decided to post my feelings on this touchy subject.

I am happy with the new Forum rules and see enforcement is quite swift.

Thank you!

I decided a year ago, when turning 60, to stop this in my own behavior.

I would find myself thinking thoughts that do not belong in my life.

These thoughts were just eating away at my enjoyment of life.

I think they damage your "Chi" or karma.

So I decided to banish them!

Was it easy?

MO!

Do I still feel them creeping around trying to influence me!

Yes!

But I stop them before the poison takes hold.

I have decided that fun, Love and Family/friends are the number one priorities.

Not necessarily in that order!

I have lost some dear friends in recent months and that also make this decision all the easier.

Life is short!

Do not waste it on poison thoughts and feelings.

Your joy will know no bounds without them!

So thank you to all the wonderful Human beings you populate these forums and are kind, courteous and helpful!

It is a pleasure to meet you!

I totally agree with your realisation that negative thoughts are most damaging to the ego that creates them.

I fully agree, particularly about developer's bashing ... I get so much enjoyment out of DCS that even modules that havent yet been fully developed, like the Hawk, deserve our patience and rather than bashing the dev I prefer to give encouragement, as I'd rather see the module finished than see the developer quit and fold its business.

Best rant ever, and I totally agree.

Negative thoughts are some mean bastards, even if its just 2% of the time, and the remaining 98% is positive, the 2% can and easily will take over, if you let them.

I may have miss-spoke.

The forum rules are now more vigorously and quickly enforced.

A very good change!

We are not subjected to the bull-poop!

As a Christian I don't believe it is chi or karma.

But God definitely put some cold, hard lines between good and evil.

The Proverbs have a lot to say about evil thoughts eating someone up from the inside.

And ya the rules are good.

History has proven that civilizations, businesses, or even families that don't take basic rules of right and wrong seriously don't exactly last long.

So yeah....

It's never constructive to constantly be negative.

But, it's always good to remember that criticism is needed.

So, you have to find a balance. It's no more helpful to constantly champion ED as it is to constantly berate. After all, they're big boys over there!

I hear some of them can even buy liquor! :D

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

I agree with the OP. I think we should all remain careful of not falling into sterile negative talk. The best way is to separate ourselves from the emotional aspect of the discussion and try to remain objective.

whining is a form of love...

they whine to make the thing better.

which shows they care.

its when they stop whining and the forum goes quiet.

that's the point when you panic.

when love has turned to indifference..

me i love whining.. its a great sign.. its so positive :)

they are emotionally involved and want to make it better.. and are even putting energy into it..

so change your view on complaining... its not negative, it just looks that way.

its way more positive than indifference.

and nothing like hate.

its bitching,

mostly its letting off steam. and its definitely not something to take to heart.. but is something you should listen too.. carefully.

have a monthly best bitching post competition and turn it into the entertainment it is... tiger moms would be a good name...

+1

The best entry in the thread...

While the negativity for negativity's sake is both tiresome and destructive, positivity for its own sake is at least as harmful and shortsighted.

Yes, there are many who have grown bitter for one reason or another, or are just plain perfectionists that find their joy in life in picking the good apart. Yes they may blow things out of proportion, or even make issues out of non-issues.

However, there are just as many who would pitch their lances towards any perceived slighting on their favorite sim/aircraft/dev etc, and charge with great prejudice. Often icluding times where there is no malice at all from the other party.

Sometimes this detractors vs white-knights air gets tiresome to read in the forum, and it is not a single one of the sides to blame in this situation.

Fact is, there is a lot to criticize here and there, and while many people go just pure naysaying route for its own sake, just as many seem to think counteracting this by doing the polar opposite is a good idea. Well, it is not :). Saying that everything is awesome, or taking an iron fist approach to some moderation issues is a great way to go, isn't any more a helpful practice than throwing a tantrum over the tiniest issues.
